Looking to import some premium gym equipment.
Wondering if anyone knows where Hoist and Lamar is manufactured in? I hope not China.

Premium? I think they are more of a mid grade. I wouldn't bet against them being made in China, just about everything is these days.

Aw that sucks.
If you had to choose between the two, which brand would you pick?

I've got a LAMAR rack and really think it is first rate for home equipment.
It is made (sigh) in China.

Yep, pretty much everything is made in China now.
On the Powertec unit ; despite being made in China, it looks like there aren't too many complaints regarding it's sturdiness--at least I'm not aware of any.
Let me know if you know of anything having to do with some unsatisfied Powertec customers.
I may very well get the Ptec power rack because of it's best bang for the buck incentive.
But I think I'll wait till Lamar re-introduces their power rack to the market in May and then will make my decision.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! Lamar will be coming out with a new model power rack you say? Interesting. I always LOVED their racks. It will be very interesting to see what they come out with this year. I know I was very sad when I heard they were going under. They made high quality products. And I am very glad to hear they will be back in action soon. Under the right management their product line could prosper.

Also I do find it hilarious that just like in electronics people make so much fuss over brand names when most of them come from the same manufacturers in asia. Oh well. Brand loyalty is strong over here no matter how false the perceived differences in quality are.

Yeah, a fitness advisor at Fittrax in New Hampshire told me he called his rep and the rep told him Lamar racks either are in production as we're speaking or will soon start, and they're expected to be released in May. That's why I think I may wait until those are back in to make my final decision.
I too really liked their racks and I've searched high and low for any leftovers, but to no avail.

I too find it all pretty comical--I'm fully aware of it, but for some reason I too get suck into this brand name fussing :)

This looks like a reasonable source for Lamar racks and such.

I've never done business with them, but there seems to be some love for the Lamar product (I very much like mine). If I were buying from this source I'd check if the warranty is valid. I understand the new owners are not obligating themselves to honor warranties on equipment made before their purchase. That said, their rep took good care of me on a minor issue.
