Hope you get your goose.

Bow hunting starts tomorrow here.

I already have 4 hanging, lol!! Last shot was 780 meters with the M-14. :)

I love being in my 30's... Remember that back issue I had? Came back in the form of arsehole (no homo) tightening back spasms. Think Braveheart torture scene for reference... Had to take 2 Vicodin just to function and given my recent struggles I don't feel to great about it. :(

Go see a chiropractor, I've had spasms off and on for 5 years and when I have them, I'm fukn miserable. My doc fixes me up in 3 visits.

Outa here!

Have a safe weekenz guys!

Have a good one fitty.

Have a safe and productive weekend all...

You too.

Well guys... I'm outta here...

Gonna Run up to fish camp... Catch a burger on the way at the Landing restaurant.

Then I've got 4 hours to kill before Snow-Pea and his wife show up... Figure maybe I'll work on that anniversary poem for my wife.

Fish off the dock...

I should be back tomorrow afternoon/night (Assuming I don't blow a flat) and I'll try to check back in!

You guys take care!

Take it easy Nainoa

I get the spasms too(post op discectomy L5-S1). I usually stretch, hotpack it and throw down some Tylenol. Every now and again it gets bad enough for narcs, but it takes quite a bit for me to go that route.

Mine feels like someone trying to rend my spine from its moorings, lol!! My chiro says" I don't understand how you're back gets so far outta whack with the weights that you lift." I have only told him about 22 reps @ 315 on deads, he has no idea about the 775 lb pull or that the high reps are only once in a while.

Well I'm back in town...

Whew that was a rough one...

Picked up a 22" walleye off the dock... I've got a little conjuctivitis bleary infection in my eyes, so everything is bleary. I can't really even see what I'm typing,... I'ts been getting worse as the day goes on. (So youy'll have to be patient with my typos!)

Snow=Pea and his wife slept on the front bunk of my camper last night...

Holy Christ was that some nightmare inspiring crap... Both of them have a body shape kind of like blobs of melted wax... Sleeping at night... They make these noises... I'm not sure which is which... But one sounded like a pig snorting, while the other one sounded like a asthmatic goat drowning in a pool of tapioca pudding!

Frack do those two need to get to a goddam doctor!

Got the fish house free today through some pretty miraculous backing work through the forest and around S curves... Then towed the unbalanced load home in crazy ass driving rain, with the bald tires trying to break free on the slick tight corners...

It's been a rough one to say the least!

Yes... The Esox Masquinongy has been a nemesis fish of mine for the past two years...

Honestly... Turn back now... Don' t go down that road bro!
;)
:D

LOL...

A coupole of quick notes...

*Make sure you get strong steel leaders... Or a 100 pound test flouro would be best.

*Fall = Bucktails... I've moved some impressive fish with #10 double cow girl in silver.

*Make suire you work rock piles and rock bars... The war pig's come up out of their summer haunts in the deep, to hang on rocks and gravel adjacent to weeds. I moved one last year that had a head the size of German Shepherd.

Oh yeah... Something else I learned, while at the Bar and Grill at the Landing on Alexander...

This year for ice season, they're running a service where you can just call up from your fish house place and order, and they bring you anything on their menu on a 4 wheeler.

Boy we were thinking about going to Minnewaska... But the ability to be fishing and just order a high end bacon cheese burger, steak, or chicken marsalla, and have it delivered to me... Sure is appealing!

Now THAT is an idea!!!

Yeah I was talking with the owners wife, and she was saying as tough as the economy has been, that if these "Tricks" don't work, they'll have to sell by June of 2009.

It's like my dream place... Now if I can just save up a couple hundred thousand dollars... I could buy it... Bar and Grill, on a Prime musky lake, public hunting land all over the places for the second largest deer herd in the state, and wild turkey populations so strong that you have to watch out that you don't smear one on the road.

There must be a lot of deer by you. Gun season here does not start for quite a while yet.

I have crop damage permits so there really isn't a closed season or ruling on what type of weapon you can use. They do frown upon the use of fully automatics or suppressed firearms though.

I have no doubt of that my friend. Fact is I can no long do deads or heavy squats(actually I'm not even supposed to squat) due to residual back issues and an ongoing degenerative disc disease in my lumbar spine.
Since I've retired from the military my back issues have actually tapered off. I still have some bad days and a few limitations but with a bit of modification in my lifestyle I've really been pretty good. Of course I'm always careful when it comes to my back now.

