That's what I say. Last weekend was in the 70's, warmest I've ever seen it since I moved here back in 95. This coming weekend is supposed to be in the 20's and 30's with snow.
That's good for Deer Hunters though.......not good for me.

Now I understand that you guys are from Brickhouse Red states... And as such the majority of what you've heard is negative rhetoric; that just came out of the most negative campaign that I've ever seen run, since my Father plopped me down in front of the TV and told me to "Pay Attention" to the 1984 electoral race.
But the reality is that if America is going to get fixed, it's going to come from all of us working together to fix America...
The President is still little more than the Job Supervisor... It's up to "We the People" to bring the tools, lumber and nails to start rebuilding our country...
Our Father's and Grandfathers fought wars on Foriegn soil to preserve the cause of Liberty... Because in those times the tyranny and oppression of other nations was the greatest threat. Now the greatest threat is in Apathy, and that Apathy is rooted here on our soil... It's the thing that keeps Brothers from being Fellow Americans... It's the thing that tells corporations that greed is okay... It's the thing that tells people to slap some more money on their credit card, and take out a **** loan.
******
"America is a great pick up truck that has 4 flat tires..." -Ted Nuggent
We need to spend our time not whineing about how to fix the engine or who's gonna drive...
What we need is people who want to roll up their sleeves and change the goddam tires! And none of that is ever going to be accomplished if 47% of the population simply says "I'm going to take my ball and go home!"

We have no choice but to give him room to work and hope for the best. What we have been getting bombed with down here is the taking of ammo (making it unaffordable), hunting rights, shutting down business with the wealth distribution.
I employ 35 men, over half are minority. They all think I have to pay them more now, right now. Obama will pay for their mortgage and gas and I have to make their pay equal to mine. WTF! This is the crap that will come to a head by mid next year, once the uneducated finds out that those promises were just hear say that they kept believing and passing on.
I have some mexicans, and they think Obama will keep them here, buy them a house EACH, and have me work for them. They all think I will work for each of them while they sit inside and watch soccer. Honestly, stupid should hurt!

That's a product of Mis-Information... More generated by the Republican Attack Machine, attempting to turn away affluent voters like yourself from voting Obama.
I've watched this campaign ridiculously close. (I mean I even followed the candidates on their stance about hunting in National Parks!)
And there was nothing generated in Obama's Message that made those outlandish claims.
*****
Personally... I don't think the people making under 250K need a tax break... However... The 250K+ bracket's Tax Break, I think needs to go.
That was ultimately put in place by Bush in 2003 to curry political capital for his 2004 re-election campaign.
And if there's one thing I stand against, it's corruption, and 2 things I stand for... Truth and the re-empowering of America.
******
I think back to a piece of wisdom once shared with me, that's become a way of life... (From a story I shared in this thread before.)
"When the darkness gets around you, to chase the shadows away, you've got to turn your light up."
Now for each of us, regardless of political stripe, our light gets turned up in a different way.
And each of us to a man has to seek that solution within his life... Whether it's you adjusting your business strategy, or me writing a book, or Fitty publishing a recipe for Turtle soup that cures cancer. ;) :) (You can do it!)
We're at a point in history now, where we can't just "Talk" about how we're going to change the 4 flat tires of this country... We have to actually take out the tire irons, and spares, and down to the work, in our own way, playing to our own strengths... To bring this grand old lady of America back to life.
*****
The reality is that America "Fell Down" not because Bush is a retard. It "Fell Down" because We the People, let it fall down...
We focused only on our own interests... Our own lives, Our own goals... And we did it on all levels of this culture...
We stopped becoming the writers of the story of our lives, and allowed ourselves as a Culture to let the story of America be Read to us...
It's time for each of us to do the hard work... Pick up the pen again, and start writing the story of the America to be.
Because when we do that... It matters less about what political party the president is from, and more about who you are as a father, a son, a husband, a boss, a person, and an American.

I mean after 8 years of Bush/Cheney, and 6 years of a GOP dominated legislature, we're waging 1 war, one occupation, both failing, the economy has tanked, we're trillions in debt, people are losing jobs, and their healthcare, and their civil rights, our standing in the world is the worst it's been in your lifetime......

