If there are any personal trainers based in the UK on here please please please PM me if you wouldn't mind answering a few questions.
I'm interested in training, but most info I've found on here is relating to US certifications.
I've read up on a lot of study courses, and know a bit about NRPT's and REPs etc, but now I've got my shortlist of providers I wanted to ask opinions of people with experience in which they think will be most beneficial before I commit.
SO.. yes.. if you're a personal trainer from the UK, and a lovely person that wouldn't mind advising a equally lovely person - PM me! (pretty please... ;) )

the ONLY national recognised qualification is the CYQ, you get this you can work anywhere in the UK, other gyms don't recognise all qualifications. This is the ONLY cert that is subject to a police check, i had to show i have never been involved in any violence against women or children, the disabled people, any sexual harrasment of any sort EVER. They should be available at any college i think. No need for P.M.'s its no secret.

The NSCA qualifications (CSCS and CPT) are becoming available in the UK more and more.
Not too sure on personal training qualifications, but if the strength & conditioning field interests you at all then I would recommend checking out the accreditations for the NSCA and the UKSCA (uk strength & conditioning association).

Sorry, but thats not true. NVQ's are recognised nationally by any gym/fitness centre in the uk as long as the qualification is recognised by REPS. Infact, i will would even say that an NVQ is more desirable than the CYQ as it is earned, assessed and delivered within an employed, real life "work place" situation, whereas most CYQs are "Vocationally Related Qualifications" and are meant to prepare people ready for the work place.
Lets face it, apart from qualifications, employers want experience. An NVQ suggests real life experience and knowledge of the fitness industry. An CYQ is simply the latter ;)

TBH the experience of one person will differ vastly from that of another. The instructors and assessors on all PT courses are often on short term or self employed contracts. This means that the turn over of staff and contractors is high. The coursework and criteria to pass will be very similar regardless of which provider you choose. If you want the best id say premier http://www.premierglobal.co.uk/ but get the cash ready as it its expensive ;)