Another day on the farm.

Some good football this weekend. Was happy to see Notre Dame finally beat Michigan. I think both of those teams are rebuilding though. Denver / San Diego was a fun game to watch on Sunday.

Big South Fork is a few hours from here, but I'm in that area a couple of times per year. I went on one camping/hiking trip there when I was about your age. It was pretty nice...at least what I remember. Any place in southeast KY will be different for you, so give it a try.

Red River Gorge is one of the most popular hiking areas. Be careful though, seems like we have someone killed there every year falling off a cliff. They have also created a new trail in my county...Pine Mountail Trail. I have been on much of it before it was developed. It's a real eye opener.

Okay...

So I can't help but get stuck over hearing some of the conversations of the women in my office... And wonder "How the hell can you be this stupid and live!"

Super B*tch came over to the office of the CareBear Powered Retard, next to mine...

They discussed the strange dreams they've both been having...

Then Super B*tch told her all about the vacation she's excited about.

Her and her Husband are going to Mexico, and taking their 18 year old (Hot) daughter.

Her Husband's Best Friend and his wife are going with, and they're taking their 18 year old son.

So here's the kicker sentence... "We decided to get the kids their own room to share... Luckily they've known each other for most of their lives, and they're just friends, he's not the kind of boy who would try anything."

*****

WTF... You're taking your 18 year old daughter, shaking her up in a room with a guy who's known her forever, and knows all her likes, and dislikes, knows "The little things" about her...

And you're putting them in a room together in romantic (18 year old drinking age) Mexico... And you're just going to count on things being okay!

You'll be lucky if you don't get cleaning bills because of the high level of pecker tracks all over the bed, drapes, couch, carpet, lampshade, night stand etc...

Deductible shouldn't apply if they are determined to be at fault - their insurance should pay 100% of your costs.

Deductible would come into play if you filed a claim on your own policy.

I would imagine that it would be the dumpster people...

Unfortunately, unless they negligently placed the dumpsters (Like on a hill, with an improper brake or some such thing.) They'll be looking to weasel out of it.

Most likely when you signed your rental agreement, there were disclaimers about "Not being held liable" for weather related damage to property.

And they'll dump it on your insurance.

^^^^My neighbor lady had a similar situation at her work a few years ago.

Congrats on the one year anniversary bro. I'm sure you'll get your poem finished on time.

Best wishes for your Dad. I know that's got to be pretty hard on you.

Yeah I know but when Ike went by TN there was still an eye (albeit faint) about 200 miles West....it was heading up that way. The Bengals/Titans game was hilarious...lol

I don't know...

I've said Good Bye "Just in Case" to my Dad 3 times now...

And I almost worry that when it happens I won't be affected by it like I should... As if I've numbed myself up to it, by finding way to not be overwhelmed by worrying about it.

I'm always mindful that this, like any long term family illness, is a marathon and not a sprint.

There's nothing I can do about it except try to stay strong and keep loving him the way a son loves a father.

****

The thing that's most important to him is that I'm happy, and that I keep moving my life forward towards all the next big steps...

So it's probably part of why I've been so hard on myself for all the dead ends I've run into.

*****

When I look back on my life and all the tough moments... The dark times... The ****ty times when I bemoaned my fate and shook my fist at God for putting me through whatever here and whichever there...

I understand with lucid clarity how each of those times was part of lessons that lead me upward on the great journey of my life.

So I'd be a complete idiot if I didn't realize that all the pot holes that I keep stepping into are a part of lessons that will fortify me and help move me forward, to some place 20 years from now, that I'll look back upon for wisdom.

Sometimes I think if it were not for this faith, I would crumble at the seams.

Okay...

Finished the poem...

Not my best work... But I'm a very harsh critic... I'm sure it will make her melt, and all that stuff...

But I might bitten off more than I can chew trying to write an artistic print of it in Hawaiian (I've been teaching myself Hawaiian)

**** is that tricky language!

Yeah you've pretty much got to watch out for anything Balkans and East... There's some kind of Crazy Gene working around that gene pool! It like disguises itself until it's introduced to semen and cold hard cash... Which (According to my old research) appears to activate the gene!

The dumpsters have no brakes. I assume they will have to pay.

