Nice looking fish. I grew up in Yugoslavia and we had them but not as big as you guys get there. They are from the pike family right?
So are you going to be trolling or casting?
yup they're just a little more aggressive than northern pike. I'm going to do a day of each. I'm going to mount anything i catch within keeping size. I've talked to a ton of people where i work (dick's sporting goods) who have fished for them a lot and never caught any. i'll be excited for anything

for my musky adventure this coming weekend i bought some gear:
Surface water buzzer, bucktail spinner, the bigger crankbait dives 2-3 ft, the smaller goes 4-7ft, the leader is an 80lb titanium
Reel is an amabassadeur 6000 and the line is 30lb test berkley fireline. I'm going to leave a few yards of myo line still on it so it doesn't spin on the reel.
Ive already got gloves, a net, and long pliers. besides that and what's in the pic can you think of anything else?
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f260/bcurtis0005/DSCF1208.jpg
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f260/bcurtis0005/DSCF1209.jpg
I have the same reel... So you're good there...
Your spinners are a little on the small side... But if you burn them hot enough and "Bubble" you'll be okay.
My biggest concern would be that you're a little undergunned on the line, and possibly the leader...
You're going to have to set your drag on the light side, and if/when one hits it's going to be a marathon...
Basically any fish, has a maximum striking force of twice it's weight... Meaning if a 30 pound musky strikes your line from any angle other than a follow (The most common approach) it has the ability to snap your line, unless your drag is set light.
****
Also... You'll want a bolt cutter...
Now if you've got a BBer's grip... A regular bolt cutter is okay... But basically if you don't think you have the grip to say catch a muskrat by the chest and squeeze it to death... Then buy/borrow a compound bolt cutter...
Then when you get the Musky... Rather than Rip his hard face to shreads, and possibly fatally maim a 30 year old fish... You simply take the bolt cutters and cut your book flush with the flesh of the mouth/lip...
Don't worry... It will throw the barb within 2 weeks, and still be able to feed...
Which isn't something you're guaranteed if you just start ripping around with the giant hook in his mouth.
You also might want to bring a compound jaw spreader.
And of course... Going Musky Fishing without a top end First Aid kit complete with a hook puller, is about as smart as visiting a Whore House named "Itchy and Scratchies" and leaving the condoms at home because the ample scabs and puss is all the protection you need!
****
Final piece of equipment... Safety grade sun glasses... Fishing is actually the #1 cause of eye injury, in sports. (Recently surpassing basketball.)
Nothing like snagging a bullrush... Jerking... having it come free, and at high velocity the triple trebble hooked 4 ounce hell master bucktail is locked in and rocketing at your face!
(Yes I met a guy... You should be afraid!)
:D

Mother nature put it there for you to enjoy... Not to keep, just to stroke some white man's vanity.

Cool post I enjoyed the write up and pics. Hawaii is a place I really want to go to one day... hell I wouldn't mind owning a house or a condo there.
Yeah you can't go condo...
Gotta go with a private house somewhere...
North shore of Kaua'i in the winter time gets 60 foot waves crashing the cliffs... I think I'd have to go there.
Google Hanalei Bay, and look at the pics...
I think I could handle that sun set every day!

I asked StlBarbie to marry me Thursday night!
She said: YES!
I asked by the lake at night with the stars out. Small table at end of dock with candels, roses and champane.
Candles leading out to the end as well.
I even changed in to a shirt and tie :)
The stars, the geese, fish popin at the waters surface. Half moon rising.
It was perfect!

Hello guys, it's been a while since I've posted in here but I've been busy working. Hunting season is on the way and I just put three stands in the field last weekend. We leased another 80 acres this year in Brown county Illinois in addition to the other 40 acres already there.
I also have access to 40 acres in Greene county and I'll also hunt in JEPC (Jim Edgar Pather Creek State Park). Looking forward to reporting in with some hunting success and more than likely a few misses.

Frack that...
You catch a Musky and keep that thing to mount it and mark my words a couple of years from now you'll regret it.
You want a trophy... Get a Lax made...
Honestly... A trophy Musky could very easily be older than you are...
What the Frack gives you the right to take something that was killing for a living while you filling your diapers with black and gree baby mess...
You catch a Frackin' Musky... You put that thing back...
Keeping a Musky is like ****ting in the river that people drink from...

Frack with the spirits of nature and eventually the spirits of nature decide to boot you in the nuts... And trust me... It's boot is bigger than yours!
so: take a **** load of pictures if i catch one and throw him back.
those spinners are about 8/9" they're pretty dang big i couldn't find any bigger ones.
50/60lb test line? should it be myofil or not?
and what kind of hook removal kit should i look for? i dont want to get out there and have a strong fish with massive teeth and be unprepared.