Yeah when it comes to gun Policy... I disagree with much of Obama's Policies... However, it's one of his weakest pushes, and it's one of the strongest constitutional ammendments...
So really... At this point no one sould go Yiaper in their Diaper.
*****
The one aspect of Obama's gun Policy that I do agree with those is his Policy for keeping Hunting Banned in National Parks. (A Policy that McCain Vehemently opposed.)
The reason Obama feels this way, and I agree... Is that National Parks are also recreation areas for families...
So if I go visit Yellowstone, in the fall, and go hiking, and my kid is wearing a brown coat, instead of blaze orange, it invites disaster.

Well I don't think anyone is flaming anyone in here...
For my part, I think I summed up it up best in a rep I gave to OMT, when he and I disagreed... "I Respect you as a man, I admire you as a Husband and father, I love you like a Brother, and remember you always in my prayers."
That goes for all the regulars of the Ramble.
People might disagree... But there's always a sense of Brotherhood here... And I think that's the central thread that keeps this thread so strong.
The reality is that this campaign did a lot to create divisions amongst all the branches of the American people... Mostly by political *******s bending the case of the half truths to their own whims...
And I believe it's far better to disagree with someone and still respect them, than it is to simply take your ball and go home.

10,000 years ago, *** and G-Tok-Tok argued around the fire place about whether it was right to trade Elk Meat for Grain...
But when the enemy tribe came over the hill they both took up their spears in the common cause to defend their village...
It's just now *** and G-Tok-Tok, have been replaced by Flying V and Longball...
Elk Meat and Grain is now Tax and Gun Policy...
And the Evil Threatening to come over the hill, is the bankruptcy of the American culture...
It's time we found a way to pick up the spears of our willingness to be our brothers keeper and slay Apathy for the sake of Liberty and Honesty.

But that's inaccurate to a point... "Brady" was/is a Republican... Who was shot during the Regan Assassination attempt.
Clinton Agreed with his legislation and signed the Bill into Law... The Bill got to him though only after a Republican Majority Congress put it on his desk, 10 months after Clinton Assumed Office.
And I could be wrong on this, but I believe that John McCain himself Voted For the Brady Bill when it was introduced into the Senate the first time under the First president Bush.

Okay...
So now as you guys know... I've coined my life style as "Living Forward."
And follow the Matra of a Piece of advice given to me many years ago... "When the darkness gets around you, all you have to do to chase the shadows away is Turn Your Light Up."
I think all of us regardless of political stripe feel that America is in a tough place right now, and that she needs our help.
So I think instead of looking at the Bull**** divisions created by political parties that have Hog Washed truth in both directions...
I think we should focus on what each of us can do in our own way to try to help America "Turn the Light Up!"
Obviously each of us has our own path, our own circumstances.
So rather than talk about what's missing from the picnic basket... Let's talk about what we all can do/intend to bring to the Pot Luck that is America's future... And maybe we can do what we do best in this thread and "Redistribute the Wisdom."
******
In my own case...
I'm currently looking into buying one of 3 forclosed homes... (Which getting them bought up helps the economic base Massively.) They all need $10-50K, in materials, and work...
As such I'm researching contractors and supply companies that sell American products.
*****
I'm also going to start working again with student groups at my old college.
AND... I've been educating myself on more green Alternatives in the promotional Products industry.
-Just this week, I found one company that owns the rights to a new type of plastic that is made from recycled plastic, which in the regrind, they have a proprietary process that makes it so the plastic when put into a landfill with actually biodegrade.
-Then I also ordered a sample yesterday of a special type of hooded sweatshirt, that is made in a Zero Landfill Factory... From 70% recycled cotton (From Old Jeans) and 30% Poly made from reground plastic bottles.
^^^^The problem I run into is that all of the "Non-Green" competitive products cost 15-20% less, so it's a hard sell.

