So my girlfriend and I have been on a diet for about the last ten days. I've lost a few pounds but my girlfriend is getting discouraged because she hasn't lost a noticeable amount on the scale. She hasn't stepped on a scale in a few years so she's not sure if it's normal to put on weight the week before/of her period. I know women bloat etc. so some weight gain would be expected?

Any figures on how much weight she would fluctuate? She weighs ~130 lbs right now.

Up to a 5 lb increase.

I gain about 5lbs but I lose it about 4 days after I start.

By the way, weight is a poor way to measure progress. Tell her to take her thigh circumference (at top), waist circumference (narrowest part of torso) and hip circumference (widest part across the butt). I can usually tell from those measurements what is going on, but I completely avoid the 4 days before, and 4 first days of my period. I expect changes every 10 days.
