I always thought people shrugged more but am looking at peoples journals and I am seeing them deadlift more than they shrug.

So which is it for you and what is the cause?

There is a huge difference between a strict shrug held for a two count at the top and power shrugs done with straps, in a rack, with more than one's deadlift 1RM.

Hence the disparity.

You don't need to hold a shrug for a count of two to get big traps either. If you're saying that you're wrong.

Does it sound like I'm saying that?

when i do shrugs, i mix power shrugs and strict ones. Ill usually do set of 15 strict, throw on some straps and do a sloppy set of 8 then do 2 more strict sets. Both have there place. But do i shrug more than i dl? no

I shrug WAY less than I pull. I have a hard time with just 225 for shrugs, lol.

Power shrugs dude... basically just a clean pull through the most mechanically advantageous RoM

I could shrug more than I DL, but I don't practice it. I usually throw 405lbs on at just above knee height, strap in, rack-pull it, then shrug. I can get a fair amount of reps at this weight, not the slowest of shrugs, but not just yanking the bar around either.

Mine look like the above video, but with less leg drive.

cheap bar eh????

i shrug (power) 'bout 250lbs more than i can DL w/out straps.... however.. i havent DL'd w/straps since i invested in chalk.......

F the 2 count..... grip it and rip it...

i'm pretty much limited @ what i can rack pull for my shrugging capabilities....

my traps are fun to work and love them heavy weights......

I seriously doubt I could shrug 400 or more personally. Power shrug... maybe. That's a very shaky maybe, too.

Never tried to shrug more htan 250 kilos, but I'm pretty sure I could probably out power shrug my DL assuming I can hold the bar.

I shrug a bit more than I can DL. However, I don't use leg drive as in the video. Holding at the top does nothing.

Strict shrug quite a bit less than my DL. But I never do shrugs and dont shrug at top of DL like some do.

I shrugged on wed with shoulders.
135 x 20
225 x 20
315 x 20
405 x 20
495 x 20
585 x 14
675 x 11
765 x 9
855 x 5 x 3 sets.

I do this grouping once a month with shoulders. I train traps one week with shoulders, the next with back. with back, I do my deads and do either hammer strength shrugs or db shrugs.

db shrugs are high, 10 sec pause x 12-15 reps.
