I am looking to become a personal trainer/Strength and Conditioning Coach. I just turned 16 and would like to do anything I can do to give myself a head start.

Thanks, Ty

Honestly your too young to do anything right now but expand your knowledge on excercise and nutrition. Wouldn't it be a great thing to know alot of a personal trainer needs to know before you even start studying to be one? Once you hit 18 you can probly do something about your passion.

read alot about exercise and nutrition and heath in general ... all of my clients ask me all the time about mor than just traing ... they want to know how to be heathy through out there life ... also if u can get a job at a gym as just a cleaning person or front desk person then u could start getin in w the trainers and they will let u shadow them and learn ... once you turn 18 u can get certified and go to college for it.

Do you see rich housewives and old farts willing to pay you $50-60 an hour? Because that's the PT target demographic.

If you're like most, you'll need to wait 10 years.

ok he doesnt need to wait ten years ... i know at least 15 trainers under the age of 25 and the are all very good at what they do and have15-20 pluss clients (and yes i fall into this catagory) you just need to learn from more experianced trainers, get some certs, and hopfully work towards a degree.... but the best way is experiance ... so u need to find some good trainers in your area and learn from them by the time your 18 or 19 youll have some cleints of your own and build your buisness... it takes a while to get a good name but once you have it your set for life

You could always order a couple different certs and just get familiar with the material. Legalities can't stop you from being prepared.

www.humankinetics.com offers a great, wide selection of fitness literature, though you can find most of their texts used for a better price.

same boat as you are. I sent emails out to many coaches. Basically, read as much as you can.

Also on a side note, building an appearance can help in the long run. If two guys have the same credentials, and ones a fat man with his love handles hanging out, breathing hard, and the others a ripped dude with shirt busting arms, ur more likely gonna be going with the second guy.

at your age, I would make fitness a part of your lifestyle. Learn, understand as many exercises as you can (the useful ones). Develop a great understanding of your body, do your best to make connections between each exercise and the muscle groups it's effecting... this will give you a headstart towards having better understanding of the materials you will learn in college if you were to pick Exercise science as your major.