Yeah take a picture of every side... Measure his length (With the tail pinched) and then wrap a tape around the thickest part of the belly, and record the number.
Then google "Lax replicas" for your area.
Yeah other than Cave Run Lake Musky isn't a highly fished species in KY. (The winter temps barely get cold enough for them to become gravid.)
If you're looking for a good strong super line that won't be a chain... I use Spiderwire Stealth 55 pounds on my burning rod, and 65 on my trolling rod.
Hook removal kit, I got I bought in the sporting goods section of Walmart for $10.99... Full kit, with all kinds of First Aid stuff, waterproof box specifically for anglers.
But really... Your big one is a bolt cutter (Compound if you can afford it/borrow it... Usually around $45 for a Good Compound) I've got enough grip strength that I can use a non-compound in one hand to pop a hook... But I make sure to say "By the Power of Greyskull" first!
The most important thing about that bolt cutter is your great backup plan for that moment when you go to unhook the fish... It thrashes and the other hook catches your hand... Now you and your hand are connected to a 40 pound razor toothed murder fish, by a series of razor sharp hooks...
That's an "Oh ****" moment where I don't want to skimp on the hardware to free me as fast as possible!
;)

so this weekend we ended up with 50lbs of meat, we cought red snapper, lane snapper mostly, then some reds and a blacktip on the deep sea charter.
but the weirdest thing was when we were fishing in the bays we were getting snapper, it was blowing my mind, i guess things are still messed up from the hurricane
oh and one of my reds were bigger than the shark.

Yeah I hear ya...
For two weeks now there have been all kinds of tech problems here at work...
I keep telling them... It's this... It's that... It's the Modem...
Come on guys it's not hard to figure out.
So yesterday everything that I've been telling them would go wrong, finally **** on itself.
And the POS office manager has the audacity to say to me "It just did it... Like we had no warning... Hey Nainoa, Can you give me a hand?"
So I went home and finished work from my home lab, which I maintain myself... Not because I'm some tech genius... But because I pro-actively take care of problems as I see them about to happen.
I'm getting really sick of "Management by head in the sand" attitude that passes muster.

Yeah I'm actually starting to get a little worried...
I should be busting my ass at the begining of the busy season...
Instead I'm just a tad bit busier than I was during the slow season.
At this rate without my Big Fall Build up and comission... I don't know that I can afford to put the Fish House so far from home this winter.
Might have to park it pedantically close to hom this year, just to save the gas.

I don't have a job.
Just mountains of hw.
edit: anybody going to the range this weekend? I am... need some stress relief.
Which reminds me, I was talking to this girl I'm friends with, who knows I shoot, and I said "yeah I just wanna hit the range and clear my head/relieve some stress." And she says "you use shooting for stress relief? That's kind of scary!" lol....
Some people don't understand how mind-clearing outdoor activity/outdoor work can be. Getting sweaty out in the sun, concentrating on that bulls eye, etc. One of my favorite activities is lopping down limbs and banana trees with a good machete when they need trimming lol. Though Ike took out all my nanner trees back home :(

Yeah I'm always amazed by the number of urban pecker heads living behind what I call "The Suburban Reality Shield" (prime example the R&P)... Who completely fail to realize just how much bull**** they've wrapped around their lives.
Then you take them out into the great forests of the world for a week... Set them down in front of a fire, roasting meat over it... Put a knife in their hand, and make them work for the concerns of their every day real life...
And suddenly their world focus cracks, and they bloom.
*****
People don't get it when I refer to "The Wilderness" as "The Real World."
They think that pounding the pavement and having regurgitated conversations about what they saw on Cable News, while swiping a credit card for a FIVE DOLLAR COFFEE, is "The Real World."
I think that it's not until you jam your knife into something's guts, that you have no clue what it takes to put warm food in your belly.
(And I've never even killed a deer!)

I'm not saying "Kill" I'm saying "Clean and prep."
Kill is a skill in and of itself, one that currently escapes my means.
*****
I'm saying that there are a lot of guys pounding the pavement, who've never even seen a butchered animal... And they're the same people walking around who think they know something about the world... That some **** they saw on Discovery Channel, or read in a college text book, makes them so much smarter than than the butcher who cuts their steaks, or the hunter who sells them some venison jerky at his road side shop.
******
As a guy who's worked his way up through dirty jobs to a "Clean" life... I think everyone should spend a day, or one experience, doing the job of the man who provides something to him.
Because really... I think there's a lot of City Kitty pecker heads, who are holier than thou, who would change their tune if they had to get sewage under their finger nails on Monday, A splinter from the lumber yard in their hand on Tuesday, and blood all over their shoes on Wednesday, got a sun burn from shingling his own roof on Thursday, and picked strawberrys hunched over for 14 hours with a bunch of Mexicans on Friday.
^^^^I think if every single person did that... I think we'd all have a better appreciation for what we do for each other... And maybe, we'd all make a little more effort to "Be my Brother's Keeper."

