We want to announce that the 2009 NPC Heartland Natural Classic scheduled for April 25, 2009 has been canceled.
We want to thank everyone who was involved with our 2008 show as a show staff member, competitor, or audience member. We are sorry for those who have been preparing for, or looking forward to attending the 2009 event, but encourage you to continue your quest to compete in and support natural competitions. You may want to consider competing in or attending the Mr/Ms Minnesota Natural Bodybuilding, Figure, and Xtreme Fit Championships which will be held on May 16, 2009.
While promoting the show was a personal satisfying experience we also found we could not continue with the conflicts we had with Christine Bongiovanni, the Minnesota District NPC chairperson. We have also realized the sport of bodybuilding had become an interference in our family life and wish to step away and refocus our time, energy, and priorities.
Sincerely,
Randy and Julie Leppala

I'll be at the Ms/Mr Minnesota Randy. I hope to see you at the show since you opened the gate to bodybuilding for me. I'm going to bring something fun with what you taught me about posing.
Take Care.

I will not be at the show.... I am taking time away from bodybuilding and that includes promoting, judging, helping people with posing and nutrition, and also attending any shows in the future. While I immersed myself into the sport I also lost touch of the time it took away from my family and my faith. Bodybuilding can be a very selfish sport and one must learn to create a balance in your life.
And while promoting the show was a long time dream of mine it was also not worth the headaches of dealing with the NPC chairperson and the politics and petty arguments that arise in the sport. Good ridance to all of that.

It sounds like you need a break. Even though you want to get away from the sport I hope you dont stop following a healthy lifestyle - that afterall is what this sport should be all about anyways - the rest is just socializing....

sorry to hear that Randy, glad that you gave all the competitors ample notice however, nothing is worse than being 2 weeks out and finding out a show was canceled

I attended this show last year and was VERY impressed! It did not seem like the "1st annual" show, it seemed more like the "10th annual". A good friend of my competed in this show, but has relocated out of Minnesota, so I guess his heart won't be too broken.
Thanks for the information.

I just wanted to thank you opening my eye's to the local shows around Minnesota. I've been contemplating the whole process for quite some time but your direction really got me thinking "Hey, I could do this!" Even though I won't be attending the Heartland now, I'm on the right path, so thankyou! Hope things go well with you and yours. Maybe I'll still get to meet you at some future show... Take care!

I just wanted to add that the 2008 Heartland Classic was by far the best show I have been to. Bongiovanni should take notes.
