Sorry to hear that, that stinks. Recovery time depends on how bad a dislocation it is. You don't want to rush it though. In high school I played with a guy that rushed back and his shoulder kept popping out of place. Be sure you let it heal and then rebuild the muscleclature surrounding the shoulder, to prevent it from happening again, before you start contact with it.

Is this the first time you dislocated it? There are a few trains of thought here. One and what I did when I dislocated mine, put it in a sling with a pillow under your arm so that the arm is externally rotated 90 degrees, almost as if you are going to shake someones hand. This helps the labrum heal in the correct position. Do this for 2 weeks, including sleeping, only take it out to shower. You will develop a frozen shoulder but this is good. Then, after 2 weeks, start PT and take arm out of sling. Dont let PT stretch your external rotation to that of the other arm so that its nice and tight. The thought here is that your tendons wont let your arm stretch back far enough to redislocate. This is your best chance. I have read a lot of med journals to come to this conclusion....I am not a doctor but I surf and do brazilian jiu jitsu and the shoulder has yet to even come close to coming out a second time. an orthopedic doc told me it was interesting theory and wasnt surprised what i did worked.

The other option, start using the arm right away, like today. stretch it out and use it. YOu can start playing football probably in a week. Your shoulder WILL come out again and easily though.

If you took my option, I would get approval from an orthopedic surgeon or PT. It took me around 4 months before I was lifting again. However, my shoulder is 100%. my dislocation was bad to, i.e., torn labrum.
