Hello all! Welcome to my journal. For those of you who haven't been following my old journal, this is my 2nd journal. I decided this is as a good a time as ever to start a new one, especially since Mrs Muscles pointed out that I had been keeping my old journal for a year!

If you would like to see my old journal, you can access it at:

http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=4083663

Now on to new things. I am starting the BTFFTM diet this week, but w/some very slight variation. I am finding it hard to get the amount of food down in the morning that it suggests for my 1st meal, so I am moving some of those calories to later in the day and I am replacing some of the fat calories (mostly almonds) w/I Can't Believe it's Not Butter Spray, b/c I can't manage to get the food down as easily w/o it.

Basically my calorie intake will be as follows (these are approximations):
Non-Carb Up days:
Protein: 190g=760 calories (50%)
Carbohydrates = 65g=260 calories (17%)
Fat: 55 grams = 495 calories (33%)
Total calories 1515 Non-carbohydrate night

Carb up Days (Haven't worked out the calorie break down yet):
Total calories 1938

I am currently doing a 3 day split, but am due to change soon:
Mon: Back/Bis and Cardio
Tues: Cardio
Wed: Legs
Thurs: Cardio
Fri: Chest/Shoulders/Tris
Sat or Sun: Sometimes Cardio

My most recent stats, as of 7/1 are:

7/1/2008

I worked out in the morning, b/c this is one of the weekends I have my niece, while my nephew is in the hospital undergoing chemo. I leave work early to pick up my niece after school all the way across town and then drive clear across town again, to pick up my daughter @ daycare. I really don't mind. I would do anything to help my brother and SIL out and Abriana loves having my niece around!

I came to that realization this morning! I was so weak on my shoulders, after doing chest...this was the first time that happened to me though. I like to do a 3 day split. When would you suggest they should be worked?

another option to experiment with if this doesn't work out is

Back/Tri
Leg/shoulder
Chest/bi

That is what I started doing right before I hurt my arm (not a lifting injury)

I got hurt on the 2nd day of my split so I never made it through. But that is my plan once I am back in it.

No workouts Sat or Sun! :( I also had a difficult time keeping on track with the BTFFTM diet. I didn't eat bad, but didn't eat enough calories or protein on my carb up day (Sat) and didn't eat enough protein on Sun. This diet just isn't easy when you are running around crazy taking care of kids! :D I'm not worried, b/c I am still seeing results.

I stay on track really well during the week. On the weekends, I either go overboard or don't eat enough. I am doing much better lately, since I've been tracking my calories on the weekends, as well.

I may have to switch up my work out tonight, b/c it looks like the city will be closed tomorrow due to Hurricane Ike. I believe I heard on the radio this morning that the Mayor of Houston is closing the city down, which would mean no work, no gym, no daycare, etc....

I may be doing Chest/shoulders/tris tonight, rathre than cardio. I know, I know Fitty (if you are even around), that you said to do shoulders on leg day, but I forgot to add shoulders into my routine yesterday. I am going to be changing my split soon though.

I have a pedicure appt tomorrow that I need to reschedule for today, since the city will be closed and then I have a hair appt Sat that I pray doesn't get cancelled. I really want to get my hair done.

From your journal I decided to do shoulders with legs and I loved it. So thanks to Fitty if he's around.

LMAO...when I posted that and re-read it, I had to laugh. I am more worried about looking cute, then the hurricane...priorities right?

Graham may not be visiting either, if they cancel the manager's conference. We will find out at 10:30 if it's been cancelled.

It's official...Graham will not be coming. The Manager's conference has been cancelled. :( The office is closing at 3:00 today. We have to clear our desks and make sure that our computers/lap-tops are secure from being damaged, the best we can. I won't be in tomorrow. It is assumed that we will be back Monday. I have to make a run to the grocery store, when I leave here...which I am not looking forward to. I have to get water, food for daughter, rope for trees, batteries, flashlight, etc. Not looking forward to that, b/c the crowds are outrageous right now and I don't do well in crowds.

The traffic is awful too, b/c people are evacuating and I live on an evacuation route, so it's going to take me a good hour or so to get home, which is 15 miles away!

I'll be back on later to update.