Elections and the process of evaluating candidates are appropriate occasions to use and express political judgment IMO.
Hey I vote promilitary, hell everyone I know is pro military, people just disagree about what that means. I feel have a higher standard for sending them into harms way and keeping them there than some other people.
I just think we are facing so many more imminent and urgent problems....that it's hard to see how retroactively "blaming" Dems for changes to gun laws that may or may not affect a tiny minority of the population.....is justified and justifies witholding support for the rest of their platform, to the point where 4 more years of Bush politics looks like a better choice. Nobody is coming to take anyone's guns away. I repeat, no one is coming to take anyone's guns away.
If you mean H.R. 2640... Shrub, a Republican signed that bill into law, including the amendment, and it passed both houses, unanimously in the Senate. That was as much a GOP and a Dem action. And I would take issue with that assessment and the wisdom of that ball.
Hey just for the record I'm OK with disagreeing, I respect your opinion and everyone else here. We all want what's best.

Very true... If you look at Historically... Most Presidents have a hell of a time getting even their high priority stuff enacted in their first year... And the Gun Control aspect of Obama's platform, while mis-understood by many... Is also a Low priority.

As for that $250,000 tax bracket, I fall smack dab in that bracket. If the taxes get stupid, I'll shut down operations and head for the Keys. I'm just about done with the gullability of my fellow Americans. Fitty, you hit the nail on the head with that pic my brother.

The people elected a Democrat, that has a Democratic senate & house.....that is what I am worried about......whatever they want, rubber stamp it.
Yeah I don't like the Combo of a Democratic Congress and a Democratic President, anymore than I liked Rep Congress and Rep President...
In fact I agree most with Jessy Ventura who believes that belonging to a political party should be illegal!
At the very least though the Dem's did not get the 60 seat Veto & philibuster Proof Majority. The existance of which I believe should be legally challenged in the first place.
Ultimately I think it will be short lived, as the Rep's will re-tune their platform for the Mid-Term elections in 2 years.
Just like how I voted against R-Coleman for his hand in the Bailout bill... The same political bullets are loaded against D-Klobuchar.

I'm curious as to where you're getting this info?
There isn't one bit of that happening up here, nor a single shread of it being reported on any of the news agencies that I just flashed through on my lunch break.
Not saying you're lieing at all... But it makes me wonder if it isn't more of a local thing?
So far it's been 3 schools I know of. My secertary's kid is at one and the cops are there (Caladoini) the other is New Hope that is where the older black kids were making the younger kids bow down to them. Thus, older brothers and friends get involved. The other I don't remember where it is but one of the guys that work here had his wife pick up their kid because the black kids were surrounding the weaker white ones and yelling Obama Obama Obama and causing the teachers and cops to get involved.
Yesterday I talked to a salesman I know in Pa and the news about the black panthers blocking the polling station was blacked out. He had no idea and he was in Philly. As this election proves, the media sucks.

On an outdoors note, did anyone see the 86 lb salmon found in Ca. That would have been cool on a fly rod. They found it spawned out and dead, fish and game dept estimated it to have probably been 90+ lbs before it spawned. they were praising the new regulations for salmon fishing allowing it to live a full life. I see 60+ lbs of meat that could have been in somone's freezer.

What happened with the Obama crap yesterday at your school?
Just a few thugs trying to scare some of the younger kids. There were fights at nearly every mixed school yesterday but they were isolated. Our school had one and it was a black guy and a white girl yelling and pushing over the election. The other schools I know of are quiet now. Just 1 or 2 fight here and there. The worst was New Hope, not much of a fight but the older black kids were making the younger ones bow to them or get their asses kicked.
Nothing today so far. Hopefully its over and everyone has their checks for gas and mortgage in the mailboxes as promised.

Okay... So here's another question... Up here if it's Apple and Alcohol, we drop a cinamon stick in it. (Such as our Everclear & Cider "Apple Pie.")
When I asked about it during Apple Pie Pass-The-Bottle... The only explanation I got was that it's the same thing that Budweiser does with Beachwood aging.
So I'm curious if this is a regional thing or if it's done everywhere... Cinamon situation in Ohio?

The second that they declared Obama for Cali, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington simultaneous... That the next scene of Grant Park had bullet proof glass at the head of the Dais... With the camera's positioned inside the glass infront of the podium.

