I will be noting how PEA affects my mind(concentration, clarity, willpower, mood, etc) and my body during workouts(mind-muscle connection, pain threshold, anything else).

I would like to thank Cognitive Nutrition for this chance to log what I hope will be an amazing product.

-Description-

PEA (PhenylEthylAmine) is an neuromodulator (monoamine) in the brain involved in mood and mental alertness. It naturally occurs in some amounts in chocolate, certain algae?s and is produced in the brain from the amino acid D-Phenylalanine.



Phenylethylamine is related to the following neurotransmitters and neuroactive compounds:



Dopamine (3,4-dihydroxy-phenethylamine), Tyramine (4-hydroxy-phenethylamine), Epinepinephrine (?,3,4-trihydroxy-N-methyl-phenethylamine), Ephedrine (N-methyl-?-hydroxy-amphetamine), etc.



Its chemically structural relation to these compounds account for its unique effects on mood, focus, mental alertness, and energy. However its effects are relatively short acting as it is usually broken down by the enzyme MAO-B within several hours. This makes it an ideal short-lived yet safe fast acting compound.



PEA (PhenylEthylAmine) 250 mg 120 capsules

Well, I checked the mail about 20 minutes before I was going to the gym, and low and behold, PEA.

Dosing
So I started off with a 1g dose on a semi-empty stomach (I only had a granola bar and some milk).

Effect
After about 15 minutes I kinda went "whoa!" and had a unique feeling that I cannot really compare to anything else. It only lasted for maybe 2-3 minutes. Then, I was ready to go workout.

Today was back and bi's and I had a great workout. PEA seemed to make me sweat a little more, which I love! Other than that, I didn't notice too much else.

I couldn't resist trying to get the PEA high.

Dose
I took 1.5g followed by .5g 20 minutes later. I did not have a completely empty stomach. I ate about 2 hours before and it was a medium sized meal.

Effect
After about 20 minutes I felt a tingle in my back, then arms, and I got a little flushed and hot. I also felt really relaxed. It wasn't very intense, but it was something. About 25 minutes after initial dose I took the .5g dose. I realize now that that was a bad timing. I felt no strong effects from that dose, except that I am sweating now lol!

Tomorrow I do not work out so I will take 1g followed by 1g 15 minutes later first thing in the morning and note the effects.

This morning I played it a little safe, just to be sure.

Dose
1g followed by .5g 10 minutes later

Effect
I thought nothing was going to happen. Then I got extremely light-headed. I did not feel nauseous, but man I was loopy. It wasn't very pleasant because I was not really able to function. I got no tingling or euphoric feeling. So far I feel better when I take it with a little bit of food.

I also got a bad headache later in the day. I took some excedrin and actually 500mg of PEA with food and I felt a lot better.

Its been about 45 minutes after my second dose, I decided to listen to some music and wow! I was definitely in one of those "music sounds so good" moods. I actually feel really really good too!

How would PEA stack with L-theanine?

Also, what do you make of the extreme light-headedness. It didn't feel like a "body" high, more like a head high.

L-Theanine may reduce some of PEA's effects which may not be a bad thing.
Perhaps cut back on the dose.

Ya, I actually get a pretty good feeling at 500mg -1000mg PEA even with some food. I may try 500mg tomorrow morning

500mg on an empty stomach(7 hours since eating), but with crackers.

Effect
Nice little pick me up. I drank a couple beers and man, they affected me more than normal. So, I would say, beer is more potent when PEA is taken beforehand.

Feeling tired and lethargic. Thought it was time for some PEA.

Dose
1g 2 hours after eating.

Effect
I am already feeling a little warm. PEA def makes me sweat some.

After about 30 minutes I felt more refreshed. Nothing like a stimulant, but I just feel better. Again, this stuff makes music very nice.

I think I like 1g better for workouts. However, I was still super focused and ready to go. I felt a pretty good mind/muscle connection during squats. I even went up in weight today. I definitely like its effects for workouts.

Seems to be an ideal pre workout supplement.

It should not.
Probably best on an empty stomach unless you get any nausea.

Felt a little mood lift, increased concentration, and of course a bit of sweating. However, all of these effects were small. I may try 1.25g tomorrow.

You can try 1 gram followed by 500 mg 15 mins later.

Sorry it has been awhile, but I have been uber busy with a vacation and then catch-up work.

In the meantime I have still been taking PEA and have almost finished the bottle.

I will do a review of it soon.