So many things would be better if people had to do things themselves. The current society suffers from equal servings of the rich who pay someone else to do their dirty work and the lazy who somehow feel entitled to have the social system pay for someone else to do their dirty work.

Like I was talking about in another thread...
I grew up poor... But my parents put me through an upper class school...
And one thing I learned seeing both sides of the coin is that there are Lazy Losers at every level of society, in about equal amounts...
I mean how many Rich people's kids are just living in their parents basement, driving Daddy's Car and dropping everything on a credit card.
It's just that the upper class hide their Lazy better because they have the means to!

And I'm also with you on your idea of making everyone do some gritty, exhausting manual labor for a time in their life. I'm college educated, but I went back as an adult student. My years out of high school were spent in manual trades and busting my rear in a bunch of construction jobs and other service professions (restaurants mostly). I learned the value of hard work and the importance of a dollar.
When I went back to school to get my degree, I paid my own way 100% and invested all my efforts to excel in my studies to get the most out of them. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA from a very respected school - I doubt I would have had the same success had I not learned what hard work was, or what awaited me should I not succeed in a white collar profession.
If I ever have kids, the only way I'll pay their college is if they first work a year or two doing manual labor and paying their own bills - then they will appreciate a lot more the value of a good education and will have learned some work ethics that will serve them well in the corporate environment.

Haha, good job on the degree man. I've heard going back to school after having a regular job for years is one of the hardest things a person can make themselves do.
I'm glad I decided to go ahead and just do it right after high school, but I have to admit I'm not as dedicated as I could/should be. I'm just trying to maintain a 3.0 (aerospace engineering btw). On the topic of kids, work ethic and college...
One thing my Mother did with me...
I worked a lot of odd jobs, that she found for me... Mowing, walking dogs, digging ditches, working in my uncles Honey rendering factory.
One thing she did which pissed me off at the time... She took half my wages...
Then invested them in CD's which she just kept rolling over into another CD's... Until it all piled up...
Then when I went to school... She transferred the CD's to my name, which helped a lot.... And I only had to take out a little bit in loans.
So basically I traded a lot of work in my youth for my college education.
(9 years now in this field, as stagnant as it's become... I'd say it's a return on the investment.)
****
The other thing my parents did...
Each year on my birthday I got a new Piggy Bank... And for every penny I put in, they matched it...
If I put a Quarter of my tooth fairy money in... They put a Quarter in...
And then every year I got to crack it open, and buy whatever with it.

My parents paid for my college but they made me work over the summers.
I've done everything from cleaning fish tanks every day at a pet store (gross) stocking 40 lb bags of dog food/cat litter at target (4am-12 shift, sucked) to waiting tables lol.
Target was probably the worst because they'd make you get inside the big 18 wheeler trailer and unload it onto a path of rollers. Each truck had 1,500+ items on it which are unloaded manually, and there is no AC in that trailer. Usually between me and 1 other guy we could do it in 4-6 hours. You'd lose a good 10 lbs of sweat every day.
I'm not saying I had it "hard" but thinking back to those times definitely makes me not want to be in the unskilled labor industry.

See now if you're pulling straight A's... That's one thing...
In my case my parents paid for my books... All my other stuff had to come out of my own pocket. (Including remodeling the crappy old house)
So I still had to work full time, while going to school more than full time (I actually got 3 years worth of credits done in 2, while still being president of my program.)
You definitely take it more seriously when you've got some ball busting life experience to back you up... And especially when you've got your ass on the line.
******
Now if you've got a free ride... That's all fine and good... But a little bit you owe it to your parents to go balls to the wall, with this advantage... But more importantly, you owe it to yourself as the man you're becoming to make the most of this advantage.
I've learned through a lot of BRUTAL failures, that it's not the stuff you fail at that haunts you... It's all the times you chose the easy cowardly path, that you wish you would have applied yourself to.