There is no need to add yeast to apple cider. Plenty of yeast in the apples.
There may be no air contact while fermenting. That would allow bacteria to take hold. Hence the airlock.

Yep... That's the same thing I'm talking about...
On the one hand if you add packaged activated yeast... You'll get a slightly faster Alcohol production... BUT... Your Method of "Natural Airborne Yeast" will yeild much more natural flavor.
It's actually the same process that allows all sour dough breads to taste different based on region... And "Fermented Pickles in Crocks."
Even if I used your exact recipe with apples picked locally from here... And we each followed the same steps exactly... Then put a glass of each next to each other... They'd taste a little different from each other.
The same thing makes the difference in taste between San Fransico Sour Dough... And Say Detroit Sour Dough... Or Why New York Bagels are considered superior to all other locations etc...
Nainoa
11-06-2008, 01:25 PM
Well that sucks. What do they base those kinds of forecasts on, I wonder?
Well in the case of ML... They do a Spring/early summer netting survey, and a fall netting survey, that let's them know forage base and year class strengths...
But the problem in ML is still the 2007 Perch Spawn. Every time there's a massive spawn you get "Class Buffering." Where it takes 2 years for the little perch (Walleye's favorite food, and closest relative) to finally grow large enough to not be seen as an easy meal.
2007 was the largest perch spawn in recorded history since they started keeping track in 1983-ish...
And as such last ice season was THE WORST bite seen since they started keeping track in 1983.
So while a chunk of the problem has been cleared out... It's still there...
AND then in the lake's natural cycle, the Walleye population is down... and working on a rebound...
But it's not that down... ML has just moved from 3rd in the nation in Walleye per acre to 5th!
The fish are there... You drop a camera down in all the right locations and all you see is Walleye CHOWING on clouds of small perch...
Put your minnow down, and they're just too over fed to want to give a damn.
*****
So this year we're debating between Alexander and Minnewaska...
Alexander... I know I can put us on fish... And there are 2 strong year classes of Walleye that are 14-17 inches... However... I have no connection to ice services there, and no one to watch the house for me... Completely on my own.
Minnewaska...
While it's a decent Walleye lake (#15 in the state) and highly stable... AND managed by perhaps the best lake management association... It is none the less better for Bull Blue Gills, and Slab Crappies... With some Lunker Pike in the mix.
The bigger factor for "Waska" is that my Buddy's Dad Retired to that lake...
He moves around the good lakes in the area... But always wished he had a Fish House sitting right out his front door.
So he basically said "If you move your fish house out here and let me use it during the week days... I'll take care of it for you, and do my best to keep it plowed out.
Drive time wise... For me...
Mille Lacs: 1 hour and 15 minutes
Alexander: 51 minutes

One final HUGE factor is what the weather is like at Ice Up...
If the lake first freezes solid on a windy day, you're ultimately going to have a tougher season... And then if the lake Ices Up on a calm day...
The longer you have green weeds and clear ice, the better the bite will be in on the structure, and the longer it will last... Before you get to February and you have to scratch around out on the main basin.

That's pretty interesting. Sounds like your DNR is on top of it there, with all the net surveys and such, that sound like a well managed operation.Totally different ballgame than saltwater in a lot of ways, and just like saltwater in a lot of ways. When there's too much bait around, it almost doesn't matter what you throw at them, they're not interested.
I take it you cant net or use small perch as bait?

There is no need to add yeast to apple cider. Plenty of yeast in the apples.
There may be no air contact while fermenting. That would allow bacteria to take hold. Hence the airlock.
I know that, but using the champagne yeast makes it all fizzy and **** for lack of the correct term, lol!! :p Definitely use an airlock or you'll have some REALLY good cider vinegar! Been there, done that. That's the way I was taught to do it, I'll throw a barrel on your way for my dad. ;)