It sounds like it will have to go onto the public liabilty of the apartment complex. Or at least it would here.
They will probably put in a claim for the dumpster company but I doubt it will go far. No personal damage the apartment insurance will pay for it quickly as they do not want anyone to start asking why the dumpster wasn't secured and ask for more money.

Yeah as my wife and I are talking about starting a family soon, we've been discussing values to raise our kids by...

One of the things we discussed about daughters was that we don't want them to grow up self-validating by how attractive they are. (Which my Wife's Family is a lot of HOT Women.)

If I have a daughter, it's fine for her to be attractive... But I want her to self-validate based on who she is in substance. Not to just end up like a lot of these pretty girls who, rather than do the hard work of seeking personal growth experiences, they settle on the lesser path, and validate themselves by the number of guys who want to stick their dick in them!

****

But whatever children I have are going to be Freaks of Nature... My Wife is a strong backed woman... Tougher than half my male friends... And I'm not exactly friggin' dainty...

A couple of well placed martial arts classes and I'll have to make sure my daughter isn't validating herself based on the fact that she can pick her date up by the throat with one hand and choke him out!

Well and I think the other advantage of Martial Arts and Sports is that it provides kids with structure... And somehow the older I get the more I realize that idle hands are indeed the devil's tools.

Thinking back... It was the sturcture I had when I was younger, that helped me come back to base and get my head out of my ass later in life during the "What does it all mean" and "Falling from grace" phases of my life.

We've had our son in TKD now for about 3 years. He really likes it and we initially put him in it strictly for some self-confidence and respect. He's one belt away from BB and tests for that in a few months. He used to compete but hasn't since football and jr. high started. We don't want to put too much pressure on him.

Here's a clip I made of him back in 06.

I think martial arts is a great idea for kids. Definitely follow through w/ this.

One thing positive is that you got some money. I would be interested to see if the dumpster company would be held responsible. I would think that the dumpster company should have their equipment protected/immobile to prevent things like this happening. Hopefully you will get more money.

I see about 5 hours of labor including the window and probably about $500 worth of materials including paint.

The commercial place shoot REALLY high on these quotes because they know insurance is funding it. Maybe you can find a bed at a salvage yard.

Fitty I got to agree with PGL, that seems like a high estimate to me. Do you have a friend of a friend etc that does body work? Might be worth a shot looking around a little. Yeah that does seem really High! but I also know the COL in Ohio (One of the top 10 in the lower 48) is outrageous right now, and I'm sure that's factoring in.

But I hear what you're saying on the deductable being a pain in the ass.

*****

Surely the door isn't going to cost the whole 24K00?

I would just take the remainder, and invest it into something like a CD...

You're into the truck for the long haul as it is... So it needs to be fixed before you sell it etc...

I say toss the remainder into a CD, and let it grow... At some point farther down the line when the tides of life run high and a windfall comes to you... You can pull out the CD on time, with the windfall and get the truck fixed before you sell her!

So what would you think to say buying a 3 cube chest freezer?

I mean really... If you could buy bulk meats and freeze them up, but still at your finger tips, you're going to save a TON of money.

My 3 Cube was $110 on sale for $90...

Rough tally of what it's saved me in my ability to store bulk foods, was just over $310, for the first 12 months.

And then you'd be spending money on something with longer term value?

Same here when we can save the money we do. My dad and I just fixed his car ourselves when that deer ran into the side of his car. The insurance company said the car was not worth the money it would cost to fix it. The were would have just totaled the car out and gave us the money they thought it was worth. Screw that that car still ran. We took the front panel off and pounded out the dent, fixed the front mirror that got busted off, and some of other stuff and it did not cost a thing. So what if it does not look perfect.

We run our cars until they can not drive anymore.

Thank God we have not had any more car bills lately. That last bill to fix my dad's transmission was 2,000 dollars. Bill before that which we found out from this mechanic that guy did not even fix the clutch was 600.

How do you guys handle gift giving? The reason I ask is that my son is getting baptized this weekend and I have invited some aunts and uncles and although most have RSVP'd there is one set that has not. They were invited the last time for my other son's baptism and they did not come or give a gift. If they do not want to come that is great but I think you should at least send something? Correct??

If they did not come, would you feel bad or have any feelings about not giving to their stuff that they have for their family? This is making me so mad about them possibly not coming. They say stick with your family but I am not so sure.

My feelings at this advanced age:

If relatives come to a fucntion, they come.

If relatives dont come, they dont come.

