There are too many blatant "I want to be a PT" Or questions regarding certification. I envision this forum to be more of an exchange of exercise routines, programs for special populations, questions for TRAINERS about a certain exercise or circumstance that one of his or her clients have, etc.
A place for already-established trainers to exchange experience and information to better themselves, not every other day a thread about wanting to become certified.
Just what I think it should be like. As there are hardly any other populated personal trainer forums on the web. This forum should get more technical and detailed.
Any other trainers agree with me?
yea ive been tossing the idea around of submitting some articles that could possibly get stickied to help dumb down the repetitive questions, maybe myself and a few others could work together and put some good ones up.
I made a post a week ago saying we needed a mod, no one posted in it

If the forum changed to what you want then the traffic and posts would decrease so much that no converastion could happen at all
If the forum changed to what you want then the traffic and posts would decrease so much that no converastion could happen at all
What?
We need some stickies with the basics to PT. For instance: pros/cons of the common certifications. How to become a PT. pros/con's of independent training or working for the gym, etc.
If you want this forum to be as active as possible and enjoy reading the same threads everyday of "I want to be a PT is this a good cert?" questions then be my guest and answer them all, because myself and some of the other experienced ppl here aren't answering them anymore because we already have, multiple times and if we stop posting, the forum will just get filled up by garbage posts from ppl with either no certification/knowledge of the industry or certified 140 pound dudes who have their clients do barbell curls in the squat rack.

Im sure its the same as any other forum section. it will need some stickies to TRY to answer some of the monotonous questions.
I dont see TOO many people volunteering to write such stickies
in any case, youll never be rid of those same monotonous newby questions and you wouldnt really want to if u want to keep the forum healthy.
-----------
on a side note....where are all the "advanced" discussions that people want instead of the basic questions? I have asked detailed questions about pertinent issues such as rates, packages etc. I have asked personal questions about if we trainers r keeping up with our OWN training. I have seen questions about how to get clients. I have seen a few other good questions and discussions..
It does no good to complain about weak + repetitive threads unless we are putting up the alternative by asking good questions and engaging in though provoking discussion.
I can think of a few good threads about standard PT problems but I dont want to be the one starting every thread....im not trying to monopolize everything, lol.
I started this thread which I thought was an intriguing subject and it basically was totally ignored http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=107688001
Here are 2 subjects off the top of my head which I feel could lead to some good discussion:
1) how do u get clients to adhere to a diet? That should bring a wide variety of discussion IMO.
2) how do the trainers in your gym get along? Do u see them as competitiors or teammates?

I see my coworkers as sources for information. I ask them questions, how and what they train, etc. Why not? I see them as competitors slightly, but mainly as helpful sources because they have more experience than me, and I like talking to other trainers and getting their inpuit.

I will PM a mod to see if we can get a sticky, what post should I tell them to add? or should we start a new one?

Well this was the topic of the week about 4 weeks ago:

Would be cool to see one of the entries as a sticky in this forum.

There are too many blatant "I want to be a PT" Or questions regarding certification.
It seems to me like most of the guys that ask these questions are looking for help SPECIFIC to their situations -
Like one guy will say - "I just got out of the airforce ...."
or "I want to eventually work for a sports team ..."
or "I want a summer job in a gym ..."
or "I just got my degree in exercise science ..."
Nearly every case is different and the question is valid because there are different approaches to each situation -
For example you'd need different credentials if you're eventual goal was Sports and Conditioning -
And different certs if you wanted a job in a health-club, or were just looking to train a few clients on your own on the side -
So I don't really mind it - it's just the kind of REALLY general, nimrod like -
"Hey, I was thinking about becoming a trainer, how do I do it? :-)"
- those get kind of annoying - but most seem better thought out than that -

We need to shut down those threads, I'm sick of this ****.
This forum needs discipline, big-time.
We need stickies and "go-to threads" on various important topics, instead of having to repost and rediscuss the same crap all over again.
We need a thread for rates, one for workout routines, one for sales tactics, one for business model, one for certs, and several others.

I completely agree. This should be concentrated full of great information.
