I recently measured my thighs at 23" and was shocked. I train five days a week doing legs one day of that week. My workout is supplemented by 1 hour of cardio in the morning along with my pm (muscle) workout. Legs consist of (4 sets of 15) leg extensions, hamstring curls, squats (I squat 215 for 10), isolated glute exercises, and the occasional hack-squat and leg-press. I eat a low fat, somewhat high protein diet( 100-150g/day). I have been training with dedication for only eight months and fear that my legs are just too big for my taste. I love being strong and having the muscle; however, at 5'1 I don't enjoy having "tree trunks." Any suggestions?

Cut the leg work down and cut the reps down to 4 - 6.

I would stick with squats + hamstring/glute machine + calf work then call it a day.

Or, if you want to lose muscle, just don't use it.

If your atavar is you, you don't have tree trunk legs. We are constantly fooled by the media and computer enhancement to think that the ideal legs are longer and thinner than they really are. In real life, legs should be in proportion to your hips or they look like knitting needles with a potato on top.

Don't forget that when you look at your legs, your perspective is playing tricks on you. If you saw the exact same legs on a different woman, your perspective would be different and they'll almost certainly look fine.

I look at my thighs and they seem huge. But my brutally frank daughter assures me that I have skinny legs and a huge bum.

How did you feel before you measured them? Don't let a simple number fool you into thinking you need to change. Work for what you want to look like - not a specific number.

mine are around that too. No biggie, I'm happy as long as I can wear at least a few pair of size 4 pants!

Stop training your legs and do straight cardio. Also reduce your protein intake to .8/lb of body weight. You will lose muscle.

Honestly, I looked at your pics...and your thighs are definately NOT tree trunks...there beautiful and strong...they really look wonderful. However, it IS important that you like what YOU see..so hope this small piece of advice helps you.:)

This is true, you look good if that is you. Also, why is your avatar photoshopped to look like your in a bar?

My thighs are about 24 and I think they were even bigger until I stopped working my legs for a few weeks to try to lose some of the bulk! My boyfriend is upset because we measured the same and his legs are huge and beautiful! Hahaha

It's a real pain in the ass to try to fit into a pair of jeans unless I buy size eights! Anyway, I'm doing higher reps and less weight now.

If the avatar is you, I have no idea why you would want smaller legs. They look perfect and a lot of girls on this site would want them even bigger (so would the guys, if you'd post progress pics). Anyway, you are training your legs like crazy so turn that down if you want smaller legs.

Your man also says that he is too small to pose for a picture but he looks like a cross between a nightclub bouncer and a grizzly bear. Too big, too small, can't anybody be happy, hmmm.

DO NOT STOP TRAINING LEGS....first and foremost...

For a girl with an overpowering lower body - my thighs can measure 23 and I work to get them to 21 - here's what I suggest (I am presuming that your thighs are not totally muscle lololol)

Drop the isolated exercises for a bit and build a program around dealifts (straight leg), squats (but no PB here, just lower the weight and up the reps), step ups, lunges lunges lunges lunges and throw in some fun 'plyo' (arguable I know) of jump lunges, jump squats, box jumps etc.

I run each morning and find that helps (what cardio are you doing)...I also do a wicked leg program 2 times a week (pm me) and toward contest I ensure I use the stepmil at the end of my weights for 15-20mins (or to top up to an hour, whichever is first).

And lastly, you can't trim the fat from your legs if your diet isn't optimal, check this first, it will account for 80% ...patience will be your friend, as a competitor, model and trainer myself I KNOW these are the last to come in, your upper body may be leaner first, but provided your diet is in check and your workouts are consistent, it will happen - just simple math really.

Good luck

Part of it is the squats. That's a big squat for your size.

I agree with couple gals here. Your legs are very hormoniuse with the rest of your bod. If u really want to get rid of volume on your legs, you have to stop put too much emphasis on your legs training. You remember that run kills the butt. So you have to use a lot of cardio. Forget those isolation legs squats, curls, extentions. Only little plyo, jumpyjacks, rockclimber and HIIT with "wind sprints" on the treade mill or outside on open air. Remember also. u have to stop reps just 1 before u feel muscle failure. It lets grow musle dense and elongated, rather than short and bulky.
Another advice: dodn't drink your protein shake rite after training, give some time to "kill" hard earned muscles. Yes, sounds terrible, but sometime we have to work to kill certain muscles. I consume only 50-70 g of protein, low carb/low cal diet. I don't care of fat. Fat, actually, OK. My diet is "CUT diet" almost all of the time, I mean 300cal below my basic metabolic rate (BMR) with load days every 3-5 days. And, Oh my god!!. I miss breakfast. My first meal of the day 12PM -2PM. Please, don't follow completely, I m 58 y/o and need much less cal a day then 22 y/o, but I know for sure that my 30-years practice works well for me. Find your own perfect midium.
