I've got it, I hate it. I've had it since Fall of 2006. Over the last 1.5 years I've had the MRI, the diagnosis, the limping, knee braces, swelling, pain, ice, ibuprofen, etc. I've lost 39 pounds in efforts to help this. I've had physical therapy. I've had my personal trainer strengthen the quad and whatever else around it. I've had great days with the knee, and at times, I've hiked for miles even over rocky trails, no problem. Then I have days where it just gets inflamed for whatever reason, and I can't walk, bend it or even kneel. I only have this in the right knee, which means I also get the lovely privilege of having 2 different shaped quads. If you're not into bodybuilding, you'd probably never see it, but its there, and its been at times over a 2 inch difference. I can't do stairs, unless I'm in my own house so i can go on all fours like a dog (up the stairs) anyway.

I've finally resorted to surgery, small scope procedure to 'clean' it up, other than that, there isn't much else to do, as I am aware anyway.

So I'm wondering, if anyone else in here has this, or had it, did you get the scope surgery, how long were you out of lower body cardio? I've been told 2 weeks till i can go for a walk again, and then 6 till i could try a lunge or a squat. Could you do squats period? DId the surgery help you? I want to be able to jog one day, or even better, run, for staying in shape. Right now with this knee, even jogging is absolutely out of the question. For anyone that had this, were you ever able to jog or did you have to result to alternate form of cardio? I've never jogged before, for fitness, and its something I'd like to work toward, but this knee is ruining that.

ITs also killing my motivation right now. I have a great trainer, and I HAD a great diet. I'm trying to pull it all back together but i'm discouraged because of this knee. Right now I can't do any cardio, my weight is stable, I'm not losing, and I feel crappy.

Thx for listening, and bigger thx if you have any knowledge about this darn knee.

oh great. that makes me feel good. Im pretty sure I have this. I made a post about it earlier today.

is it really that bad?? I started hurting last night and while its gone down slightly, it hasnt recovered enough to even walk up/down stairs normally.

Im pretty much in the same situation. I just scheduled the surgery today for next month. I have been dealing with this for as long as you have an this is pretty much the last resort. You should be able to walk right afterwards with a leg brace.

I was editing my post while you responded, so its a little different from what you have quoted, just FYI, lol.

Is it really that bad? for myself, yes. *You are your own case.* You're lighter, younger, and leaner than myself. I don't know your fitness level, only you know that.

In my case, i don't know what caused the injury in the first place, I have a few guesses, and I hope my ortho can fix this by removing some scar tissue.

I didn't want surgery, I wanted to do everything I could first, before the surgery. I'm at the point where every training session on my legs is a 2 week setback, its like a big yoyo, and the strength isn't improving, so I figured maybe its just time and I've done what I could. I'd love to lose more weight first, but when you can't successfully get in at least 4 cardio sessions, you're kidding yourself.

Good Luck with your injury, use the ice and ibuprofen, its what works the best for me, especially that ice. I like to tie it to my knee when i go to bed, so its iced all night while i sleep. You can put a thawed icepack overtop a tupperware or a mug in the freezer so it takes on that rounded shape of your knee to fit just right.

Have you done alot of leg curls and leg extensions in the past?
