i punched my door and now my fifth metacarpal is cracked, the swelling has gone down considerably, since day before yesterday, but i still get lilttle pain while using my little finger. PLZ ADVICE ON:
1) how can i recover from this injury as quickly as posssible?
2) people with past experience ,how long did it take for you to start lifting again?
3) what should my diet be , till the time i am off lifting??

Honestly man, I know you don't want to hear this, but I'd take up a completely different hobby for a while. Get some perspective and relax for a while.
Broaden your horizons a bit. Take up meditation, or reading or music or something. Let it heal gradually and well.
There will always be time later for the gym, it's not going anywhere.
Good Luck.

Yea, depending on the fracture...you could be looking up to 6 months before you can start using the hand the way you want to again. The best thing you can do for it is rest it. Stay away from alcohol and tobacco products while it is healing otherwise you you could delay the healing process up to 2 even 3 fold!
Take whatever it is that your Doc has given you and follow their instructions.
When you do go back to lifting please make sure that you slowly ramp up on that hand. Last thing you want it to irritate it only to find out it's not fully set.
Sorry to hear you broke your hand, but that's what happens when you punch stationary objects. Sure discovered that on your own though. Hopefully you'll heal fast and strong. Good luck!

Have you had the fracture diagnosed by a professional or is this your own conclusion which you've come to after you punched the door? Just asking in case you have access to an xray...you should have been given info about what to do. Also if you've been to see a professional (Dr, A&E, etc) and they haven't immobilised the bone then it is usually a good indication that it's not a serious injury therefore injury healing should be less.
In acute injuries where swelling is likely then ice helps...regular 3-4 times per day for 10 minutes at a time can help reduce pain and swelling and improve recovery time...as well as what DocTurtle said about tobacco and alcohol. Another important factor in healing is rest. Not necessarily your whole body, but definitely your hand therefore if you can train without pain by using wrist straps on the pulley/cable machines then you could probably still do upper body on the injured hand side.
Good luck!

If is is not bad, should be fairly well healed in 2-4 weeks and back to pretty full fucntion by about 6 weeks. It has been x-rayed and reviewed I assume.

I had an avulsion fracture on my left 5th in the beginning of college and I had it splinted for the better part of 3 weeks. This was after an entire week of ignoring the pain and rock climbing with it- I had an xray done a few days after and was told it wasn't a big deal, then they called me back a week later and they were like "lol jsut kidding d00d, it is a fracture". The splint + physical therapy after helped. If your primary care doesn't think it's a big deal, find someone who does.
Rowing was difficult and any kind of grip work (especially plate pinches) were basically out of the question. Bench and military press were alright, as was leg work. I could deadlift if I didn't grasp the bar with pinkies too hard. Overall it wasn't all that bad.
Unfortunately, it wasn't until a few months ago that I stopped getting random pain from it.

An avulsion fracture is a different kind of fracture to a simple impact fracture.

Also broke my pinky about 4 years ago punching a door (called a boxer's fracture) and my doctor wanted to do surgery but said I shattered it into so many pieces that it'd be like sticking a screw through sand. After my cast, I was back pretty quickly and limited use of my finger and lowered weight.

This I'm aware of, is the recovery time really that much more though?

It is hard to compare the two due to the diffrent nayiure of the fractures, different forces applied during healing, sites etc.
Fractures aint fractures!!
