Yeah, just started getting into the tailgating this year. We used to go into a special lounge for club seat holders inside the stadium to entertain clients, but tailgating is alot more fun and I save about $400 a game :D
We crank up the music, grill out, play corn hole, and get tanked :D
Niners are a good team. Gore is awesome. He's on one of my fantasy football teams.
I know what I mean when I say corn hole :D what is the corn hole game?LOL

Lol it has nothing to do with Beevis and Butthead :D
It's also called corn toss. Kind of like horseshoes, but you toss corn filled bags at a board with a hole in it. It's alot of fun, especially when drinking :)

Thanks I think. Jack you eat this stuff?
Not that way. I grew up in Newfoundland and we ate 'baccalao,' or salt cod. The cod fishery was always big until the 1980s and as late as the 1960s there was a general lack of refridgeration so the cod was brought to St. John's and heavily salted and laid out on 'flakes,' dried out in the sun. In this way it could last a long long time and be shipped. So a real Newfoundland (and Scandinavian, and Jamaican) (the histories of these places are intertwined in fascinating ways) delicacy is salt fish mixed with other stuff. You have to soak the baccalao in cold water overnight to work a lot of the salt out of it but even when it's cooked it still tastes (deliciously) salty. In Newfoundland it's often cooked with "brewis" which is hard, unleavened bread loaves softened in fresh water and mashed. The salt fish and brewis is then covered with melted fat back pork rinds. MMMM.... NEWFIE SOUL FOOD. I still love it, but never get it except for trips back home. The Jamaicans do something different with their baccalao: they make salt fish stews with veggies, tomatoes, etc.
But for Thanksgiving, to answer Mary's question, here in Canada at large the traditional dinner is still turkey. It's just that we aren't having it this year; we'll await Christmas.

Someone gave me a turkey deep fat fryer a few years ago and I still haven't used it. I might get it out this Thanksgiving and give it a shot. Not the healthiest way eat turkey though.

This is a traditional Swedish dish (also served in Norway but the Danes have more sense). It is a dish that you acquire a taste for (like Haggis). When you do acquire a taste you love it so I'm told. I have not cooked this recipe but it comes from a traditional source. This is not a joke this is an authentic recipe!

Yes you did and I thank you, too, Dan.
Hey, remember in a recent post I said I was still sore from Wednesday's workout. I STILL AM - that was 5 days ago! Sore mainly in the pecs, delts, and, most damnably, the triceps. Today I'm going to work out regardless, because I want to get back into some regularity and it's another week of travelling, starting tomorrow. But the problem with sore tris is that I can feel them give out on the pressing moves....

I do remember. Sometimes for me it takes 6 or 7 days to get past a burn from not working out. Where to this time?

Well, I'm glad to see it's not merely me! Mrs. Whiskeyjack says to go light and that's what I'll do so I don't suffer (or rather face) the ignominy of being weaker that I wanted...
Anyway, this time it's up and down the coast doing interviews. Not too far. Later on this month it's Saskatchewan, and then Sydney, Nova Scotia.

You're not missing much. Smells and taste terrible. I'll take salted fish over lye fish any day. The way I understand it is the immigrants coming out of Norway and Sweden were pretty poor in the old days and this was one of the cheaper ways to preserve the meat. Now it's more for getting back to their roots.
The turkey fryer is about the size of a small smoker. People who cook their turkey this way swear by it. I'm going to try it at least.

I am no longer fussy about travelling because I have to travel SO often. In my own job I have to travel a lot, and in the job I'm currently acting in I have to do so more; not only that, I'm actually doing both jobs right now (and it's killing me, aaahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and so have twice my normal travel ratio...after awhile you start dreading the 5 hour flights to Toronto (twice in as many weeks I went there), the crappy hotel rooms with the inevitable lousy paintings and chipped sideboards and Gideon bibles, the toting of lap top through airport security kiosks, the bad coffee and time changes and strains... BAH...
I was in Lincoln City as part of my honeymoon ('92) - we were enroute south along the Oregon Coast. We enjoyed it. I love the US western seaboard, truthfully, all the way from Cape Flattery to San Diego. I just don't get there on my travels, unless by pleasure.

We shall stand by for the results. I look forward to it.
Mrs. Whiskeyjack bought a smallish deep fryer. She deep fries rarely and is pretty careful - uses "good" canola oil, home-made batter and not too much of it, etc. We had d/f chicken last Friday. She also tried to d/f some asparagus.

It really started all out with my mother. Yesterday during Thanksgiving breakfast she presented me with a loaf of her well-beloved fresh home-baked white bread. It makes really good French toast and so this morning Mrs. Whiskeyjack made a batch which I gobbled down with blackstrap 'lassy; this set me up good in the glycemic world, ablaze with energy.
I strolled into the gym in my lumberjack rig and took off my glasses as usual. It was relatively quiet, holiday weekend and all. Then I saw GBG swing by. She turned, casually waved, and cried "Yo Whiskeyjack!" She wore a baggy grey T-shirt tied at the waist over grey shorts with black tights underneath. Her hair was tied up and she was sweating and content. She looked great.
And lo and behold! - there in the foreground was Dan Vliet panting and glaring at the hyperextension horse to which he was clearly bound to return! He was a big stocky barrel-chested fellow, clad in a bright blue T-shirt which had been cut off at the shoulders. He had big hoary arms. Sweat glistened on his bare pate, trickling down into his eyes. He gave a curt nod and dove back on.
These two put me to shame, for chrissakes. I had to get going. This was only my 2nd workout in about 2 months. I decided to mix it up. Instead of all body torso and limbs, today I'd do all body push-pull.
But the tris were sore from the last workout so I was "down" in the benches and shoulder presses, no surprise there; GBG and Dan Vliet pretended not to notice, good friends that they are. When I got to triceps there was GBG doing close grip presses with 115lbs, about the same as me! And although Dan, like me, couldn't do pullups, he sure as **** kicked my ass on bent over rows.
Some fat bastid grinned contemptuously as I ground out my final seated incline dumbell curls with pathetic 35lb dumbells. Dan asked him what the fcuk he was laughing at. And when a group of cardio bunnies finished their spin classes and flooded the gym, giggling and gorgeous, I noticed nearsightedly that they smiled at me, one even enticingly. That was GBG's doing, God love 'er.
