Ok i've been PT'ing for about 3 months now. I've pretty much became the main trainer in regards to hours i'm doing there (large gym) and i'm starting to take it more upscale/ cut out the BS and bad clients.

The none of the other trainers have a cancellation policy but now I am going to enforce one. The gym owner sees no reason why i shouldn't but its not something she is going to make the others do. its just that i have a higher volume of clients therefore miss out more with cancellations.

secondly, i;m trying to move people towards 10 session packages as the pay as you go gets annoying and people don't see/feel the need for commitment. I only want to train people that are serious.

The standard price for PTing at the gym is $30 for 30mins or $50 for 1hr. I am looking to increase the prices for 35 or 40 for 30mins and $60 for 1hr while still keeping to 10 session packages at $300 and $500 for the moment.

I feel i am the highest educated trainer there with an exercise science/rehab degree and people see me as a likable individual. My clients are seeing results and I can sell myself with no problems and want to target the upper market.

Comments on my proposal?

They use $ in AUS?

At those gyms, you don't get paid what you're worth, but what you negotiate. If you can get more money, do it.

I thought 30 minute sessions were mostly useless and never bothered with them, so in that case, I'd be pushing $40 or $45 if they had to be done or possibly charge the same rate as for an hour. If you really want to push the prepaid session packages, move the hour sessions on a "pay as you go" rate to $75.

haha yeah we got $$

I agree that 30min sessions suck, esp if they turn up right on time so they cant warm up beforehand.

Just need to make myself look better than the others as they will just say "oh i'll go to the other trainers as they are cheaper"

suggestions?

Cheaper in every way...remember to sell value, not price...no one gets a new Mercedes at a Ford price...

Their time with me started on the dot at the prescribed hour. If they wanted to spend it warming-up, that was on them, but I'd make sure to point out that it could infringe on their gains and they did not get extra time...

wattsup Jules -

I wrote an article for PFP magazine appearing next month talking about almost the same thing - how to raise your training rates by packing more perceived value into your sessions -

I got your email buddy and I'll send it over to you - if anyone else wants an advance copy, PM me so I can batch email it -

In terms of clients price shopping on you, I don't think you're going to need to worry about that - If you're booked now, raising your rates moving forward is the natural move -