Just checking in to give an update. I am off work today preparing for the storm. My dad is coming over to stay with me and my daughter. My brother and SIL have boarded up there home and are staying put, even though they are close to the coast. They are not in a mandatory evacuation zone. The storm is miles off the coast (The eye of the storm is scheduled to make landfall around midnight tonight), but the surge has already reached the top of the see wall, which I believe is 17 feet tall. This is definitely a big one. It turns out that even though my parents and my homes are at least 45 miles from the coast, we wil be getting hit hard as we are on the bad side of the hurrican. Last night they were predicting winds as high as 115 mph even at my home...I believe now they are predicting around 90 mph. Not looking forward to this, but all we can do is wait.

I will keep you updated. I will most likely lose power, but I will update as long as my battery and internet connections lasts. I will be fine today...the worst will be late tonight into tomorrow.

Hello everyone...it's been a while. Things are getting back to normal. this is my first day back at work, since Ike hit and I finally got power in my home. I was also able to finally pick up some perishable food, so I could get back on track w/my diet again. I wasn't able to eat enough the past week, b/c of limited food...so I am happy to be back on track and so happy to finally eat veggies again. There are rare around here, since the storm hit.

I am also excited to announce that I am being sponsored by S.A.N. and am taking their product called Blaze, to assist in fat loss. I will use this journal to track my progress w/Blaze, if I can figure out a way to edit the title to show that I am being sponsered by them. If not, I may need to start a new journal.

I was able to do cardio pretty much everyday since the storm, but b/c the gyms were closed and I had my daughter w/me most the time...I wasn't able to do weights. I am starting a new training plan this week, which will consist of 12-15 rep sets w/30 sec rests in between sets. The goal is to keep my HR elevated throughout the weight training. I will still be doing a 3 day split on M, W, F. I will also continue to do cardio on upper body days and my off days.

I found it strange doing lower weight/higher reps, but definitely felt the burn. I am just so used to doing pyramids and increasing the weight almost to my max. I am excited to see what this type of training will bring as far as results.

I weighed in this morning at around 140...now if I can just break that 140 barrier. It took me forever to break 150...but I believe that is my bodies set point...so it may be why it was so difficult.

I was really excited about doing my cardio outdoors yesterday, since the weather has been so much cooler here recently...well, that was a huge mistake. I get to the park and it's basically condemned (Ok, it's closed...but looked condemned), from Ike. Trees were everywhere and there was a crew working on chopping them up, in order to transport them. These were huge trees too. I decided I would ignore the signs saying the park is closed and run anyway. I must've been attacked by 100 mosquitos while running. When I stopped, I felt like I had hives...I was itching all over. I hurried up and got into my truck, picked up daughter, and went home to take Benadryl...which basically knocked me out. It's hard to take care of a 3 yo when your are drugged up on Benadryl. Man that is some strong stuff...or maybe my body just isn't used to taking meds.

My macros were a bit off yesterday too, b/c the Benadryl messed with my appetite and I didn't eat my last meal which would've increased my protein considerable. I did manage to get 2 tbsp of PB in me, just so my calories would be right. Today is my carb up...so excited about that.

LOL! Theres a machine at my gym that actually has that written on the side of it. Sort of like a donkey kick, but your foot is pushing a platform up that is weighted.

I am trying to preserve the booty...I am disappointed that it has shrunk some. More squats needed! :D

Hi D...How are you? :D
___________

I was not so good this weekend w/tracking my calories...actually I was horrible, b/c I didn't track them at all. Oh well, back at it today and won't do the same next weekend.

Fri. 9/26:

Day 8 on SAN Blaze

Chest, Shoulders, Tris
30 sec rest between sets
DB Bench Press 15x65, 15x60, 2x15x55
Pec Fly Machine 4x15x30
Upright Rows 4x15x20s/15s
Front Raises 4x15x10s
Weighted Bench Dips 15x25, 10x25, 2x10x bodyweight

Total time = 1 hr
HR = ?
Calories burned = 425

It's amazing how much I've had to decrease my weight going from sets of 12,10,8 to sets 4 sets of15. It makes me feel weak, but it burns like crazy and I am sore from it! :D

Sat, 9/28:

Day 9 on SAN Blaze

25 min aerobics DVD

Didn't wear HR monitor, so didn't track calories burned.

