Hi, i'm looking for some advice to give to my girlfriend, she wants to be able to support her own bodyweight, but i'm not sure about female working out, i know enough for myself when it comes to working out and a little on nutrition.

Now i know for a fact she is a mesomorph, i've seen a difference within a week... and she has said that she doesn't want to build muscle

She's not overweight or anything, she's 5'9,and around 9.5 stone

She cant do 1 press up, but is very motivated in order to improve.

So far all i can come up with is,
Pressups on knees or against the wall in order to build up strength to full press ups.
Squats and Lunges
Situps/Leg Raises other variations...
I would put in pulling movements but i don't think she has any access to pull up bars or dip bars

Other than this i dont know what to advise, i left her my old 20kg dumbells if that's any good, but she might not want to, and i dont think she wants to join a gym either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

There is a topic(s) on this forum that goes through a pretty good routine using only bodyweight, make a search and try and find it. Other than that, many girls think that if they lift weights they will become bulky and get huge, which is really not true at all. If you look around this site you'll see a lot of women that lift weights and train hard that are not bulky at all. Women typically don't have the necessary hormones that men have in order to bulk up that much when lifting weights. It's a common misconception with girls and women and is why many of them stray away from gyms and weight lifting or decide to only do treadmill and use 2 lb weights. Read up on some articles on the BB.com website, you'll find that there is nothing wrong with women using weights and you can then pass that information along to your girlfriend.

From what I've learnt on the BB forums - there is no difference between how male bodies and female bodies respond when doing weight bearing or weight lifting. Same with nutrition.

Gyms and weightlifting are good for everybody, not just those who aspire to be BBs or Fitness Models... and the woman who can 'bulk up' is a rare breed (and good on them!) but most will tend towards the lean-muscular look instead.

I'd encourage her to see lifting not as a freakish exercise but as something that bodies seem to be made to need (whether evolutionist or other!).

Let her loose on these forums to learn directly from others and she'll find support and loads of information!