Wow... yeah... That's a lot more of a mixed bag than I'm used to seeing... In land waters are a lot more predictable than the ocean, from what I've gathered...
Yeah our DNR is one of the most progressive in the country... Kind of has to be, as our Angling, along with Agriculture is the basic backbone of the state.
I mean the entire country is going down hill.. But we're going down hill slower than almost all, simply thanks to the revenue generated by recreational, commerical and consumtion use of our natural resources... And it's managed so well as to creat a Surplus in almost all populations.
We even have a college up in Ely... Bigger than your average technical or community college... All they teach is Ecological science... For the upper midwest.
There are swiss finishing schools that are easier to get into than it's ecological sciences program, and placement programs for the best students always starts in Minnesota and branches out from there to our neighboring states.
****
Yeah no game fish can be used as bait...
Now there are some places up north where guys with breeding tanks have gotten bored... And they've cross bred minnows to have the same stripes as perch fry... But the closest one that I know of is still like a 2 hour drive, half ass the wrong way from any lake that I know well.
Someday we're going to get you up here to for an ice fishing season...
Hell I'd love to get the whole damn Ramble up here for an ice fishing 3 day weekend, so you all could get a the surreal experience of living on the ice, floating 30 feet above the bottom a lake, 6 miles from anything called shore, 3 degrees out, and having a blast.

LOL!
For this one we'd rent some deluxe houses on ML... Out of Lybacks or Appledoorns, where basically you just drive out to something that feels like a real cabin with a holes in the floor, and bathrooms... And then there are shower houses back at shore...
As I've learned... There are some Minnesotans who can't handle the rugged living on the ice with just a bucket for a bathroom and a wood stove in a hardened camper... Let alone guys coming from sunshine states.
*Probably have to give you guys hand warmers and a hot water bottle to make it from the terminal door to the curb side truck!

But it's still in the High 40's here.
What's going to happen though... Anytime there's a strong Snow pack West-Southwest of us, it drops our temps down...
Westerlies blow over that snow pack and cool down... Then blow over us, and draw out our ground heat.

Mornin ramblers, started raining here in Missisippi. Can't hunt or fish. Looks like I'll mount the two bass I have left in the freezer and get ready for the deer to come in.
Anyone got any ideas for a cool base for a largemouth or spott bass? I'm wanting something clean, differernt, but cool. I'm going to do a pedistal mount, which means no seam, so I can put in on a table or shelf or something. I have Ideas of what I want to do, just want to see if you guys have an idea that would expand my thinking a little.

Don't think it's the idea you're looking for... But the coolest mount I've ever seen is of a Musky swimming up under a piece of Drift wood, to grab a baby duck. All suspended by what looked like Flourocarbon, from the drift wood log.
It's not unheard of for a large bass to eat a baby duck.

I think we all do. Whenever the office has to go out and help the shop do something physical there is always cells, ipods, watchers and the paper pick up person while the shop guys are still doing the work with one person from the office helping and 5 standing around playing pocket pool. 100% of the time the laziest person in the group will have an important phone call that will consume the entire length of time work is being done. It is typically their first and only time during the day they have needed the phone.

Been there done that too many times bro. It's bad everywhere, esp in the military. Anytime we'd need to load/unload conexes or pack and put away equipment we'd have 30+ people in the motor pool but only 3-5 of us were doing any actual work.

Yeah it was kind of ridiculous... I don't mind doing the lion share of the work... One of the Many reasons I transformed myself into the 2 legged Moose I am today is so when stuff like this comes up in life I can haul ass at it.
I don't even mind that it took 3 other people to equal what I was doing... The only thing that really pissed me off was the people who were "Trying to look productive" and then pretty much just got in the way and slowed me down while they neatly balled up the tape, or changed the razor in their knife after every 5 boxes opened.
But hey, they bought my chinese food for lunch... I still had to go pick it up, because the roads have some sleet and ice on them... And while everyone else fears slipping around... I love the fact that it gives me an excuse to use 4 wheel drive!