I got all A's last semester! Well, in my 4 engineering classes. I got a B in gov. wtf??
The first year at college was sort of a shock to me I didn't know wtf I was doing, and poor initial GPA ensued. Been working on getting it back up ever since.
edit: I think my initial sucking was due to high school being mega easy for me. I was in all AP/honors classes and pulled like a 3.9 unweighted without really working hard at all, which still only got me 37/550 in my class, but oh well. I came into college with 15 AP credit hours thinking it was going to be a breeze, same as high school, and, well, it wasn't, at all. No brag, I'm just saying, HS didn't prepare me at all for engineering. I got 1 A, a few B's, and the reset C's and D's my first two semesters :(

Now THAT I can relate to. I hate group projects for that reason. I always try to be as fair as possible, and expect people to be fair to me in return. But in a group of 4 you always end up with that 1 guy who always has an excuse why he can't come to the meeting, that 1 guy who is too dumb to help anyway, and that 1 chick at least shows up, but spends 80% of her time texting.
When you assign portions of the project to be done at home and only your 1/4 is done at the next meeting.... ugh.

I just caught up on some of my billing paperwork... The "Incentive" deal currently in place for me is that for every $10 I bill out I get 7 cents added to my pay check (Pre-tax).
And I can't believe I Just signed out a bill for $25, slid it in the out box and thought to myself "Hey-Now there's a cool 17 cents!"
******
WTF?
How did I live a dynamic life of challenges and personal growth, to climb up the long ladder of life... Just to be a goddam Rat in a cage, excitedly fighting for little pieces of cheese!

You done any scouting? Or do you just have those "honey holes" that you keep going back to? We got a BIG 9 or 10 on film earlier this year, so at least I know a good one is around somewhere. That makes the hunt more exciting to me.....just thinking.....any second that big mofo is gonna bust in here..lol.

 If it wasn't for my best friend I wouldn't have anything but public land to hunt. He and his brothers inherited about 425 acres. I have hunted there since I was 15. Back in the old days, his dad used to raise pigs.....he would have 4 big corn fields planted for them. There were so many big deer there it was unbelievable. Now that are just pastures....the deer aren't as plentiful, but there are still several there.

Getting away from the crowd FTW. There is some very good hunting to be had on public land when you find places like that. Pressured deer go to places where they aren't pressured.

Yeah, we have some food plots out.....turnip greens, clover. We didn't put anything like Biologic out this year. The biggest problem is money. It costs so much money to put them out. His dad had to plant the corn for the pigs, so he had to invest the money. (when deer don't have any browse or acorns) IMO deer prefer corn over anything....soybeans a close second.

Some type of greenage plot, planted for deer. IE, Biologic, turnip greens, winter wheat. Not considered baiting here in TN. Putting out corn would be considered baiting though, but you can hunt a picked corn field.

See, I've never seen it in MN... But I have back in my traveling days seen it in other states. (Might be illegal in MN, I couldn't find anything in the glossary of the Hunting Regs Book.)
But basically you take a clearing in the land you're hunting... And you plant a bunch of Deer Favored forage in the spring. Has to have good drainage, and be able to handle it etc... Because obviously you don't want to have a big presence there, nor do you want to irrigate.
If you chose wisely, it's already on a game trail... So through the course of a summer the deer forage there... They get accustomed to checking for forage there... And it creates a more predictable pattern.
****
In MN you can put out corn and salt during the spring and summer... But once you reach the fall you have to pull it... That's all I know about our baiting regs.

What about beets?
Based on the entire goddam MASSIVE deer herd of North Dakota, Deer Love Beet greens... And Beet seeds are DIRT CHEAP...
Not to mention, the way Beets reseed themselves from their greens... You'd probably only need to do one big planting... And them maybe some upkeep sowing each spring, based on how much the deer chowed the year before.
And Beets are very hardy and handle the cold well.

My boss hunts No Dak (He turned down my last raise so he could buy 80 acres of hunting land with company money.) But up there you get a lot of deer living on the fringe of forest and beet fields (ND is CRAZY with Beet Fields.)
Beet fed Venison has a little bit of a different "Lilt" to it... It must be the beets high sugar content that adds a sort of succulent sweetness to the meat.
******
The only problem you're going to run into if you tried to food plot beets, would be that the first year you'd have to till... So your first generation would get a strong starter base... Which would allow it to re-seed strong, and early... Which would then save you more full plantings in the future.
*****
AND... You should be able to pull some beets through out the year for the kitchen table!

