View Full Version : Optimal Weight loss (How many pounds per week)

In your opinion, what is the optimal amount of weight to lose per week for a show... I know it is better to stay pretty close to a show weight so that you do not have to drop a lot fast... That being said. I am planning to do a show in 19 weeks. I am using a CKD diet and am considering losing on average 2-3 pounds per week. Sound fair? Unrealistic? Muscle depleting? etc... I am currently 240ish and am hoping to compete at 200 but will probably end up at 190-195.

3lbs is probably a bit on the high end to lose each week. With that will come some hard earned muscle. If possible try to limit your weight loss per week to 1 - 1.5 per week.....I'd say 2lbs per week at the max. You can always start dieting earlier. 19 weeks at 2lbs each week will give you a total weight loss of 38lbs. 24 weeks at 1.5lbs will put you at 36lbs lost. I can guarantee that the second example will provide a much better physique. Obviously you are bound by your time restraint. So do what you must! I hope this helped!