That may have been how it rolled for Greenfeather. Maybe he got unlucky and I got lucky. But then, he's been with his girl for 23 yrs so he's been out of circulation awhile? Perhaps? I dont know, but for me the perpetual bachelor I've had good and bad with big and small and there's no real correlation.
However, when I think back to when we he and I were in our 20s, boobjobs werent like they are now, as easy and common as getting pierced ears. Back then a woman was something special if she a big rack. There was rarely a question of real or fake. She was special. So, she didn't have to try so hard and never developed skillz or personality because she didnt have to. Why would she? If you didnt like it, all it took was a tight sweater and an errand to run and she'd have another guy chasin after her. She may have been a bore, but with every guy leering at her everywhere you go, you couldnt contemplate dumping her without thinking you'd just be kicking yourself the next week. You just couldnt. Hey, it feels good to be with the girl all the guys want. They dont have to know she's lousy in bed.
But things changed. As we entered the Internet age and people went online, they got bombarded with sexual imagery whether intentionally or not; dabbling in Internet porn was like a cyber right of passage at some point. The decency bar got lowered. The threshold for sexy got raised. Big boob girls no longer enjoyed the priviledge of being exclusive, of being rare - just by virtue of having big boobs.
During the same time, all the stigmas and financial hurdles toward plastic surgery fell away. Any girl who could make something smaller than a typical car payment could have big boobs. And so they're a dime a dozen now. The net effect is that it's just not special anymore to have big boobs, and hasn't been for awhile. There's no reason to stay with a girl just cause she looks great with her big rack. So I think that's why some guys may find that boob size doesn't reveal much about the girl's skills.
What does? Now that's some food for thought....

Jointing some Quality Cut Sierra Pine 2X4" into 2" thick by 24" X 36" boards... Then build a box out of them, Sand and stain... And make it into a utility cabinet to keep my boat batteries and stash my ice fishing gear, "Out of the way, but still upstairs."
Once I'm comfortable with having shaken my rust off... I'm going to bring my wife's coffee table back to life. (It was veneered crappy particle board on a metal frame.) So I'm going to bring it back to life with some artistic wood working flare.
By this point I think I'll have my skills dialed back in-full...
So I'm going to turn towards building that custom picnic table and chairs... (I'm thinking I'm going to go with a nice cedar)
Once I have the picnic table finished... I'm going to put it upstairs and take the kitchen table down to my dungeon woodshop.
There's nothing wrong with the solid oak kitchen table, other than the fact that the finish is fracked to high hell, with little scratches and the odd cloud or fade.
So I figure we can live off the nice picnic table for a while, and I can take my time sanding and refinishing the oak table.
Right about this point the snow should be melting...
******
And then in the "See what happens category" I'm going to try to put together a couple of dinner parties...
There are actually a lot of people I know these days who are complaining about how they need a picnic table, or some lawn furniture etc...
So set them down over a nice meal and see if they'd be interested in hiring me to build them a picnic table!
*****
Then in my down time this spring... I'm going to build an outdoor arbor, with trellis and removeable screen frames.

Damn...
Lump Charcoal is kind of hard to come by up here, as is fruit woods...
At least that's how it used to be... Now if you keep a keen eye out for it you can find both.
Wife brought home a bag of Lump Hickory... So I grilled up some chicken wings, despite the freezing rain (Carhart Exclusive Rain Jacket FTW!)
Holy ****... Forgot just how much flavor Lump imparts...
I mean how in the sweet fracking hell am I going to go back to regular charcoal briquettes.

I've come to understand that in the storms of life that first storm comes to prepare you for the true challenges of the second.
We should never fear disaster... Because it's that "Come Back" where you learn the skills to take you to the next level.
The Great Spirit is always trying to make us stronger... Always encouraging us to take the next step on our personal path of power. Because in the end, he who has done the hard work to earn the command of his own destiny, is never a victim to the Devil in the Details.... For he has broken the chains of a normal life to live "Truly free."

I couldn't get myself added to any hunting partys this fall... At least none yet, with only 1 weekend to go. (Only so many beds, and not being "In the family" puts me last on all lists.)
However... Almost everyone I know who got a deer, needs help processing it, as they're processessing themselves...
So last night my phone was ringing and people were stopping in Asking "What are you doing next weekend? Wanna help me butcher, and I'll give you some meat?"

