My period hasnt come this month. I dont even think I have ovulated like I do every month.
I have been doing some intensive training lifting weights. Can this delay your period. Has it happened to any of you ladies and is it normal.
Im not pregnant by the way.
Many thanks.

Yes, it can cause a delay. Month before last I went through the samething. I'm not sure about others but when it is late it seems like the flow is heavier. Sorry if tmi lol.

Keep tabs on it..I lost mine a few years ago due to too much activity and not enough calories; too much weight loss, etc...I lost it and it never came back, even when I gained weight/bodyfat and ate enough calories..I'm currently being tested for hormones, etc...if yours doesn't return, go see a dr...in the meantime, make sure you're eating enough, getting enough rest!

Don't forget you're also 44. Not unusual to start having squirrely periods years before menopause. And there's always the thyroid. I did some skipping before medicated even though the typical symptom for hypo is longer, heavier periods.
Skipped mine last month, hoping I skip this month too. I want it over with :)

Don't stress it, and I know what you mean. I had a similar problem and brought it up to the doctor. She basically said that my body was producing less estrogen and that this was normal taking into consideration my age, body weight, diet and exercise routine. To ease my mind she put me back on the pill.
Good luck.

So if you're banging a chick who's a fitness competitor with no protection do you still have to worry about getting her pregnant? :D

Lol, I knew this would come up somewhere, but you are correct. I only lost a baby in March this year so I thought I was far away from menopause. My cycles have been pretty regular. For now I am going to blame my fitness regime. I have an appointment with the fertility clinic on Thursday because of all my miscarriages. I have had blood tests and they all come back normal but I think he is checking for something else this time.
I can never believe I am older than I am for some reason. I still act quite young and Im astonished I am actually 44.
Thankyou for all your comments.

Thankyou for your comments. I barely eat enough to feed a small child. Sometimes I shake (like when your very hungry) and I have to quickly eat something and then the shaking subsides. I do have a slight eating disorder and try my best not to get to a point where my stomach is full but I still weigh 115lbs which is pretty reasonable for my height of 5ft 2.
I do get enough rest but my fitness is somewhat excessive and thats why I was wondering if thats the reason for the delayed period. I do chart and my temps are up and down, when usually they are pretty consistent so there is definately something different this month.

not to hijack the thread but i have a related question
i have lost mine before but it returns... however i see some of yours have not returned even though you are at a healthy height and weight and calorie intake...
is it possible, then, for a girl to go through a "early menopause" or something? sorry this just interests me... a lot of girls i know who run don't have theirs, and so it makes me wonder if they will ever get it back...

Yes, amenorrhea (lack of menstruation) can lead to bone degeneration and is best avoided.
I dont get my periods either but I've got the Mirena IUD in ;)

see your doctor about this, also look into to treating this "slight eating disorder" whatever eating patterns you have now if they hinder your life in any way it needs to be addressed

They have found that my pituitary gland isn't producing enough hormones and that could be the cause..I will probably be getting on the pill for my bones..the last bone density scan put me on the lowish end of normal

Yes, heavy training does keep the big "P" away. I am actually grateful! When I do get it, it's like 1-2 days and then I am done. It's fabulous! I highly recommend it.

There is a huge part of your problem. How many cals are you getting? Barely eating and not gaining or losing is not healthy or a justification for that calorie level. You've just stalled your metabolism and your body is crying out to you. Having periods, a successful pregnancy, muscle gain, and fat loss all hinge on getting your diet in order. Don't kid yourself.

See, I was like this when I was 30%ish (probably) bodyfat and pretty sedentary except walking... I guess I have to stop walking in order to bulk up to 220... or not. :)

Thankyou for all your kind remarks except for some guys who just dont understand.
I know a girl who started menopause at the age of 27, the average age being 51. Apparently the later you start your period the later menopause will be. I dont think that was the case for the 27 year old though.
Most women usually find out the age their mother started the menopause and thats usually the age you will too, so the doc told me.

Same with me except I hadn't really changed much..... i've always been active and everything.... the only thing I had changed at the time is that I started eating healthy.... but it's not like I starved myself.... althought I did eat only like 1300 calories the first week but then I moved that up to 1600 for like 2 weeks and ever since I've been eating around 1800-2100.....
I personally feel blessed that I dont have to deal with my period... but I know at some point I'm going to want it back. I hate the fact that even though I havnt gotten my period.... I always have to worry at least a LITTLE whenever I go out with white pants or jeans or something that I dont happen to get my period.
ANyways I'm pretty sure my problem had to do with food....
I havnt gotten my period since May 28 2008

You are still very young. Did you start your period early? I do believe diet and exercise has alot to do with how our hormones work. I had 2 very light days and now nothing today and yet I am still getting cramps which feel related to my period. Its really odd.
Have you been to the doctors to ask him/her why they think you havent had a period in 3 months, maybe they can do some tests for you.
All the best to you and I do pray your period comes back at some point.

Yes, I started it when i was 10.
I had a physical 2 weeks ago and she told me that it's normal to get such a delay in your period when you change up your eating habits but that if it persist for like a year then it could be serious ( her exact words ) ....
and then like 3 days later I had to get an x ray on this thing I had ... and the lady asked me when my last period was and I told her the same thing and she's like oh why's that.... and I'm like Im guessing because i started eating way healthier.... and shes like oh... it happens to a lot of girls my age that exercise more or have a drastic(whatever the word is) change in what they eat. But the 2nd lady didnt seem so proffesional so idk.
And Thanks , hope all goes well with you too .=)

Amenorrhoea (loss of regular menstrual cycle) is really only a problem for female athletes suffering from *MALNUTRITION*. Its a sign of a physiological problem and you should consult your physician or OB/GYN and develop a way to resolve it. Frequently, women who suffer from amenorrhoea also suffer from abnormally low bone density (this doesn't go well with bodybuilding). If you admit to eating enough to keep a bird alive, then you have your answer. Its not the weight training / exercise directly-- its the malnutrition. Your body is suffering from extreme energy deficit and is cutting out non-essential bodily functions (your fertility). Take it seriously =(

I don't understand, if you're not having periods, than how can you get knocked up? Doesn't the egg need the endometrium to enrich it with nutritional goodies?

It is not so much about body fat as to:
1. where your 'set point' is for YOUR body (some people stop at 21%, others at 12%)
2. what your overall energy balance is (the loss of menstruation is much more about 'energy balance' than pure bodyfat). So, for any given bodyfat %, if your energy intake is +++ then your cycle will be more likely to stick around than if your energy intake is low.