ahahaha...seriously?
Yeah...
Probably the one two that make us laugh the most...
#1. We only had a bow saw and a hatchet... Went to go cut down a tree that was... Well... A little big for our britches...
We got 2/3 of the way through it, and it fell on it's own... The wrong way across this guys driveway.
All of a sudden the lights come on in his garage. (The house was dark, but he must have been awake and working in the garage.)
So we took off just leaving the tree...
Guy tried to come after us with his old chevy...
Tall ass snowbanks from the recent snow storm... So he tried to go through the tree... Got hung up, and must have spun branches around his axels or something...
When we went to look the next day (In my car, so he wouldn't recognize Marlon's truck)... The guy's truck was still hung up in his drive way, and he was trying to cut it free.
(So thank God the tree did fall the wrong way... Road block FTW!)
#2. Another year we went out... I found a tree that was really awesome... But it was too tall to take the whole thing.
Marlon said "Just cut it from the trunk like 4 feet up, and we'll just take the top half, and prune away the base."
So that's what we did.
(Sap EVERYWHERE in my living room that Christmas!) :D
But we ended up leaving behind this remnant... 4 foot tall of awkward ass branches looking pine stump, right in this guys front yard, outside his living room window.
It was still there the next spring...
Must have just drove him nuts every day to look out the window at that ugly pine bush thing, that "Those Damn Kids" did!

Frack No... That's why the check box exists on applications (For Application Jobs) that says "May we contact your employer."
My buddy went looking for a better job close to home... Applied for it, they contacted his work... They fired him the next day and then he didn't get the new job he applied for.

Now if you're talking "Ethically."
Depends... If you signed a loyalty Oath... Or a Non-Compete, and you're being treated fairly, paid competitively... And you're just bored with what you're doing... Then I'd say there's a little bit of an ethics quandry.
But if you're getting treated like ****, and being courted by a competitor.
It's up to your boss/board/management to keep it's employees fairly compensated, to "Take Care of the Team."
If they're not interested in "Taking care of the Team" and only looking out for themselves...
Frack them... Ethically you have the right to not accept being treated like a slave.

Both very good answers. Unfortunately in my job I see the wall that I am going to hit vastly approaching. I work at a 4th tier University and I provide a fee for service type deal. Well, being at a 4th tier institution the investigators or Ph.D's do not have a lot of money and cannot use my fee for service type deal. Somedays I spend all day searching the internet i.e. here, softball websites, checking my email approximately 2500x per day, softballfans.com and various other websites.
What makes matters worse is the fact that my graduate advisor (who also doesn't have a ton of money) is holding my research back (the project that I worked on in grad school) and is not trying to get it published because A. he is a loser and B. he doesn't have enough money to get it published. I would really love to go and kick his focking ass. I know that is not the right thing to do, but it would be a guilty pleasure.
I would like to go into sales, but nobody is willing to hire someone with no sales experience but tons of knowledge about what their product does i.e what a drug would do on the molecular level. I could explain it but have no sales experience.

Well right now you'd be better off changing your career to Monkey Trainer than going into sales.
I'm in part time sales... I get a lot of inside information on what's happening with the economy...
Nothing "Sales" is good right now... And even the few marginal things that are good (Like the home spice and seasoning industry) the sales forces that are in place are looking to trim the fat, not hire new guys... (Even ones with tons of experience.)
Right now is a good time to stand pat and hope things turn around.
Right now I'm so fracking infuriated with my job that I want to climb up in a bell tower with a high powered rifle and thin out the herd...

Sort of OT but I need some suggestions.
I am in a fluids lab in which our final project/lab is to design/build something to test in a wind tunnel.
Most people do air planes/space shuttles/golf balls stuff like that, but I want to do something unique.
My first thought was to do the Enterprise from Star Trek TNG, but I really want to do something more out doors related.
I thought Frisbee or boomerang but they can't rotate in the wind tunnel so I wouldn't get realistic flows.
I could do an enlarged bullet model but the flow would be pretty boring and symmetrical. (though does anyone know of some strange bullets that aren't just cones? maybe a cool hollow point?)
Any cool ideas?
Basically anything that can fit in a 1.5 feet long by 8 inches high by 2 feet wide box. Things that are bigger can be scaled down, but would need to be simple enough that I could construct a model without too much time in the machine shop.
edit: here's my masterpiece rendition of how the dimensions are laid out