So last night was chest-tri day... and wouldn't you know it... Another semi came in for Super-B*tch's big holiday company store program...
I unloaded 10 pallets on Friday for her because she was too busy at home watching the Oprah Replay...
Another truck today... 11 Pallets of camp chairs this time... No Lift gate on the truck... Again she's gone... I'm left with my Boss... Who took 5 breaks in 2 hours... The Accountant, who's a 50 year old stick figure pencil pusher... The secretary and the 105 pound intern.
No problem... I just hit it as hard as I possibly could...
Super-B*tch shows up half way through pallet #10 of 11... And starts telling me how I should unload them for her, so it will be easier for her to grab... "Uh Project has been going along for an hour now just fine... Maybe it's you that needs to get with the program, instead of the program adjusting to you!"
We get it all done... And I'm soaked to the goddam bone with sweat, despite the fact that it's 26 degrees outside.
Arms are throbbing and numb... Elbows ache... But I'm feeling good...
And what does she say... Well she did say thank you... Which she didn't after the first truck... But then she follows it up with "In a Way... You guys should be thankful that I get this big order... I keep the lights on here!"
This is the same woman who I have to clean up 70% of her paperwork on a daily basis...
*****
Hmmm... I wonder what will happen when this next truck comes in, with 21 pallets on it, and she has to unload it all by herself, while I stand at the back door flicking the light switch and giggling!

no deer this weekend. Brought my 5 year old like I promised her. Let her walk around the woods and find us a good spot. We sat down, she got in my lap to be warm and fell asleep. I had to carry her and my rifle out. She told everyone she saw she got to go huntin' with daddy. Didn't see anything but she had a good time. That counted most. I was afraid to see one, I know I would have shot and that would have been a hell of a way to wake up a 5 year old girl.

When it comes to introducing children... And adults really... To the great outdoors, that it's more about them having a good time and learning than it is about my success.
I figure you've got thousands of opportunities to kill a deer... Only a handful of chances to introduce a kid to the outdoors and instill them with the passion to want to learn more.

Not really... We always have monster herds...
Chippewa National Forest allows the herds to live as they're intended to, without all the pressures human civilization stressing them out... And our DNR is one of the best in the nation at population management.
There's also Another Powerful herd West of Brainerd.. And another one in the South East...
But those are all Shot Gun Regions...
Up around the Chippewa Herds, it's Rifle.

you guys can keep the snow and ice. I like it when I bitch about the high 30's. Its supposed to rain all week again then get colder. Cold would not be too bad right now but the wind will lay down the deer so its worthless to just sit in the tree and sleep. I could have my phd by now if I would have spent the idle time in the treestand more useful.
I posted a link to a couple of things. the bass is odd marked, kinda like a yellow pearch. One side only, the other side is fine.
The other pic is a shadow box I've had to do. It had a black crappie, white crappie, bluegill. the reels are all 1950 era with the newest one a 53 Shakespere. The lures are also antiques, I don't have any info on them other than they are heavy and old.

For me to skin mount a striper is $7.50 per inch. and put on a driftwood or something.
A reproduction is more expensive. I haven't done one but they usually go between $10 and $13 per inch.

Repros are perfect as long as the guy painting them knows what they are doing. No fin seperation or shrunken spots. I don't have my catalog that has some in them but its good to stay with Arp reproductions. go to Wasco website and run a search for reproductions and find the striper size you want. they are fiberglass casts of real fish and even have good mouth detail and gill raker inserts and stuff. Some guys are sick at reproduction. I've not had the call for any right here. People that bring me fish want their own fish so I do a skin mount. I'll probably do a couple during the winter between deer heads hopefully.

That's so pathetic it's hard to know whether he was a) flame baiting, or, b) so clueless he'd thought he'd get sympathetic responses from like-minded posters.

I am gonna wait, in stealth mode, building up my neg power. I've set up a reminder in Outlook....then, months from now, when he's forgotten all about this post and is posting some LOLcat or something, I am going to come down from the sky in a red deluge. The Mods, even the hardened ones, will look at the carnage, shake their heads, and say "what kind of human being does this to another poster? wtf!"
You might call it an IND: Improvised Negging Device.

