View Full Version : O/T embarrasing songs on your iPod.

I'll preface this thread w/a related story.

I drive a somewhat beefy 85 Ford Bronco. I pulled into the gas station and left the stereo on because Dead Kennedy's "Too Drunk To ****" was playing and it would be sacrilegious to turn it off in the middle of the song. Mind you, I'm not one of these guys that likes to make a big scene everywhere I go w/my music and automobile and stuff. I'm not one to drive by really slowly as if to say, "Hey, look at me, my speakers will make your ovaries sterile if you step any closer." So for that fact, I did turn it down a bit.

I guess I looked like somewhat of a bad ass to the girl who just pulled behind me with my punk music playing and my ripped jeans and leather wrists bands because she shot a huge smile at me. So I go into the gas station to pay for my gas and get an egg salad sandwich because that's what I always eat when I feel bad-ass. I'm staring to feel pretty cocky by now. I walk towards the door as if George Thorogood's Bad To The Bone is playing in my head.

I look at the girl again and she seems somewhat amused. I as I get closer to my car I find out that the Dead Kennedy's song is over and the iPod has randomly and inconveniently started playing Paula Abdul's "Rush Rush". All the hardcoreness dissipated into the air like vapor and I was left feeling more bitch-made than an acordian player in a polka band.

A myriad of justifications and excuses flew into my brain. "This is my sister's iPod." "I bought this iPod used and this song was already on it!" "I just like this song for the violin solo!"

But then I said, "screw it, just go with it." So I turned it up all the way, revved my engine and rode off into the sunset bumping some Paula Abdul like a true gangsta gangsta.

So, we all have songs like this on our iPods. Don't act like you don't! Let's man-up or woman-up and share w/everyone else. You might even finds some ideas for more songs to download.

I'll start.
I've got about 6 madonna songs. "Get into the Groove" is my favorite when I'm doing dead lifts.

No Rick Astley, thank god.

"My name is Luka, I live on the 2nd floor"... that's all I have to say about that.

Jewel, "Who Will Save Your Soul"

"Rock Me Amadeus"

"Push it real good, dun duh dun dun dunna nana nanana"

Sinead O'Connor "Nothing Compares To You"

Cherry Pie [although that's not bad for attracting the cougars who were once hair band groupies]

Fresh Prince "Parent's Just Don't Understand"...

That's all I can think of right now.. i'll add more later.

I have a bunch of compilation albums and stuff I keep 'safe' for my wife and kids because the kids scratch all the CD's.

Looking though, for individual songs, this is probably the most embarrassing:

We close our eyes, by Go West.

or maybe

Love city groove by Love city groove, yup, that's really bad.

For an entire album, I think the worst is Meat Loaf.

Exactly. I mean, after all, it is an MP3 player, right? :)

I don't own or use an MP3. But "embarrassing music" brings to mind; back around 82', I bought MJ's Thriller on vinyl. Yeah, I had a rep, so I didn't want anyone to know, lofl. To this day, I still think it's an absolutely brilliant piece of work.

The truth is, when I was growing up there were no truly dedicated R&R radio stations. Oh, some said they were, but they were really a mix of R&R, R&B, Soul, and pop. And for this, I am most thankful. There was no snobbery, so to speak, radio-wise. There was nothing better to me than to be able to hear Marvin Gaye, followed by Zeppelin, James Taylor, CSNY, and then some O Jays, all on the same station. I ended up largely listening to hard, psych, & prog rock, but I've always had a love for almost all genres of music.

If you looked at the CDs currently in my car, you'd see Floyd, Nugent, Al Di Meola, Styx, Deep Purple, Thom Rotella Band, Yes, Little River Band, Nazareth, The Scorpions, Don Henley, and The Eagles. Pretty wide variety right there. Whatever the mood may be............

I have 150 songs currently on my Sansa. Most embarrassing? Probably "Too Shy" by Kajagoogoo. That is a real poppy toe tapper! I like a wide range of rock/pop. On the same Sansa with Kajagoogoo I have Ministry, Praxis, and NIN, Crowded House and about 50 other bands. Sometimes I like the soft/mellow stuff, other times I want to listen to the kind of music that would clear "normal" people from a room.

