This is mostly a question to those who own one or have at least shot one. Second hand opinions are abundant lol.
It looks like a pretty cool unique rifle. Accuracy reports I've seen look good. It's .223 which I have a ton of ammo for, and it's nice and compact, and seems to be relatively well made. I also like that you can stick some mags in the stock, and the foregrip folds out into a bipod. They also accept standard AR15 mags, which means getting mags for it will be cheap, not to mention I can use all the ones I already have. Also, its piston operated, not direct impingement, so if their system works half as well as an AK, it ought to be pretty darn reliably and clean running (at least compared to an AR, in the cleanliness department anyway, AR's are plenty reliable). It's also got the flat topped rail already on it, so optics will be a breeze to mount right out of the box. Couple all that with a less than $500 price tag... do I have a winnar?
I haven't really decided on which model is my favorite though

Interesting gun. Only thing that scares me is the kel tec name. I just dont like my fathers kel tec 9mm. Maybe this is good to go though?

Yeah I was sort of thinking the same thing. I am also looking to see if I can find a write up on it by someone who has put at least 5-10 thousand rounds through it (to see how it holds up) but I don't think they have been out long enough for anyone to get there.

Check out the Kel-Tec owner's group SU-16 forum. Plenty of info there:

I would only have one of those second-hand opinions. I had a Kel-Tec P-32 I think it was called (tiny pocket-sized .32 auto). Very crappy quality, but also low priced. I just eventually decided I didn't want to bet my life on it, so I went back to carrying my Colt Mustang Pocketlite .380.
Don't expect a high level of fit and finish on Kel-Tecs. I wouldn't do anything more than shoot cans or targets with them.

I agree. Crap quality. Save up some more and get an AR

I've already got an AR.
I want it because of it's portability. With it folding up like that i could easily stick it in a back pack for camping and hiking. Also I just think it's a cool little gun lol.
I wish I could find some place where I could actually hold one, but the last couple of fun shows (and my local gun stores) don't have them.

There's an Eastman gun show this weekend here in ATL. I'll see if there are any around, and report back if this thread's still alive. There are always about a dozen dealers selling the little Kel-Tec pistols. The dealer I bought my Kimber from at the last show had a bunch of them. Since I wasn't shopping for rifles, I didn't notice if they had em.

Awesome thanks. There is a fairly huge show coming up in October in Houston that I'll be going to, hopefully they'll have some there.

In that case...maybe it would be a good buy just to tinker around with. Buy it and report back to us lol. Maybe I will buy one then!

I'll put some money in one eventually, most likely, but in the immediate future I have some other purchases in mind...

I had the opportunity to get one really cheap and passed it up. Sure it may be portable but I haven't heard many good things of Kel-Tec. Would rather have an AR pistol.

OK there was one dealer selling these things at the Eastman show this weekend.
DO NOT buy this gun. Just the flimsiest, cheesiest gun I've ever held. Made a Russian AK47 look like an HK 91. When I was playing with it somebody said something about there being rubber o-rings in the sear, and they swell and break if you clean your gun with solvent or lube. I always spray my guns down with 3 in 1 after shooting.
Keltecs are just too cheap and crappy, even for a target gun. Better choices out there.

Dang that's hard to hear... I liked the way they looked in the pics and everything.
Thanks for the heads up on the o-rings as well.

It would make a GREAT bug out rifle...given it foldability. Get the version that stores extra magazines in the stock.
That being said, I would rather have an AK or an AR...those are true assault rifles...tested and true.
Although this rifle is likely perfect for anything YOU would encounter...it is not up to par with the AKs and ARs.

looks to me like the perfect rifle for f-class...
AR pistol > kel tec. if your talking pure portability

Yeah I've got an AR I was mostly looking at this as a back up rifle and highly portable.
To the other guy, I kind of hate AR pistols haha. I will most likely never built one.
When I've got the money I'll probably end up getting one anyway, it may just be a while. I still need to get a new CCW (Kahr pm9 I've decided on) and then I really need to stock up on 9mm/.223/.303 ammo and spare parts before I get one.
Actually I've been looking at the AR-10's lately as well....
