figured i'd get a better response in this section. looking for a lotion that will help yield the darkest tan possible in a bed. a friend form a local tannig place said to try matahari dramatic dark. other than that i have no clue. i usually just use a reg moisturizer and pro tan for comps. thanks for any tips.

How dark your tan gets depends on the melanin levels in your skin. A lotion will help you maximize it, but nothing will make you reach an arbitrary level of "dark" if your skin isn't capable of producing that much melanin.

yes, i realize this. i have dark skin to begin with that's why i only use moisturizer. otherwise i get too dark for my liking. but this time around i am going to try to get as dark as possible prior to the whole fake tan bull****.

Well, start out with a regular tanning lotion and then maybe work your way up to one with a tingle. Everyone has their preferences as far as brands go. I personally like Designer Skin's products.
If I were you, I'd suggest shopping online, as opposed to buying in a salon. I've bought lotions from http://www.tanforless.com and they have good prices and service. Way cheaper than salon prices.

i am light skined european backround and i have been tanning and getting
DARK from using dark sexy tan by matahari..if it gets me dark it will get anyone dark..it has bronzers in it so wait to shower at least an hour afterwards..also switch from a bed to a standup as the bed holds presssure points that will permit you from getting as dark as possible..also it gives you that weird little white spot on your lower back and an unattractive line under your armpit...good luck!

thanks. and yeah, i know not to buy in a store/salon. other than food i don't think i buy anything at stores these days. god bless the internet. i'll check out that brand.
in most beds my shoulders don't even end up under the bulbs. my arm hangs out the the door/top or whatever you want to call it. so if i use a bed i have to squirm and twist to get in there and basically my sides right up under my armpits and the insides of my arms don't tan. it's pretty sweet. :D

Tingle action lotion brings your blood to the surface of the skin, which creates some oxidation and gets you very dark. One summer, I looked like Nat King Cole. Ya, rly.

That tingle stuff absolutely freaked me out. I was bright red for over an hour and it was so painful.
The guys (other competitors) that convinced me to try it thought it was freakin hysterical ... "Oh, they do that to everyone!"

Yeah, some people are more sensitive to that stuff than others. I tried it once out of curiosity (the lowest strength packet they had) and it hurt - bad. I knew it was supposed to irritate my skin, but wasn't prepared for how long the effect lasted. It wouldn't have been so bad if I could have showered after I was done with the salon, but it was straight to class and after the tingle subsided I figured it was all right to hit the gym.
As soon as I began sweating, it moistened the tingle lotion again and I had to call it quits at the gym that day in order to go home and shower. Even after a day or so I still had a rash on the backs of my knees and on my shins.
Definitely do a spot-test or just put it on like one calf before applying it all over. You should do this with any new product, but my skin isn't normally sensitive to chemicals so I didn't think to do so.

i'm ok in those. at least the ones at my gym any way.
npeart - you female-section-lurking whore! get your ass back to the steroid section! what's up bro.
i was going to try to steer clear of the tingle **** because i heard that it would turn me red. but i'm thinking maybe with my olive skin it might not be too bad. my end goal is that statue bronze color on stage. the darker i am prior to applying the sunless garbage the better it works, so i want to be as dark as possible.

Ok, I owned a tanning salon for a few years and honestly tanning salon lotion is a huge waste of money. You would get the same benefit from having moisturized skin (from any lotion) and going in the tanning bed. The trick is in the translucence of the skin, which again... any lotion can create.
There is one difference being the bronzers but essentially you are dying your skin for color. If a bronzer is what you are looking for I would suggest buying any of the triple bronzers that are available (Almost Famous was a popular one).
Last but not least if you are already dark (meaning you have an abundance of melanin) here is the secret to getting really dark...
Pay the extra money and use the high pressure beds. The UVA will act on your existing melanin giving you instantaneous color. Plus high pressure tanning goes 66% deeper (scary) into the skin, thus you can tan less (once per week) and get much darker (up to 3 shades in one session) than in a conventional or medium pressure and it lasts much longer since you are not subject to as much skin shedding. If you look at my profile picture I was completely white (for lack of a better term) prior to my photo shoot. I did 3 high pressure tans (in a 6 day time period) and that is the color I got! Not bad. Now it's been 3 weeks and I am still the same shade (moisturize, moisturize, moisturize).
I hope this helps. Oh and for those of you who are interesting in getting dark but don't have a sufficient base (aka melanin) I would suggest doing a combo of medium pressure beds (to build melanin) followed by high pressure beds.
Ok, there is my 2 cents :)