A gift is never required on my end from anyone for anything.

If they bring a gift, fine.

If they dont bring a gift, fine.

* I would rather enjoy their company rather then having them not come because they may not have funding for gifts*

Well no offense Bro... But I think you're looking at Gift Giving the wrong way.

One of the true secrets of the world is that "Giving" is how the world is hardwired for success.

The Sun gives energy, Water gives life, Giving your children a better life than the one you had, makes sense in a way that you never imagined it could.

Western Culture turns giving into a material thing... And suddenly it gets greed attached to it. And they limit what they give.

Frack that man...

The truth is that the less you give in this life, the worse your life becomes, in ways that hard to measure.

Them "Not Giving" something to the christening of you boy wounds them... Not you. The only way you become wounded is if you don't keep a place in your heart for them.

Because really... Say a Tornado is coming at your house... You grab the family and head for safety forsaking your material possessions, because "A life means more than a possesion."

In the same way, a relationship with your fellow man, means more than gift given or recieved.

Jesus taught that you should treat your enemy as your brother...

And if you can do that as "Good Christian" you sure as hell ought to be able to not give two tinker's ****s about some stingy in-laws.

I'm the same way on my B-day...

I spent my last 2 birthday in the forest with some of my closest friends...

Spent this last one up in Chippewa National Forest, fishing, cutting wood, cooking awesome meals with shoe string ingredients, and painting.

Hell on my birthday I caught 5 Crappies over 10 inches
Cut and split over a cord of wood
Made what most described as "The best soup they've ever had" out of simple left overs and veggies
And painted a 24" X 24" painting

Ended the night with wine circle, each of my dear friends toasting with something they appreciated about me with each pass of the bottle.

I hear what you are saying. Sometimes people don't take the time and give the courtesy of a RSVP. If they want to come great, if they don't that is great too. I just want to have the respect of a call back saying if they are coming or not. Like I posted in this post, my family is the "Bring a gift and a dish to pass if you are coming".

Good post. In my family though those same relatives would be the first to talk about you behind your back saying that you did not put "x" amount of dollars in so and so's card but they don't have to give you a darn thing.

Guys as always:

BE SAFE!

Take care and have a great weekend bro.

I never knew about gift giving at baptisms either but everyone called asking what size he wears and just assumed that it was common place. I am more concerned about the possible snubbing. My family is the type that says "Bring a gift and a dish to pass"

My ex-wife's mom is like that.

Personally I'd be like: 'just bring a dish and we'll potluck barbecue afterwards for some good old fashioned family bonding time.

I've got a Toxic aunt like that on my Mom's side.

And it's definitely come back to bite her in the ass. Like at my wedding... I invited her and her kids (My Cousins) who wished they'd always been closer to me, but I shunned their entire family due to my aunt's judgemental bull**** attidue.

There was a lot of love around my wedding... (Believe it or not, despite my Avatar, I'm a very loving guy!)

And my Toxic Aunt sat out on the sidelines in her own little cold reality.

*****

Now I'm not a religous man, but I pay attention to good wisdom when I hear it.

Remember the scene in the bible... When they come to get Jesus, and Peter starts getting ready to gut some Roman Centurions... Jesus stops him and says "He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword."

Now on the surface, this seems like good advice, to help you remember not to stab people who you don't like very much.

But it's also about a way of living... People who surround their lives with negative actions, negative thoughts, negative energy... Live... Un-Surprisingly, negative lives.

The thing about Negative Energy though, is that it draws you down, it draws you in... Like a Bowling ball on a trampoline, things get pulled towards the bull**** dip it makes in the reality around it.

The only way to stop it...

Get off the busted ass Trampoline.

And you get off the busted ass Trampoline of their negative bull****, by not giving a damn.

Like Fitty's Wisdom... If they want to have a relationship with you... GREAT... Doors are open.

But if they want to talk **** and drive wounds into the fabric of the family over petty bull****...

Then it's them that loses.

Toxic people stay toxic because we normal and positive people give them the energy to stay toxic.... To Stay Negative...

Because in the end Negative people don't care about the quality of reaction they get from you... Positive, negative... Doesn't matter... All they want is to have their petty life feel empowered by drawing something from you.

And it's up to you to Rise Above That Bull****!

