Alright well I'm putting a spin on KETO by doing IF as well. I'm on day 2, and I'm still getting used to it. Yesterday I did fasting from 0630-1630 then ate my big meal after then. Today I figured fasting to include the time I'm asleep would allow me to fast longer without making it harder. Not to mention I think it would be more beneficial to continue eating since I workout in the morning. I'm still trying to figure out a schedule to stick to, but I think I have it all figured out so far. I'll post progress pics and such and hopefully update this log bi-weekly.

So I lasted today up till the fasting portion. Doesn't seem all that bad, so far as I'm typing this I'm 3 hours into it. I had plenty of carbs, but we'll see how it turns out. I have a Spin class tomorrow morning, so I'll probably jump right back into ketosis, if the fast somehow doesn't throw me into Ketosis already. I'm going to start TKD, I noticed this morning my workout wasn't as intense as I'd like it to be, not sure if it's because I haven't done that workout in a while or if I'm just trained. I plan on eating an apple with peanut butter smeared on it (cored and sliced). I have 3 jars of Skippy natural peanut butter in my pantry for a while. :D

Well I lasted the night, I think I actually slept better. I got up around 1230 to pee, but I had plenty to drink before I went to bed. Other than that I didn't once get up, which is odd since I usually wake up at 0230 and 0345. This time I woke up as my alarm went off at 0400. I wasn't starving either, I got up, took my NO Xplode while I ate an apple with peanut butter smeared on it. I gotta say it was damn good, went to my Spin class at 0445. We had a full class and plenty of newbies so the instructor decided to have a pretty intense spin class, more so than normal. Holy jesus, I don't think I've ever sweat that much before, but I had plenty of energy. Awesome workout. Well today is day 2, so far so good. Also it seems like I did lean out overnight, I mean I didn't look as puffy, so maybe it's working already. :)

Well I have a week off from work, and I'll be hopefully extending my fasts to see how well I do. I have a PT test on Friday so I won't be going too crazy, but the next week will be interesting. Just wish I didn't have a huge promotion test on Tuesday and a shooting qual on Monday. :(

Well day 3, I can definitely see this being for me. This morning my head hurt a little, but it was tolerable. Started eating around 0845, then stopped at like 1415. Had 3 pretty decent meals. Even with all that food, I feel lean, I don't feel bloated or sluggish at all.

Well I gotta say, I'm definitely loving this "diet". One big noticeable difference is my skin. I have had bad acne, and still suffer from mild acne now. It was never severe, but enough to wreak havoc on my skin. Over the years I've been eating better and everything, and it cleared up, but I had plenty of acne induced scars. Well I wake up, and I notice my skin is noticeably smoother, like the scars are being healed. Not only that, but a lot of the bumps I had are smoothing out and going away. My pores aren't as big, they are significantly smaller. I've read that when you fast your body tends to repair it self rather than create new cells. It takes less energy to repair a cell than to replicate and create a whole new one. That's probably why it helps so much. Not only that, but your body isn't bombarded with having to digest 24/7. I'll admit, I've been eating some crap food, and yet I still feel awesome. I just wanted to see what it would do, albeit I'm going back to eating strictly KETO to see how that effects me any differently. I haven't lost any energy, in fact I've been fasting for the last 2 days for 18 hours each time, and I'm getting used to it. I don't feel hungry, and I feel more alert and focused. I love this stuff. I'll post pics at the end of the week.

Good stuff -- I know that undereating = less sickness, and longer healthier body.
I had a bit of bacne (no facial acne) and chest acne when I was super overweight....once I started eating a ton less, bammo it's goen and know I'll get a random pimple on my thigh or something lol.

Yeah I find it easier to eat this way. I've had bacne as well, and it's been clearing up since I started eating better. I always put coconut oil cream on my skin and it definitely helps. With this way of eating though, it not only clears it but repairs the scars they leave behind. That in itself is worth the diet alone.

Alright, starting to get better. I feel better, leaner and well rested. Regardless if this works any different than any other diet, I'll still do it. The fact that I sleep so damn good every time and that my skin looks a lot better is worth it alone. You're basically still doing the same diet, just eating it at different times. It makes more sense to schedule your eating periods around when you workout, and just "store" the rest for not so strenuous times. Which reminds me I gotta post pics.