Sun, 9/29: Off

Day 10 on SAN Blaze

Excellent detail senorita, the increased soreness is from the build up of lactic acid from doing more reps. More lactic acid, more growth hormone is made to counter the lactic acid, more fat loss. :)

Where you taking more rest time in between sets when doing a pyramid workout(12,10,8)? If so, then that is why you were able to push more weight, recovery(ATP levels) were higher which helps with strength. Again though I think you are doing an excellent workout for your goals which is fat loss primarily.

Long term, the system will provide more organization for the accounting team, reinsurance team, and my boss, the CFO. Short term, implementation will be a challenge for me and my team, but it will get done and successfully. This project will make work a bit more interesting, but not sure if it makes it better. I guess it's a good thing to be busy. I am still contemplating a change of careers though. :D

Thanks. I like that more lactic acid = more growth hormone and fat loss! :D

I have decreased my rest from 1 min to 30 sec (sometimes 45). What a big difference that makes. I am really enjoying this training, b/c I am able to concentrate on the muscle/mind connection really well, since the weight is lighter. It's definitely been a challenge and I was worried that it wouldn't be, b/c of the decreased weight.

Fat 43.8 394 32 %
Carbohydrate 79.0 289 23 %
Protein 133.3 554 45 %

Calories were low for a couple reasons. I wasn't able to get all my meals in before I hit the gym, b/c of time constraints at work...this will most likely be the problem going forward, since my project officially started up this week. I also was so tired that I went to bed earlier. I started my 7 to 4 shift at work (again, due to the project) and am up at 4:30 in the morning now, to make it to work on time. I was in bed last night at 9:30. Since calories were low, my protein was low. I'll try better today, but likely to be the same.

I actually don't have a post workout shake....I know, I know, I've heard that it's crucial to have that post workout shake, but I tend to put on and maintain muscle considerably easy, so don't feel the neccesity to have one post workout. I eat a meal within 30 to 45 mins of working out.

I tried the post workout shake for some time, which was whey and water and I didn't see any added benefits from it. When I stopped there was no difference in my maintenance of muscle.

It's not easy, but thanks! All I can think about right now is sleeping in...oh what I would do to sleep in past 6:00. I don't even get to sleep in on the weekends, b/c my child refuses to sleep past 6:00. bad, bad IronCamp :D you do what works best for you. :) Do you get at least get a pre-workout meal?

why do you feel mixing it with milk is better than with water?

Because popular belief has had us thinking whey + water is enough, there is a study which is a descent one. This study was done on humans, that exercised and used compound movements. It compares,
-48g of carbs(placebo)
-40g of whey + 8g of casein
-40g of whey + 3g BCAA + 5g of glutamine

Out of the three, the whey and casein was the best in increased lean body mass. Milk is composed of 80% casein and 20% whey, so if use 8-12oz of milk you will easily get the 8g of casein used in the study, add a scoop of whey and your good to go.

Here is the study,

The effects of protein and amino acid supplementation on performance and training adaptations during ten weeks of resistance training. J. Strength Cond. Res. 20(3):643-653. 2006.-

Kerksick, C.M., C.J. Rasmussen, S.L. Lancaster, B. Magu, P. Smith, C. Melton, M. Greenwood, A.L. Almada, C.P. Earnest, and R.B. Kreider.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of whey protein supplementation on body composition, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and anaerobic capacity during 10 weeks of resistance training. Thirty-six resistance-trained males (31.0 +/- 8.0 years, 179.1 +/- 8.0 cm, 84.0 +/- 12.9 kg, 17.8 +/- 6.6%) followed a 4 days-per-week split body part resistance training program for 10 weeks. Three groups of supplements were randomly assigned, prior to the beginning of the exercise program, in a double-blind manner to all subjects: 48 g per day (g.d(-1)) carbohydrate placebo (P), 40 g.d(-1) of whey protein + 8 g.d(-1) of casein (WC), or 40 g.d(-1) of whey protein + 3 g.d(-1) branched-chain amino acids + 5 g.d(-1) l-glutamine (WBG). At 0, 5, and 10 weeks, subjects were tested for fasting blood samples, body mass, body composition using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), 1 repetition maximum (1RM) bench and leg press, 80% 1RM maximal repetitions to fatigue for bench press and leg press, and 30-second Wingate anaerobic capacity tests. No changes (p > 0.05) were noted in all groups for energy intake, training volume, blood parameters, and anaerobic capacity. WC experienced the greatest increases in DEXA lean mass (P = 0.0 +/- 0.9; WC = 1.9 +/- 0.6; WBG = -0.1 +/- 0.3 kg, p < 0.05) and DEXA fat-free mass (P = 0.1 +/- 1.0; WC = 1.8 +/- 0.6; WBG = -0.1 +/- 0.2 kg, p < 0.05). Significant increases in 1RM bench press and leg press were observed in all groups after 10 weeks. In this study, the combination of whey and casein protein promoted the greatest increases in fat-free mass after 10 weeks of heavy resistance training. Athletes, coaches, and nutritionists can use these findings to increase fat-free mass and to improve body composition during resistance training.