When my kids were baptised about 2 months ago, there were ''no'' gifts exchanged, it was a big get together at my neighbors lake, most of the church members brought food, cookies, home made ice cream, it was very nice

Thanks all for wished me a Happy B-day. Went for a 7 mile hike and now eating lunch and playing guitar.... Alone but I'm doing ok.

Hey I forgot to tell you guys about my moment of personal growth last night...

My wife had 2 days off in a row...

The previous 2 days I'd been busting my butt fixing stuff and working on things, washing dishes, working on some fall clean up projects... And she spent her 2 days off, sleeping in, watching TV and Snuggling with the cats...

She accomplished like 5 minutes of house work.

She's been going through a real lazy streak recently.

I came home with an arm load of fall/winter project stuff and saw that the house was messier at the end of the day than it was when I left in the morning.

She knew I was going to call her on it.

But I went and put in my lift first...

Got out... Canceled fishing plans (Fall Fishing isn't very hot yet anyway.) Made of list of everything that needed to get done between now and Monday.

I walked into the office (Where she was playing video games on the computer I bought her for her school work.)

INSTANTLY she started tossing out a bunch of excuses about why she'd been sitting on her ass doing nothing for 2 days in a row...

I stopped her said "Look Honey... I love you too much argue about petty bull****, like you sitting on your ass while I'm busting mine... So here's the deal... This is the list of **** that needs to get done between now and Monday Night. We're going to do it together.. Things are going to get clean, they're going to get fixed, they're going to get organized, and we're going to do it together... I'm not going fishing, and you're not going to play cards with your mom.

Clearly, from the last 2 days, you're rested up... So this weekend, it means it's time to work."

At that point she just looked relieved that I wasn't going to yell at her (She's really been pushing it recently and knows it!)

So we smooched on the deal... And tonight the list begins!

*****

I've come to the realization that she's not a "Self-Motivated" person... I don't think though that it's because she's Lazy... I think it's because she's just never had to be "Motivated" as part of her skill set.

I'm going to take the high road on this one, and teach her Motivation, "By Example."

I'm really hoping the "Positive Energy" approach yeilds more benefit than the "Negative Energy" approach.

Hey bro, before I forget, I saw a few days ago in a post of yours, something about your Rack pull day workout, Just wondering what kind of routine you do ??

Basically, right now I'm using Rack Pull Day as a sort of "Legs-Back" Day... Shoulder has been a little stiff for squats... So I do "Deep" Rack Pulls. Depth is somewhere lower than a regular Rack Pull yet higher than an off the floor Dead lift.

*****

Start out with a total stretch, back, shoulders, legs... Between each back and shoulder stretch I do 20 deep knee bends, to warm up the legs, and make sure "My Old Knee Injury" knows to get ready.

Set 1: 225 lbs "Warm up" 10-12 reps

2 Mins rest

Set 2: 275 lbs "Build up" 10 reps

2 Mins Rest

Set 3-5 315 lbs "Power up" 10 Rep / 10 Rep / 8 Rep

2 Mins between sets

*At this point I take a 5-10 minute break to really get all my power back...

Then I load to 340 (Which sadly is all my plates)

And I bang out 3 sets of 10... with 2 mins of rest

Usually by the last set my grip is fatigued, and I've been known to stop at 8 reps rather than drop the bar, as I do after all lift in my wife's walkin closet!
(Yes Arguements on both sides.)

****

At this point I'm usually close to feeling like I'm gonna puke, and my hands are tired... So I take another 5 minute break, and kind of ring my hands to encourage blood flow.

****

Then I switch over to chins & pull ups.

Usually if I'm pressed for time (Which seems to always be the case) I do what I call "Crab Chins." (Don't know why they're called that... It's just what my first lifting coach called them, and it's stuck with me.)

Which is kind of a hybrid between what bb.com calls a Gorilla: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.php?Name=Gorilla+Chin/Crunch

Except the grip is done on my "Peg Bar" chin up bar... I have 3 bars in my house... One for Pull ups, one for Chins... And then my Crab Peg bar...

There's 2 pegs about 12 inches apart that stick out at a 90 degree angle to the over head bar of my squatting cage.

So I grab them, and chin myself up... Then crunch with lower body... And back down...

4 sets of 8 is about all my hands can handle.

Then I finish off with some simple calf raises...

Warm Down and stretch...

If I have enough time to throw pull ups in... Then I do 3 sets of Crab interlaced with 3 sets of pull ups, for the full lat workout.