Well you should take some time for the great outdoors... It teaches you something about yourself to "Unplug."
*****
But really... My Father has made me a student of history and of people...
And I think we live in a time now where the great turning point is being reached...
If we're going to prove that we have the right to be masters of our own destiny... Then our destiny has to be decided by the leaders of people... And not the "Leaders of Politics."
****
We all have to reach deep down and say "I am Sparticus."
****
There's too much "It's the politicians fault... They should do a better job saving us!"
There's too much "It's big Oil's fault... They should do a better job of making sure we have clean energy."
There's too much "It's big corporations fault... They should offer us american products at cheap prices."
There's too much "It's some dot com dork's fault... They should be making the technology to save us!"
I say "Frack that ****." It's our fault... We've lost our way as a people, because we've lost our way as individuals.
If technology created convenience, and convenience allowed us to live in social isolation, and isolation created apathy, and Apathy is at the core of the cancer eating away this once great society... Than how in the sweet fracking hell is technology the answer.
You pour gasoline on a brush pile, toss and match on it, and the fire gets out of control you don't pour more goddam gasoline on it to put it out!
The wound at the heart of this nation, this culture, this society, this political system, is a wound that starts in the human heart.
It's time fixing the world stopped being about figuring out who's goddam fault it is, and instead each of us in our own little way, taking on the responsibility of fixing it.
Agreed.
But, keep in mind that people only change when the pain of the change is less than the pain of non changing.
So far there has not been enough pain to make people change. I still see soccer moms driving expensive SUVs with zero passengers. I still see waste and laziness at my job and whenever I receive services at a restaurant or repair shop. There is still a massive entitlement attitude regarding items once considered luxury. There is still massive personal debt and little reins on spending.
Sad to say, but when people lack the ability (or self will) to discipline themselves, eventually that discipline will be enforced from elsewhere - and it will be a lot more painful to endure.
Be ready - this is the tip of the iceberg.

Now you've probably heard this before...
But I've believe that this situation is just like that tired Nietche saying... "All great things must first wear a terrifying and monsterous mask in order to inscribe themselves on the hearts of humanity."
And I think we're at the "Terrifying and Monsterous Mask" part of the journey.
*****
I've been playing around with a social activism piece recently.
I've been talking about how we need a paradigm shift (In plain folks terms.)
And you're right... A TON of people are completely resistant to the ideas... (Interestingly, the more money they have the less likely the seem to be to willing to make even the slightest change in behavior.)
But the people who are interested in it... The people who are actually interested in giving time, and energy to changing the way they think...
Are the people who have the least.
Which reminds me of something my father said "The world only changes when people with dirt under their fingernails decide it should change... When people with white collars try to change the world, all we get is a redecoration of the same old crap."

Don't have it handy and today's gonna be real busy.
I'm sure if you google some of the terms you'll find a relevant source.
Beyond that it's just human nature - plastic doesn't hurt, cash does.
My wife didn't believe me, but as of month 13 on our family budget where cash is the only thing we use (with few exceptions) she commented to me last night that although she was skeptical at first and didn't like the budget, she has grown to love it. We have met all our savings goals each month, paid off more than we ever could have before and still had enough cash for unexpected house projects.
In her words 'I used to buy a lot more clothing and not really think carefully if I really needed it or not - I just swiped the card. Now with cash I take the time to stop and think about if I REALLY need the purchase before I make the decision.'

Yeah currently the topics for the "Call to Action" part of the segment... Roughly look like:
-Buy with Cash... Or if you need to buy stuff on line, use a debit card... Credit Card is ONLY for real emergencies. (Like your Car Breaks down, or your baby needs medicine) Living within your means teaches you something about the value of the dollar, and with enough people on a large scale, it opens up
-Write a politician once a month... Even if it's a form letter that you mail out each month. 42 cents lets him know "Hey I'm watching you." The government should always be afraid of the people, and sometimes they need a reminder of who the hell it is that they actually serve.
-Once a day... Just listen to someone. Don't just sit there and wait for your turn to talk. Just stop, listen and pay attention... Even if what they're saying disagrees with how you feel or believe. Because the more you listen, the more you pay attention to how others feel, the more you realize how much we all have in common.
And really, what's 5 minutes out of your day.
-Take Communal meals, especially with your family. For thousands of years we ate together, not just because it was a convenient way to cook, but because it was a way for us to communicate, share parts of who we are, and more importantly transmit values to the younger generation. It's when people live in isolation that they "lose touch" and fixate on the wrong values. There were no cave men serial killers!
-Once a day, do something nice for someone. Hold a door for someone who isn't one quick step behind you, let someone into traffic instead of cutting them off, answer a question, offer to bring someone back a drink when you're going to the kitchen.
-20 minutes a day, persue your dream or your goal. Read an article about it, tinker on it, journal about it... Whatever your dream or goal is, just work a little bit at it, a little bit each day... Even if it seems impossible. Because all of life is either a process of moving up or down in small degrees. It can be amazing how a thousand little steps all of a sudden puts you at the top of a mountain.
-Once a year volunteer for something. Whether it's handing out cookies at the Red Cross Blood Drive, working in a soup kitchen for a day, or helping collect toys for tots. Something... Because the truth is that the ability to serve others is just as important to the path of a good life, as the ability to accomplish great challenges.
*****
Personal Accountability is the high watermark of a person, and with just a little bit of effort we can stop living in a culture of low tide excuses.
The problems facing us today are long term ones, they might even be generation problems. But I believe that it's only when we contribute to the solution that we earn the right to complain about the problem.
We got into this situation, because we lost touch with each other... We became fixated on our own needs, and on getting what we wanted quickly.
If we're going to solve it, it's going to be solves by people, in small steps, over a long span of time. I think it's best to baby step our way to the top of this mountain of foolish choices. Rather than keeping looking for new ways to lay the bandages of blame on the wounds of self inflicted stupidity.

