Has anyone ever built there own chin-up bar? I would like to build some type of chin-up bar that hangs from the ceiling. So let me know if you have done this before. I have some ideas but just not sure yet.

what kind of ceiling ? and do you plan doing weighted chins??

Just a flat ceiling that is in my small apartment. I plan on starting the P90X program soon.

I remember in one thread in the past, there was a link to a website that showed you how to make your own chin up bar that would hook onto a doorway. Try a search for "homemade equipment" or something similar. I know it's in this forum somewhere.

Check these out on eBay, I bought the Joist Mount type and love it! You can go with wall mount, door mount or joist mount. They would be easy enough to duplicate if you have a welder.

i wanted the no drill doorway one, and all the amazon reviews (a few different brands make these) contain at least one story about a guy falling down with the bar in his hand because it slipped. just a word of caution.

I built my own chinup bar for P90X, but it free stands on the floor. I used 2 4x4's, some 2x4's and a metal pipe for the bar. I used carriage bolts and wing nuts also. You can totally disassemble them for storage.

I took some pics with my phone, will try to u/l them tomorrow.

I just bought a chinup bar like the one beachbody.com sells that goes in a doorway without having to fasten it.....works great! $50 at a local Fitness Source store.