Alright another day down, still feeling pretty good, as usual I got a damn good nights rest. Although Today I had to take a nap because I was drained, I think it's because of the sun, and the fact that I woke up at 0600 to wax/shampoo my car. Haha. Ate around 1000, took a nap, woke up around 1300 or so, yeah no really a nap, then took some NO Xplode then worked out. Pretty good workout, I notice that I can't go all out, but if I hold back a little I can still keep up and have plenty of energy. I also sweat a lot more, not sure if that's due to the fact that I was working out midday or because of the fasting. I know people have noted that they sweat a lot more during intermittent fasting, I guess it has a thermogenic effect possibly.

So another day down, finally got my Xtend so hopefully I won't be burning LBM when doing HIIT or cardio. Anyways, I noticed that I sweat a lot more since I've been fasting, my body heats up fast when working out. I hope that's a good thing, I had to open up both windows in my workout room. Anyways, still feeling pretty lean, skin is getting better everyday. Now I just need to tighten it down some and get into a routine again. As of now these are the current supplements I'm taking as well:
Xtend
NO Xplode
Animal Pak
Creakic
Isopure/InStone protein
Coromega Fish Oil
Lean Extreme
I'm getting back into drinking tea, so I'll replace NO Xplode with the more natural black tea. Creakic I'm taking until it runs out, I don't see a point in taking it if I'm trying to lean out, I might take it once I start my "bulking" phase or trying to build muscle again. Isopure, I have 2 tubs of this stuff, so I'm using it for now since I'm out of inStone protein pudding. Coromega is great, I'm going to try and have some on hand all the time. Lean Extreme, not sure how well this is working, but I tend to take this about 2 hours into my fasting period, I take 2 of them. Yeah I should probably take it right as I start my fast, I notice it keeps me up at night, and I usually can't go to sleep till a couple hours while laying in bed. I'll keep you posted.

you should use the creatine because when you're cutting it provides energy support, extra strength and retains muscle....why do you need it when you're bulking? lol.

eh I suppose. I say for bulking because essentially Creatine helps build muscle right? I guess I'll finish the bottle and see how it effects me without it.

Yep another day, I feel great, my workout was pretty good. I've been taking Xtend for about 3 days, and I can notice it working pretty good now. I notice that I feel less burn with certain exercises. I was doing Kenpo X today, and usually my lower legs burn with the movements I do, and this time it was a slight burn, but nothing to hold me back. I noticed the same effect when I was Spinning yesterday. Anyways, yet another deep sleep, I often wake up to my alarm going off. Had my nice big meal, had my usual "deviled eggs" meal, which is boiled eggs, cut in half, stuffed with tuna, smothered with mayo and topped off with crumbled yokes. It's the perfect Keto food, and great when I don't have much time. Had about 6 of these, then a small piece of 72% chocolate, a low carb brownie, and some more Xtend. I also took Creakic, Animal Pak, Lean Extreme and Coromega fish oil. So we'll see how this works. For once while I'm at work this early, I feel awake and focused. Nothing is distracting me, I don't feel like a million things are going on in my head. I'm not even in my fasting time, but I feel so much more focused. I notice when I go to sleep, I have a hard time going to sleep until an hour in, because I'm wide awake and clear headed. It's weird, but calming. :)

hey man, nice job so far!
i've been doing keto for awhile now, just cutting down a little a bit of excess flab :)
i've actually been interested in buying xtend or another bcaa product while doing this. what do you think?
agree with the fact that i don't feel bloated on this diet. i don't have bad farts anymore either! my roommate is happy about that.
anyways, keep it up, and i'll make sure to check back here often.

Xtend is good, it'll prevent you from burning LBM while doing HIIT or cardio. Since I'm cutting I'm doing a lot of cardio type exercises, so I take it. Besides it seems like it helps plenty during the workout. I've only been taking it a few days, so I can't really comment on how it's helping me with recovery and such. BCAAs are always good, I just didn't realize I should be taking them, I'll include it from now on as a staple supplement. Good luck.