Full list of bands currently in my itunes (you know you've life is going through a slow phase when you have time to compile s### like this)

a-ha, Alcazar, Alice Cooper, Alien Ant Farm, Alice Deejay, Alizee, Aly&AJ, The Angels,
Aqua, Ashlee Simpson, Atomic Kitten, Avril Lavigne, Backstreet Boys, Billy Joel, Blondie, Blue Man Group, Bomfunk MC's, Britney Spears, Bryan Ferry, The Buggles, Cascada, Charlotte Church, Cher, Cherie, Chris Brown, Clannad, Cliff Richard, The Dandy Warholes, Danni Minogue, The Darkness, Duran Duran, The Donnas, Eiffel 65, Emmma Bunton, Enrique Iglesias, Faith Hill,
A Flock of Seagulls, Greg Kihn, Gretchen Wilson, Groove Coverage, Guns'n'Roses, Gwen Stefani, Hilary Duff, Hot Butter, The Human League, Iggy Pop, John fogerty, Johny Cash, JoJo, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Kim Carnes, Kim Wilde, Lenny Kravitz, Lillix, Lindsay Lohan, M2M, Madagascar 5, Mediaeval Baebes, Miley Cirus, Nelly Furtado, Noiseworkds, OK Go, Petra, The Postal Service, Redgum, Ronan Hardiman, Roxette, Russel Morris, Sandi Thom, Scissor Sisters, September, Shakira, Shania Twain, Sheryl Crow, Simple minds, Skyhooks, Sneaky Sound System, Sophie B Hawkins, Spice Girls, Starship, Stephanie McIntosh, Steve Earl, Steve Winwood,
Tanja Thomas, Timbaland, Timbuk 3, Tina Turner, Tom Chocrane, Toto, U2, Van Halen, Vanessa Hudgens, Wang Chung, Weid Al Yankovic, White Lion, The who.

(but remove from above bands any song that has a slow beat - with a few exceptions - can't stand slow music).

To redeem myself - My all time favourite band is AC/DC (but not available on itunes).

All time favourite song - Sweet child of mine - Guns and Roses.

The only things I'm embarrassed about - maybe "Barbie girl"-Aqua and definitely "Together in Electric Dreams"-Human League.
(OK and maybe Enrique Iglesias and maybe Hilary Duff and Miley Cyrus, and I guess Alcazar; and the two bands that didn't make the list
- don't want anyone getting the wrong idea).

PS: You know you have a juvenile taste in music when you turn up at Hilary Duff concert (In Australia) and find that you are the only person who is A-male and B-over the age of 13 - a tad embarrassing-I think she noticed me though (really how was I to know her fan base wasn't that mature -I'd only seen her in music vids - I'd never heard of whoever it is she played that had all the preteens obsessed with her - lost my high pitched hearing range that night).

I don't have ANY embarrassing songs on my iPod. However - it might be embarrassing if someone were to hear one or two of them.

Does anyone know Aphrodides Child, "666 The Apocalypse Of Saint John"? Vangellis's first band, outstanding progressive rock from Greece circa the early '70s.

There's this section with Irene Pappas (the actress) doing a simulated orgasmic sound over a rhythm that's twice as compelling as Ravel's Bolero. It's loud, it's sensuous, and it fits in with the overall theme of the music. BUT if someone were to hear it out of context, they'd have me arrested for lewd conduct! :D

I know this is an old thread but I just had to resurrect it to claim the title of most embarrassing song lover in this thread.

I originally looked this video up because I wanted to know the words after hearing them in an add

(I was curious because I was thinking that the makers of barbie don't have a politically correct view of their target audience but seem to see them as possessing a distinctly feminine mind set i.e. they sell a doll which sprouts its desire to be "protected" and "connected". How many dolls would they sell to boys if G.I Joe -or whoever it is these days- also sang about his desire to be "protected" and "connected"?
Yet in adult hood we can't see any reason not to treat men and women as unisex - example my government is now thinking of putting women soldiers on the front line subject to defence scientists determining physical limits for front line job roles rather than considering sex)

Anyway (forgetting politics) after listening to this video for research, much to my embarrassment I have fallen in love with it (except for last 2 sec - shame to commercialise such a beautiful song).

This is my favourite video (for the time being) - I've been playing it a lot at any rate (Katherine McPhee is just so cute, especialy when she smiles - she's one person I'd sure love to be providing protecting and connecting services to).

Two songs you will never find on my iPod:
"We Built This City."
"Party Like A Rock Star."
Confess if one of these two songs are on your iPod.
