I can't decide if I want to enter the Novice or Teen. I just called the sponsor, and he said there were a 'couple' teens. He couldn't tell me exactly how many. I just don't want to get on stage with like one or two other teens. What do yaull think I should do?

can you crossover and do both? Thats what I would do, But if you can't do that I'd say go novice b/c your not gonna be a teen forever and this would show you where you stand against the competition you'll have in years to come. just my thoughts

If you can't do both, do the novice. You're barely a teen :D And do the open.

Wait wait... I thought you could do the open if you had won your class in the junior?

I think in most org. once you move "up" in class, you can't go back. *IE open is higher than novice.

The registration for the comp. is online, but I'll talk to him at the weigh in and see what he says.

i know money can get tight with contest prep but it would seem ashame to not enter the open cause of only 50 bucks after all that hard work and dieting.

By all means, Jordan, cross over and also do the Novice. I've known teens who won their division unopposed, and if they hadn't also done another division, their hollow victory would have brought little satisfaction. In 2004, Shane Giese not only won the teen division at the INBF Wisconsin (unopposed) but also won the men's lightweight division, at age 16!
In your case, as you've never competed before, I would stick to Novice and not try to reach too high. Don't worry about the fee; one of us who will be there will be willing to pay it. In the meantime, follow Tipsta's advice and you might wind up with two first places!

Are you serious? Wow that would be amazing. I would feel like such a bum though, but if you're entirely serious I'll mention it at the weigh in or at the competition.

Sure, I'm serious. I believe that someone should never have to pass up an opportunity just because of lack of funding. I co-sponsored Jeff Melancon to his lightweight win at the Teen Nationals last year because his commitment showed me that he was worth sponsoring. After the show we thanked each other for believing in each other. And I know that an appreciable percentage of the teens there had some sort of sponsorship: relatives, friends, gyms, supplement companies, etc.
Your transformation since last autumn tells me you're just as committed to the sport as Jeff was. And don't feel that you have a need to apologize. I'll PM you so that we can discuss the details.