Another day down, I notice about an hour or 2 into my fast I get sleepy. I usually take a nap, then wake up feeling better than before. Not sure why exactly this happens, I'm guessing your body is telling you to rest so it can "work it's magic" during the time being. Pretty good. I've been reading a blog about "IF life" and it's giving me a lot of great info. I was doing TKD for a little while, then read an article saying it's pointless to eat anything before a workout, because all your energy is going towards digesting it. So I went back to doing my fasted workouts. I did a fasted workout this morning, doing Core Synergistics (core workouts) and wow it definitely worked me. I haven't done Core Synergistics in a while, but I was definitely working hard. I sweat a lot more during fasting, and today was no different. Ate a pretty nice meal afterward, 5 eggs with tuna, a low carb brownie, all my supps, a small piece of 72% chocolate. After all that, I wanted to up my fat, so I put 2 tablespoons of natural peanut butter on my brownie. Wow that was good, and upped my fat content by 16g. Not bad. Definitely felt good after the workout.

Xtend is good stuff, maybe a little too sweet, but it works for me. It's going to be a staple in my supplements. As far as Keto, I've been doing Keto for quite some time, just wanted to vary it up and do IF. I like Keto, it seems more natural, and although I do have some carb tendencies at times it's usually nothing a simple cheat meal can't cure, then I want to eat Keto again. On a side note, completely my first 24hr fast, it was a long day, but it was worth it I'd say. Woke up ready to eat, which was funny since I'm not the least bit hungry right now.

ya i definitely agree with you on how keto is "natural."
since being on it, no bloating, no gas, no cramps, etc. the only time i get those is eating junk carbs when i load up.

Barely got back to work for a day, and I'm already hating it. Spent a damn near full day working. Anyways, what I was going to post yesterday, not sure why but I felt an uneasy "power surge" through my body Tuesday morning. I had taken some Red Bull the night prior, about a couple hours before bedtime. Not sure if that had anything to do with it, after all they say taking any stimulants while fasting greatly increases it's effect. Well I woke up, jumped out of bed, and felt my heart racing. It was weird and it kinda scared me since it made me feel a bit jittery. Did my workout, and felt great, ate plenty and still had that surge of energy. Well today after I ate, about halfway on my way to work I could feel it again. Not as strong this time, but I could feel my heart rate pick up some, and I felt better overall. Not sure if my Sunday fast (24hrs) raised my metabolism and has this effect, but I didn't feel this before.

So today was pretty interesting. This morning without even thinking about it, I had double the amount of Xtend I usually do (4 scoops with 16 oz of water, I usually take half this amount). I didn't drink NO Xplode, it's has a really salty taste to it at times and it's beginning to make me gag almost, so I stopped taking it. I took a caffeine pill instead, and just drank my Xtend. Waited about half an hour then went into my workout, felt great, ton of energy, the caffeine pill definitely was working. Now the weird part was, when we had mandatory PT, I jumped on the bike for some LISS, but as usually I hate doing low intensity stuff so I figured "eh it was 15 minutes, lets do HIIT". So I did 15 mins of HIIT stuff on the bike, that included "hills" and such. I checked my heartrate here and there, but didn't really pay attention. I noticed I was practically sprinting on the hill parts, and wasn't dying, maybe a side effect of Xtend. Needless to say, when I finally finished, I checked my heart rate once more, and it was at 174! This was amazing considering I usually only used to get that high after going all out and nearly draining myself, but I felt great still and I wasn't even pushing myself as much as I could. Good workouts today.

Well it's been a while, but I'm going to post in here anyways. Well so far so good, I'm amazed how well I'm sticking through with this. I don't even give it a second thought anymore, it's just "Ok eat now, then at this time stop altogether". So far so good, now if I could only get that strict with my diet, least as far as getting the carb content even lower, I'd be set. It was kinda funny, I overheard this guy at the hospital talking to the guy at the front desk. The guy at the desk asked him "did you fast for at least 12-14 hours", and he replied, "I could only get in 10 hours, I couldn't do it". If you don't know, they ask you to fast for that amount of time before you get your blood checked, I had already been IFing for 2 weeks by then, so it was nothing to me. I just kinda smiled when I heard him say that, it's really not that hard.
Anyways, a few days ago I had a cheat day, I ate the entire day on Friday and had plenty of cheat meals. I had a medium pan pizza with breadsticks in the evening on Friday. I was expecting to wake up feeling bigger than usual. Well I woke up, and it looked like I lost 10lbs, I was like holy ****! I wasn't sure why that happened, maybe I just needed that cheat that to rev something up or somehow I lost a ton of water weight, but it didn't make sense at all. Well it could also be attributed to the fact that I have started taking Apple Cider Vinegar. It's been said it's good to use for losing fat, although I use it for it's wide array of health benefits. Well today I've been fasting since 1900 yesterday, so it'll be around 34 hours or so fasting when I'm done.
deadfingers
06-08-2008, 01:53 PM
Well "survived" my 34 hour fast, and wow I had some damn good sleep. You know the kind where you fall asleep then you wake up and you literally jump out of bed. Yeah that kind, oh it was nice. Anyways, I should probably start taking measurements to see if IF is doing anything for my physically, least muscle/fat loss wise. I notice I do look a bit more muscular, or at least more defined, but that may also be because I'm doing P90X+ and they have plenty of muscle building exercises. I've dropped a lot of the cardio I was doing, since I don't have to prepare for a PT test or anything I'll just work on the "lean" routine from P90X/P90X+ that way I can build muscle and lean out faster/better.