Carb up day yesterday! YUM! Still didn't meet my calorie goal for the day, which should be 1900...It's all due to me missing 1 of my meals, while I am at work.

Clothes are looser, feeling lighter...all is good!

Forgot to mention, they found a perfect match (10/10) bone marrow donor for my nephew yesterday. The chances of that are 1/500, so we consider ourselves blessed. The decision to do the bone marrow transplant has not been made. My brother and SIL plan to wait until this phase of chemo is over, which should be a few weeks, before deciding. It's not an easy decision, since there are risks w/the transplant or w/continuing chemo.

I actually don't have a post workout shake....I know, I know, I've heard that it's crucial to have that post workout shake, but I tend to put on and maintain muscle considerably easy, so don't feel the neccesity to have one post workout.

The old me would be like WHAT?!?! and posting as many 's as I can. It is very important to have a PWO shake . . . BUT as I have learned from someone, if you are going to do that . . . you absolutley need to make sure that your getting the right PreWO nutrients. What is the macro breakdown of your pre workout meal?

I went to get my license renewed, since it expires on my bday this year (10/27)...I wanted to be sure that I am able to vote come voting time. I was surprised that it didn't take me as long as expected to get renewed. I took a gamble and went to a *** office across town, b/c I heard it wasn't as busy as the one down the street from my job. I was in and out in 45 mins! I decided to take advantage of the time I had and went home and took a nap before picking up the monster...so no cardio yesterday!

I doubt I would embarrass you! I have been focusing on hams and glutes a lot, so they have been getting stronger!

It's pretty planned what I have to eat, yams, oatmeal, grapefruit, almonds, PB. I am going to the movies w/daughter though and those peanut m&m's are calling my name...does that count as a carb up?

Thanks.

M&M's will work, I like the Almonds or Peanut kind though.

I resisted the M&Ms, but made up for it Sunday, when I caved and ate way too much Nutella!

I really have to push myself, b/c with my daughter around it makes it harder...she was really good this weekend though. I let her know how proud of her I was that she was well behaved while I worked out and got her a surprise.

It's harder than during the week, but the eating is the hardest part...b/c I'm couped in my house bored, while my daughter sleeps and I tend to want to snack.

Protein sucked!

Here is a recipe that comes from Marc from Scivation in which he uses
-1 scoop of whey
-some natural peanut butter
-some water
-some frozen blueberries

He calls it sludge, it's pretty good and filling. Definitely something you can have at night. Any good tasting chocolate protein can be used, in my case I used Ultra peptide 1.0 from Xtreme Formulations or you could use Scivation's Whey.

Ah yes, the reward. I use that often. Some people look down on bribery. I find it essential for survival with a 4 year old!

It does work wonders! I make sure I tell my daughter every chance I get to that she is being well behaved and making me proud of her. It's easy to always mention when they mis-behave...I want to be sure she also realizes I recognize when she is well behaved.

Was leaving for to drop daughter off at daycare this morning and noticed that her ankle was swollen. Checked it out and she has a bite and the entire ankle is swollen, red and hard! I took her to daycare and came into work, b/c I have some things I need to get done, but will be leaving early to take her to the DR. Poor baby...she didn't even complain about it and I asked her if it hurt and she said yes. She's a toughy! I think it may be a spider bite.
