Hey all, Im newly certified with an ACSM and i have an interview with bally total fitness 2morrow so Im really hoping for some information about it. Im curious on how ballys pays their trainer and really what a trainer does (when they're not training people). Im not a big fan of 24 hour fitness but Ive heard some horror stories about ballys in terms of being more of a salesman and less of a trainer..though, I have heard some good things as well (pay, training, environment)

So could anyone please give me some info about how a ballys trainer "works" so I can have some idea going into my interview. thanks so much!!

Ballys pays their trainers based on a tier schedule. You get paid for how many hours you train in a pay period. The more hours you train, the more you will get paid. What do you do when your not training someone? It's called Floor Time. Floor Time is sales time! You work the floor and try to make your FM, Management, and the gym more money. They wont pay you for floor time unless your producing. If you just hanging out, no floor time pay. Bally's sends you to their stretching school for a week i think. They are huge on stretching clients

Bally's is just the same as 24hr. It's all about being a salesman. It's all about increasing revenue

Your main goal should be to start training clients on your own as soon as possible. As a corporate trainer you will never have your clients goals in mind 100%. And thats not your fault.

Good luck

It depends on what you sell. They have different "levels" of sessions....The higher the level, the more they charge the client but the more you will get paid. You get $10 for each first workout you do. All new members get a first workout. Other times you get "prospecting" which is min wage and time u spend calling people or walking the floor.

Bally's is just as bad as 24. Show up sober and with a cert and you've got the job. Maybe even just the cert.
A huge key to marketing yourself to train independently is to get yourself a website up so that you can direct people to it. Use the web to your advantage.

You can actually use microsoft word to put a simple page together. Arrange the text and images how you would want them to look on a web page, then when you save choose 'save as' and instead of saving as a .doc save as .html
The is the hyper text markup language format.
Then check out these sites http://www.actnowdomains.com or http://www.godaddy.com
This is where you buy your domain name and hosting. Hosting is the 'house' your site lives in on the net.
Also, check out this free html editor http://www.pagebreeze.com

Yahoo provides easy webpage design by using templates. It's pretty cheap per month and gets your site on Google searches. For search engine optimization, use the Google adwords tool to put in your meta tags. Use the suggested words as well as your name and locations serviced.

ballys is the WORST company ever. I briefly worked there and it was the biggest joke. They had a new "manager" every week, trainers would charge clients higher rates than what ballys charged, they try to not pay you and make you fill out forms to get your check. I heard members complain about being charged twice a month. I heard the manager tell a salesman "dont let them leave unless they sign up". They pressure people to join and then when they come back and try to cancel they fight it all the way. Its a very corrupt atmosphere. They also used illegal aliens to clean the place.

Don't try to make your site yourself - you'll f it up - it'll get you no new clients -
