After many years of avoiding it I have been talked into coaching soccer and now it has started. There were many years in my life where running about a field of grass in between two big white rectangles was the main focus of my existence. Club, High School, More Club, College, even more Club and even a brief and uneventful foray into the world of payed to play. For the good of my soul and all humanity I buried that monster. Now it is being unleashed on a group of unsuspecting Jr. High students, poor buggers...I guess it must not be too bad, today was practice #2 and they all asked if I could tell their parents to go back home because they were having fun. Not quite sure how I'm going to prep for my last few Highland Games, but I'm finally getting in some needed cardio. (What, you don't think I was just going to sit me fat arse on the sidelines do you?)

I played baseball all through high school and a little in the Army. Without exception the coaches I enjoyed played hardest for were the ones that knew how to balance having fun with hard work. And they all loved what they did and had fun themselves. You'll do fine man - have a blast.

Does your form of coaching soccer entail kicking the ball through the goalposts, then ripping the goal posts out of the ground and throwing them as far downfield as you can?