****

Post Workout meal, I eat a 12-16 ounce NY Strip Steak, baked potato, and a tall glass of 1% milk.

*Then sneak in a dilly bar for a snack later in the evening!
;)

I also wanted to e-high five you for your approach with your wife. Takes some serious maturity and self control to handle it the way you did.

Currently I'm also pursuing my writing endeavors.

I know deep down in my heart that I've got some blockages in fear, and broken parts of myself... Wounds left unhealed by inattention...

So I'm currently conducting a long term spiritual healing of myself.

****

I mean really... It's no stretch for me to realize that I didn't come this far, only to settle for less than a life that fulfills me. And so I'm just working myself forward... Powering up the things I'm best at, powering up the things I need to improve on... Powering up the things that make me happy... Following the wisdom of Healing Bear "You must face your fear one step at a time, it will not be conquered all at once."

There's a real knee jerk belief in our culture that "Great things happen fast." But when I look back at the truth of my life... Every "Real and Lasting" improvement that's come from "Slum Boy" to where I am now... Has been through actions that moved at twice the speed of continental drift.

One of my many sayings is "The doors of opportunity only begin to open when you start walking towards them, if you simply stand back and wait for them to unlock before you act, they will remain forever closed."

****

So as such I just keep working at it... Try to make my best designs, writing whatever, whenever I can. And see what doors start to open.

*In fact I've recently started a writers blog (Old Idea of Flying-V's)... Basically it's more like a "Nainoa's Best of the Ramble."

I'm basically using what I think is my best Ramble's, cleaning them up, and posting them...

Who knows if someone standing at a door of opportunity might read them at large... At the very least... It creates a presence!

Cool Bro!

****

You know as long as we're discussing matters spiritual...

A practice I've adopted from the Q'uero of the Peruvian Andes...

Is to take a long hike in the forest... Preferably uphill (As are the challenges of life.) As you walk be contemplative about memories from your past... Things from your past that influence who you are in a negative way... Things that make more impact on your life in the here and now, than you would like.

As you walk, be mindful to gather wood, a little piece here, a little piece there, as you go.

Your destination should be a Special or a Sacred place...

Come to it at Sun Down.

Thank the Spirits and ask them to help you remove the negative energy from your life.

Then start a fire... (Not a White man's fire!) But a small fire, with a strong coal bed... Just how like a strong life is heated by the coal bed of individual passion!

One piece at a time, burn the wood you gathered on your long walk... Be mindful to make each piece of wood, represent one of those bad memories...

Talk about it, laugh about it, cry about it... Just get it out... And as the wood burns, so goes the negative impact of the memory.

Go till dawn if you have to.

But I think you'll find that there's always a few piece of wood left!
;)

******

It's a basic truth of the human experience that we give too much power to the energies of the past. And while there is great wisdom learned from them in reflection... We need not the negative energies.

Everytime I've done this "Work of the South" I've come out of it more centered in understanding who I am... And more importantly... More Forgiving of the relationships broken from the days gone by.

****

Then on the walk back home... Make sure you take a different path back than you did there! Because after all catharsis, we must be mindful to have the courage to choose a new path, a new way at looking at how we make the long journey to the home of our heart.

Hey Kong,

Glad to see you got to fish. How's the health...I believe it was your cholesterol. I ended up on BP meds, but trying to lose a little weight (don't laugh) and see if I can get off of them.
Hey bro, how ya been! Everything is perfecto, thanks.

Must have been a bad test, really. I saw 2 other dr's
since and I was under 200, so no way it just dropped
230 pts in a month on it's own. New journal in sig too. :)

Yeah see Screach isn't an IT guy... I have friends that are IT guys (One of my best friends of 26 years is an IT director for a Medical supply firm.)

Screach is just some peckerhead with a 1 year certicate degree, who's working with servers to make enough of a pay check so he can keep building his girl robot wife out of old Sony TV's and Bicycle parts!

Well my Dad made it throug his operation with flying colors...

He now no longer has any way to naturally regulate his own heart beat... The faulty Sinus node is completely dead, and his heart runs completely 100% on the pace maker...

While today is a day to be happy... !

It's still just another 1 step forward, before the next 2 steps back, of this marathon.

Awesome Nainoa. I know you are relieved. Tell him your friends hope he gets better.

Morning fellas. Weekend plans? Mine are feeshin in the morning, followed with some scouting for deer sign. Then Sunday I have another bow tourney.