Best wishes for your MIL
I know that there is a Winchester 9mm model 36 shot gun, USA patented Aug 29, 1899
Meriden model 15, 22 short/long rifle, Pat May 28, 1912
Several others Remington, Jostam MFG, Norinco, Hopkins & Allen, Russell arm co,
Yea, I would be interested in the little 9 mm shotgun. I even have a couple of shells for it already. Wouldn't shoot it though.
The way I read it earlier, I thought your FIL had recently passed away. I wish my wife and MIL would go ahead and get her arrangements ready. My wife thinks it would be morbid.

I don't think it's morbid in the least... If your MIL dies without a will, and there isn't a single clear Executor... Then the estate automattically goes to probate court...
Which for one blows donkey cock, because it's sure to start family in-fighting in some way or another.
But the thing that really would matter most to MiL is that once it hit's probate... Then all of a sudden the state is taking little pieces of her estate... To cover legal fees, and inquest fees... And whatever other little bull**** "Dinkity Fees" they can extract from the estate she spent her life building.
It's best to set it all in order, to preserve what you leave behind... And also to let that passing not be a drawn out wound of loss...
Makes it a whole lot easier, when that inevitable day comes to lay her to rest with the honor she deserves, and the peace of mind she left behind for her loved ones.
******
I'm very glad my parents did it... Granted they did put me through some morbid conversations... Especially the one where my "Around the Bend" Mother wanted a clause that I'm the one who pulls the plug out of the wall on the life support machines... And then to "Save some money... Just shove me in a sack and toss me in the river."
So we had to explain to her that it's just turning off machines... No Melodramatic yanking the cords out of the wall like a Vaccum cleaner that's gone too far across the room. And that it's actually Illegal to just toss dead bodys in the river.
The look on the attorney's face when she told him all that must have been PRICELESS!

My MIL has a will...it all goes to my wife. But, she doesn't have much, just a small run down house and a small amount of cash. I have tried to get my wife to get my MIL to go to the funeral home, pick out everything, and pay for the funeral ahead of time. Then she (MIL) can spend whatever she has left on whatever she wants. The house will be a problem...my wife wants to keep it, not rent it, blah, blah, blah. Oh well, I do have my gym in her basement.
Mom and Dad are just the opposite. Dad said the only thing left for us (8 kids) to do is decide if we want to order pizza to be delivered to the funeral home. :D I'm almost ready to make my arrangements...we don't have kids to make the decisions for us.

EVERYONE NEEDS A WILL!!! If you have anything worth anything, IT NEEDS TO BE ACCOUNTED FOR!! If you have someone in your life that you give a **** about, then you need to have your estate directed to where YOU want it, not some fukn douchenozzle judge.

Strong advice... I used my company's EAP (worthless besides that) to get a living will in place. Need to protect my son.

Not so much in the Australian term but I did spend time with lots of relatives I had never met before. All in all I covered 9 states. I learned a lot about myself, my parents, family history etc. Some of these people were just hilarious. I would mention a story I had heard about someone and they would say something like along the line of, well now I will tell you the real story.

Yeah that's sounds like a Walk About to me...
Any extended journey outside of your comfort zone for the purpose of personal growth = Walk About to me...
The fact that you didn't choke out a Kangaroo MMA style, doesn't diminish the experience... Though a quick stop at a Zoo's Marsupial exhibit to finish one off, would have probably enhanced the experience!

Mornin ramblers, got some good news for me yesterday. A bigger taxidermist in Columbus just contracted me for his fish. We have talked on and off about doing them but nothing ever final. He just got hit with a bunch of deer to process so he gave me 8 customer bass and one big redfish at my price to do. I'll post pics in here as I finish them up. I'm getting them 3 at a time for now. I pick up 3 + deposit, go finish them (2-3 weeks) drop them off, get $ then pick up the next 3. And so forth. If it works out good I'll probably get all his fish and all he will do is turn them over. His prices are a little higher than mine and he hates to do them. Don't bother me, I put on some rubber gloves, turn the stereo up and have at it. No blood, guts, or mess. Just a little smell that is off of me when I take the gloves off. I only expect to get about 20-25 whitetails in for some reason. Eventhough its Mississippi and a guy will miss his light bill to get his deer out of the taxidermist. I think it might be slow.