Alright did another glorious week of IF with Keto. I had my bloodwork "evaluation". I was a bit worried aobut this since I wanted to know how Keto would effect my cholesterol and blood pressure. Needless to say, it helped. The doctor even said I had pretty good cholesterol. Low LDL, and good HDL. Blood pressure was normal. I'll have to get my test results and post them here. :D

So I've been doing the Warrior Diet, say what you will but I love this style of eating. I feel way better during the day, I need less sleep and I don't have to count calories or macros, just eat whole foods. I lean out more this way it seems. It's still essentially IF, although in the WD they suggest eating fruits/veggies during the day, but they also say that because people can't just jump right into doing water fasting from the start. I've been doing it for a while, so I can do the IF part just fine. It's awesome. :)

So since I've started this log, I've become to realize I'm not really looking to be HYOOGE like most guys on this site. So I'm experimenting to say the least, trying different timing of eating, working out and trying to debunk the myths that are currently out there. With everything in regards to bodybuilding contradicting itself, I've pretty much set out to find out what works for me. Right now I'm trying the Warrior Diet, well loosely, I don't think anyone should strictly follow a diet, unless it works for them 100%. For now I'm going to try it for 30 days, eating at night, consisting of nothing but whole and if possible, solely organic foods. Right now I workout early in the morning, I feel great after an early morning workout and it really revs my day so to speak. I've worked out at night, and well it's pointless if you ask me. Needless to say, I'm looking to gain strength and endurance, not mass. I'm also not taking anything post workout, least not immediately after reading some interesting articles on protein synthesis and PWO nutrition. I'll post my results.

Sure thing, I will note that I have been doing the Warrior Diet now, although I still eat close to Keto most of the time out of habit. Ok I'll detail it as best as I can, if you have any questions let me know, I'm far from a nutrition guru I'm still learning what works and what doesn't.
0400-Wake up, drink 16oz of Xtend (2 scoops), with a Caffeine pill
0420-0500 (this time varies)- Workout, drink Xtend during the workout (2 scoops)
Post workout- Protein shake, I'm trying to include it with milk to up the protein but I'm wary of it since milk is a bit rough on me at times
Fast from 0530-1700 (5pm)
1700-2000: Eat, I'm still learning what to eat and when especially since I have to consume most of my calories at this time. Today I had a footlong sub (meatball) with a protein shake (with milk). Waited 30 minutes, then had a rib eye steak followed by some yogurt with granola (all organic). Now I'm currently drinking yet another protein shake with milk, this time added another scoop of protein.
What I plan on doing next time, is having a fruit smoothie with yogurt and milk with some blueberries/strawberries for the enzymes prior to my real meal. Then probably have eggs with tuna and a ribeye steak. Have some yogurt with granola, then finish off the night with a nice protein shake with milk.
My main problem is that I'm finding it hard to consume that much protein, even if over a 3-4 hour span. I can do it, I just see myself eating a lot of the same meals over and over.
That's pretty much it, then I get up and do it all over again, I workout fasted if you didn't realize it either.

Thanks for writing that up for me.. very interesting indeed. I've just ordered me some Xtend, as this very much intrigues me for my cardio sessions in terms of muscle sparing.
So you basically pack all of your daily intake into the 1700-->2000 ?

Yes, I take it most if not all of my calories during that window. Not sure how long I'll last doing that considering it seems my sleep isn't as sound as it used to be though. We'll see, I'll give it a week, then I'll switch it up.