*sigh* No sexy time for me because I am married.
See now I hear my fellow married guys saying this stuff all the time...
What I did... I just waited until she was in the mood (I might have worked on it a little bit, but not alot and not overtly)
Then when she wanted some Frisky time... I just said "Nah, I'm not really in the mood."
Ever since then anytime I'm remotely in the mood, she's game.
*****
I learned long ago that while Men value themselves on their strength, and ability to accomplish challenges.
Women value themselves on the quality of their relationships...
They grew up aware that eyes were watching them, and on some level "Feeling Sexy" offers validation. (Even if it's an Id like level)
It's like anything... If a person has an endless supply of cookies... They eat cookies whenever they want to...
But if a person really enjoys cookies, and they think those cookies can be taken away... They tend to appreciate it more when they getting a cookie is a special occasion.

Well it isn't about playing games...
It's about being in control of your cravings... Being in control of your obessions and fixations.
*I had to learn this kind of control when I was recovering from Addiction.
The Q'uero Indians have a saying "You can only have that which you are truly capable of not having."
It's easy to stare at something and convince yourself that you want it so bad that you need it...
It's another thing to stare at yourself and realize just how much of your life is a chain of one obsession after another.
Always wanting more... And more... But there's nothing that will ever be enough.
I learned that whether it's your dick, or alcohol, or gambling, or snorting a line of coke off a strippers hip bones... The only way you ever get control of your destiny is to be able to choose when to stop wanting so bad that it feels like needing...
And instead living start living so passionately that choosing challenges makes you happy.

Yea man, 60 years old. I guess they had something in for him, who knows? He was even a supervisor.
Called him in and told him that they had him on tape for getting the milk from the vendor then walking away after getting his food. He says that he just forgot, it's happened before but the vendor didn't care.
He was completely caught off gaurd, they didn't give him any type of warning, just read a letter to him and handed him his check.

Try a buzzbait for topwater. Bass absolutely slam buzzbaits this time of year. As far as spinnerbait I would have to see the clarity of the water, but for a pond (probably real clear) I would guess white with silver blades.

Was originally called Armistice Day. The signing of the treaty ending World War I took place on 11/11 at 11:00 AM.

Bzzzt... Nope it was the day that Fraggle Rock was discovered by the Pilgrims, after they built a time machine powered by Robitussin, and unicorn farts.
:P
:D
It's amazing though how that Treaty of Versaille would shape world politics for nearly another century to come... As it lead to the massive inflation of Germany... Which Adolf Hitler used to come to power, to start WWII... Which the spoils of it ending started the cold war...

This is becoming a moment in history, that we may need to explain to our grandchildren.

I still say that this is the "Terrifying and Monsterous Mask" part of this moment in history.
There's a primordial energy moving in the background...
This is an Abraxian Moment...
In all personal journeys of enlightenment one must be disembodied of old illusions, before he can clear his eyes to understand the truth.
So is true of corrupt cultures... As a new world is born an old one was be destoryed.
We'll never understand the ugliness of our own stupidity, apathy and greed, until we stare them in the face and see them for what they truly are, when they are stripped of all their convenient excuses.

Yeah... Now somebody remind me... Why was that second Ammendment put in there?
Was it:
A. So we could go hunting for food if we needed to.
B. Because everyone was tired of wearing long sleeve shirts in the summer
C. PETA was complaining that Grizzlys were getting tired of walking on 2 legs.
D. The Founding Fathers were aware that water balloon fights would be a lame way for Gangbangers to carry out horrendous crimes of violence in the future.
E. So no one could ever take away our ability to over throw the government, should it fail to serve the good of the people.

Sadly I just bought 200 rounds of 10mm JHP ammo, 3 boxes of 12 gauge shells and a box of .308. The last one was for deer but damn.

