View Full Version : Certifications...
I'm going to be graduating highschool here in about a month or so... and I plan on pursuing a career in the personal training field...What cert should I go for? I see you can be ceritifed by many different places..Where should I start first? I was thinking of going about the ACE certification program and starting that sometime this summer...Or would someone reccomend a different cert for starters?

Ask the gyms you plan on applying to which certification they prefer

Find the cheapest and get certified. Learning from others is the best way to go then study the books and pass the test.

Just get the best (ACSM) and then you wont have to worry about which one you need.

I just got certified by NASM and I don't graduate high school for about 3 months. It's a great cert, but honestly it forces you to learn, it's not easy. It's nationally recognized thats why I got it.

I would definetly go with the ACE cert first. It is a very well known cert and you will also learn a lot while studing. When you get ready for the harder certs the test will be easier.

Gotta agree here. I'd recommend getting your degree in exercise science or a related field. You will learn a lot that will help you become a better personal trainer. Plus you will have many opportunities to work with skilled and knowledgable individuals in the exercise/fitness field.

I 2nd. I am not a trainer, though I was ISSA certified years ago, which was ok but I never worked as a trainer after getting it. I am going to get my ACSM here now soon (during my break after this semester is when I'll likely start since I'll probably take some A&P courses over summer). I am in school to become a physical therapist. There are so many routes that you can take once you get started! That is why I'm goig with ACSM, because they also have physical therapy related courses, which is so awsome!