Well in an effort to make the most out of the last few weeks of my "cut" portion of my diet, I'm going to stick to strickly a few foods and not cheat at all until then. I leave for Tokyo on the 23rd of July, and my birthday is on the 29th so I hope that I'm fairly lean by then. Honestly I don't have much to lose but it's enough to bother me. So rather than try to experiment anymore right now and throwing myself off, I'm going back to IF and eating in the mornings following my workout. I'll mostly eat tuna with eggs (deviled eggs with tuna) and steak, green beans (steamed), yogurt with granola (low fat, high fiber and mostly for proper digestion). I'll probably throw in plenty of my "reeses" peanut butter cups in the Keto recipes section, to up the fats and get plenty of good ole peanut butter in me as well.
That's all I'm going to eat post workout everyday until the 23rd. Probably go back to fasting on Sunday as well. Once I finish this, I'll probably eat in the same window, except eat whole foods (organic, possibly lower carb although not "low carb") with no regard to ratios. Hopefully this'll clean up my diet and rev up my metabolism so I can stay and and muscular most of the time no problem.

you should use the creatine because when you're cutting it provides energy support, extra strength and retains muscle....why do you need it when you're bulking? lol.
Not to mention the extra water retention cushions against joint damage!

So today I decided to eat early in the morning, after my workout. I had pretty much all my calories then and there. Had 10 deviled eggs with tuna, all my vitamins and supps, and a pint of heavy whipping cream with 2 scoops of Muscle Milk. Wow I am definitely feeling it now, I'm pretty drowsy, I have to down some coffee even after taking a caffeine pill just to stay focused. Bleh, I'll stick to eating at night. I never really saw any effects of muscle loss while eating at night anyways, so I'll continue to eat at night, workout in the morning.

Well this week is pretty much blown, going to take a trip to Tokyo, but I'll probably follow IF pretty strictly regardless. My birthday is the following week, so we'll see how that goes. After the next few weeks I'm going to tighten down pretty good, might even do a 3 week period of running intervals (3 days a week) to get my going again. Still waiting on my Animal supplements, bleh. Alright been a while, well I started using solely Animal supplements (Animal Pak/Omega/Cuts/Pump and soon Flex). I'm trying to stick to the warrior diet, and I started working out after work now instead of first thing in the morning. So far so good. I had an amazing workout last night, which I'm still feeling today. My back is pretty sore, in a good way, and my legs and arms are still feeling a bit as well. Pretty much I eat within a 3-4 hour window, I eat fairly clean, but make no regards to calories or what quantities. Although I won't gorge myself on carbs, I'll try to keep the protein and whole foods at the top of the list.
I slept amazingly well last night, woke up a few times, but went back to sleep pretty easily. Didn't feel groggy at all this morning, hopefully this keeps up. Had a hard time trying to stay up later, since I usually went to bed around 2000, this time I extended it to 2300 at the latest, so that I can still get 8 hours of sleep. I usually wake at 0545. It looks like I'm getting leaner, and muscle seems to be more dense. We'll see how this works, but I think it will.

I've been reading up on your log and am glad to see someone stick to it, as most of the IF logs that the search brings up only last for a week.
Last Thursday I managed to convince myself to do a 60 hour fast, was shooting for 72, but it was kind of on a whim, and I didn't plan it that well to give myself that extra push with sleep. Anyways, I really liked the feeling of it, and noticed a lot of the things that you mentioned, skin started to clear up, much better sleep were the big ones.
I've been doing Keto for 2 months with fantastic results, but sometimes I get a bit lax with it, and the fast really helped me get back into it, I started looking around to see if anyone has had any results with IF and Keto, and poof, here I am.
Was just wondering if what kind of fat loss you've been seeing, as well as if the sleep improvements have persisted. I have insomnia, and it would be great to see this work as a cure and part of my diet.

I mostly do IF for the health benefits and ease of use, not so much for the fat loss. When I was doing IF I noticed I leaned out more though, and I just felt better overall. I'm not doing IF right now, I'm doing something different for the next couple of months but I plan on going back to it. I feel it's the only way I'd want to eat.

heya dead, glad to see keto and if worked out for you, just interested to know what you did in regards to carb up days, or i guess the day(s) after, did you go straight back into the morning fast the night after your carb up or were you worried about catabolism? I think, if i understood correctly, you went right into the fast after your cheats but did you ever do so after a lengthier, cleaner carb up?
Btw thanks to anyone who has posted recipies in the keto forum, i must owe a few by now :)