Well in all honesty... As much as I hate that sniveling, lieing ass, dip****... This isn't his fault.
When it comes to the economy, he actually called all of this stuff... And the outrage of the American people, and our dick in the corporate mouth congress, stopped him.
He didn't make us squander gas...
He didn't make us make stupid ass loans...
He didn't make us blow up our credit cards for everything...
He didn't make us spiritually Bankrupt.
The truth is, that the American Consumer is responsible for the stake of the American consumer...
We put "Other people" in charge of our economy... We put "Other people" in charge of bringing us technology that will save us.
****
Now don't get me wrong... I think Bush and half the Republican Party should be held accountable by the national community for Crimes against humanity.
But honestly...
We can't pin this on him... And if we as a group looked in the mirror, and held ourselves accountable, change would happen a lot faster.
Mohatma Gandhi wasn't just running his mouth when he said "We must become the change we wish to see."

I've never been able to understand, how stupid so many people are when it comes to this, It kills me just to have 50 dollars on a credit card, And to think some people have 5,000 to 100,000 on theirs
I tell people all the time that it's borrowed freakin money people, it's got to be paid back with a bunch of interest added to it

Really what it is, is that you are borrowing against your free time. Since you trade your time for wages, by borrowing, you are spending TIME you haven't earned yet.
This comes a stark realization when you do the math on those who don't have debt and can retire much earlier than those who do have debt and are getting mortgages when they are 60-70 years old.

Look at my buddy Snow Pea... He and his wife combined... $43,000 in Credit Card... All because they're trying to "Keep up with the Jones's"
****
He and his wife want to get a new hard camper like my fish house... (They have a pop up that kills them to put up every weekend.)
I said "Well I got mine as a POS for $400... And then Spent $700 remodeling it and making it powerful (Including my wood stove etc...).
To which they responded... "Yeah I'm sick and tired of having stuff that's slightly used... So I think we've got to buy new... Something only in the 10K range."
WTF?
Retards... You're willing to spend $10K just so you don't have to spend an extra 15 minutes setting up your camper?

Yep... Sounds about right... It ain't called "The Fish of 10,000 casts" because the peksy bastards jump into the boat.
Every year Musky Fishing I always catch more bass than my buddys who call themselves bass fisherman.
What are the water temps where you are?
Right now up here the temps are cool enough that the fish are on rock and gravel bars.
yeah i wasn't really expecting to catch one my first time out. I didn't get the exact water temp but a couple guys i talked to said it was still a little too warm yet. I'll try again closer towards the end of oct.
I hear ya. My trip to Clear Lake this past week I didn't catch much of anything, the water level was way down and the water was kinda gross with literally hundreds of dead carp floating everywhere. I was bummed, but I made do with what I could. Hopefully the lake will be in good shape again by spring.
yeah we're in kind of a drought (insert kentucky draw here lol) water levels are WAAAYYY down. sadly i didn't even know cuz of the lack of grass here in the city where im going to school. our neighbors entire soybean crop caught on fire. 30 some acres before they put it out. craziness

Damn... Just found out my Father in Law collapsed at work...
They took him to the hospital...
Needs either a double or a quadruple Bi-pass...
Last time he went in for a hernia operation the DT's almost killed him.... So this ought to be interesting.
Currently the only member of the family he's told was my wife. (His drinking has estranged him from the rest of the family pretty badly.)
So far my wife is taking it rather non chalantly by refusing to talk about it, and then slamming my cats tail in the door.

Called... His wife answered his phone said "He'll have to call you back, we're on our way back home from the children's hospital.... I could hear him on the phone with his mother on the other phone talking about Leukemia."
Here we go again... Darkness everywhere...

It would be a great time, if it wasn't for that whole pesky Collapse of Western Civilization, while my Dad is dieing, my wife's Dad needs massive heart surgery, one of my best friend's kids might have Leukemia, and if there isn't a massive turn around, there's a 50% chance that I'll lose my job before November.

Meh...
It will get it's way through...
I have no doubt that there are powerful energies at work here... Nothing happens on Accident.
The Lakota Sioux say that there are 4 Virtues... Strength, Courage, Wisdom, and Big Heart... We are each born with one of these, and must learn to cultivate the others in ourselves.
There's a reason why I was born with a large and loving heart...
When Darkness surrounds you, the best place to "Charge" your light from is to fall back on your greatest strength.
I understand now that God did not put me through the dire straights of my past because it would make some cookie cutter life lesson story on an ABC after school special.
The experiences I had were to strengthen me for the true challenges that come at me now... So I could have the Wisdom to see through the darkness at the truth that lays at the core... So I could have the Strength to weather the storm, the strength to help hold up others... And the courage to "Live Forward" for the sake of that which is best, and beautiful, and bright in the world.