Yeah I don't know how to feel really...

His health is very much a 1 step forward 2 step back proposition... And those "Two Steps Back" just keep coming faster and faster over the course of the last year.

I mean a Year ago I was on my honeymoon (I was actually at Mount Kiluea 364 days ago.)

And at that point it was only that my Dad felt "Really Tired" slow dancing at the wedding reception...

Now he's not sure if he can go for a walk farther than around the block... And this is the "Step Forward."

It's hard sometimes to watch him "Slowly Grind Towards a Halt." As positive and powerful as I try every day to be... It still takes a piece out of me.

Just think...

364 days ago, I was in Hawaii... Drove the 3 hours from Kona to Mount Kiluea. (Which is funny that it's 3 hours, but only 96 miles!)

Stopped halfway at the southern most tip of the Big Island, at the black sands beach of Pahala, where we saw a Honu (Endangered Hawiian Sea Turtle) about to lay it's eggs.

Continued on, and toured as much of the Volcano as we could.

It's funny because you think that the Big Crest of the Island is the Volcano... And it's not... Mauna Loa (Long Mountain) while capable of erupting is inactive... The thing is MASSIVE (From it's root on the sea floor to it's peak it's 3 times the height of Everest  Blots out the sun for 2 hours in the morning, and has it's own weather system completely independent from the rest of Hawaii.

Mount Kiluea... With a crater still at an impressive 6,500+ feet of elevation... Is little more than a boil on the ass of Mauna Loa.

Kiluea while bleak is definitely a powerful place to be. Even though the actual mouth of the Crater is covered by like 2000 feet of cooled basalt... There is a gravitas to the place that goes beyond any other volcano or mountain I've ever been to... (The Hawaiians call it Mana) but standing there, you understand why the people revere Pele as a Goddess...

The Lava actually comes up, hits the "For Now" solid basalt dome, and redirects down lava tubes to the ocean, a couple of miles below.

The day we were there we drove to the end of the Chain of Craters Road through the Kau'a Lava Desert... Then my wife crapped out on the 2 mile hike in blistering 90 degree weather to where the Lava was meeting the sea in MASSIVE steam plumes...

So instead we stopped at the Sea Arch...

Then turned around and drove back to Kona.

I spent like 7 hours at Kiluea... And I wish I could have spent 7 days... Really... There was so much more adventure in this place of power to see.

Here's some pics.

Good luck. I love getting to fish salt water.

Interesting day yesterday. I had to take my truck to Lexington to get it measured for a camper top. The company would not special order one without measuring. LOL, 3 hour drive there and 3 hours back for a teenager type to "look" at it for 30 seconds and say "Yep, that's a 6x6 bed". GRrr. Luckily I wasn't footing the gas bill. But, I made time to meet one one of my HS buddies for lunch and go by my old neighborhood (age 3-11 for me) and visit the parents of the kids next door. Now I feel real OLD. :(

I'm off today to take retraining to teach Concealed Carry courses here in KY. Fishing will have to wait until next week.

Edit: Nice Hawaii pics. Hawaii will most likely be the last of the 50 states that I visit, if I live long enough.

At least you weren't footing the gas... Otherwise, I'd be PISSED!

Hawaii is a place that I think everyone should do once... The extreme nature of the place really is in places like you're on another planet.

There are 13 different climate types on this planet, and 11 of them are on Hawaii

****

My Buddy Spazz... His Parents inherited a small house up mountain on the Island of Kaua'i (Where I spent 2.5 days) Basically as long as I take spazz with me, I can stay there for free...

So really, for $850 a head in air fare, and $100, I can take a week in Hawaii...

But of course the cost of living a day in Rural Hawaii is just less than the cost of living for a day in downtown New York City!

for my musky adventure this coming weekend i bought some gear:
Surface water buzzer, bucktail spinner, the bigger crankbait dives 2-3 ft, the smaller goes 4-7ft, the leader is an 80lb titanium
Reel is an amabassadeur 6000 and the line is 30lb test berkley fireline. I'm going to leave a few yards of myo line still on it so it doesn't spin on the reel.

Ive already got gloves, a net, and long pliers. besides that and what's in the pic can you think of anything else?

Nice looking fish. I grew up in Yugoslavia and we had them but not as big as you guys get there. They are from the pike family right?

So are you going to be trolling or casting?
