That was the worst last play I've ever seen.. They have been doubling curry when they set a ball screen.. I would have put everyone on the baseline and let him beat the guy off the dribble and get a foul

Dude that redheaded cheerleader from Kansas they kept showing.... good god. I seriously fell in love like 10 times during that game.

Oh yeah, game was pretty damn tight huh? lol... if I were Davidson I would have moved the ball down the court THEN called time out and set up a few high screens for Curry or the other white dude who was hot from 3 range today... or even had someone else take it down the floor to set up Curry. Horrible last play call IMO.

Kansas played this to perfection, no question.

I'm not sure he called it. I think he was letting Curry pick, but going for the win instead of overtime was a mistake, in my view. Driving Curry into the key would have at least picked up a foul, which is automatic points for him.

This is the other play I kept mentioning to my roommate. I thought Kansas played very lazily the entire game and it's a testament to their talent level that the game never got out of hand even still. Davidson played their asses off and could have won it, but made a very serious tactical error. It happens. It's easy to second-guess from the couch, but I've been in games like that at the end and everything seems to be moving much faster than it is and sometimes you just don't deliver...Curry was cold all night, star or not, I would not have put the balls in his hands that long at the end, knowing Kansas would be keying on him or I would have used him as a fake and tried to get something down inside, maybe an Alley Oop or something...if it was there, he could have taken it, if not, unload it immediately.

The play I thought they should have done was to have Curry drive the ball into the area around the fall line or closer and either pick up the foul or pick up the (successful) shot and the foul or try to get something very easy going to the basket. I thought going for the win with a trey was a very poor strategy and the guards of Kansas are too big, too athletic and too good for that.

Em, I agree about how Kansas played it.
I don't know why they kept doing a ball screen for Curry cause they were doubling him the entire game which kept him from scoring in the 30's..

Kansas is a better team than what they showed.. hopefully they will play like that against my tarheels :D

I said in my AMP2 Log that it would be UNC vs. Memphis in the finals, with Memphis taking that. I think UNC and KU had the hardest games in the 8 and UCLA and Memphis had almost complete passes, with Texas being nothing more than a formality for Memphis. I didn't see anyone in the 16 or 8 that I thought could beat Memphis, so the only hope for UNC is that Memphis has a severely off night. KU can't beat UNC, unless Lawson and Hansbrough both have ****ty nights. I don't think there is a very good match-up at all for Lawson and if Arthur plays again like he did tonight, it will be a very long night for KU. UCLA had a great run, no question, but they're up against a buzzsaw now (I love that term... :D...in this case, the announcers are right, though).

Calipari, very wisely, has them peaking at exactly the right time. Moreso than any other team (left or otherwise, at least what I saw), they play very solid team ball and are a unit on the floor.

No good matchup for Lawson? KU might not have anybody that is individually as good, but they can match up with him better than probably any other team out there. Chalmers, Collins, and Robinson are all great defensive guards. Not saying they can shut Lawson down, but they have as good of a chance as anybody at containing him.

The main problem I see is that although Kansas has enough big dudes to spread some fouls around on Hansbrough, he is such a good free throw shooter that he can make them pay from the line.

By the way,

ROCK CHALK KU!

If KU plays the next game at all like they played tonight, UNC will win by 20 - 30 points. In case you missed the game, the very excellent Louisville defenders were not fast enough to catch Lawson, who was dribbling at the time. Traps might work, but full court press just wasted a bunch of energy for Louisville (this is one of Pitino's consistent coaching deficiencies also, as he is too reluctant to part with this). Rush will be outworked trying to guard him and Chalmers, Collins and Robinson have no prayer of doing anything but fouling him.

Davidson revealed a lot of deficiencies on the part of KU, such as that if Rush is not on his game all the way, the team suffers. KU did not exactly breeze through Davidson and while they're a good team, they are far from a great one. UNC is not a great team, either, though a very good one (the only great team in the tournament is Memphis). KU also has to get better play from Arthur. I lost count of how many mental errors he made, which will cost him and the team against a better quality opponent if he does it again. He also is no match at all for Hansbrough and neither is Kaun.

KU's best chance is to get Chalmers hot early and let him drill 3s and create while they look for easy transition baskets, if there are any to be had. If they can manage to build up a big enough lead before the inevitable Hansbrough onslaught, they might squeak it out so they can then be decimated by Memphis.

1. Agree that if KU plays like it did against Davidson it will lose handily. But I'm talking about KU playing a good game versus North Carolina playing a good game. Who knows how it will play out, just for the sake of argument I'm assuming both show up and have a decent game.

2. Disagree about Collins, Chalmers, and Robinson not having a chance to stop Lawson. Chalmers and Robinson especially are great defensive guards. Rush has really developed into a great defender, also.

3. Mental errors from Arthur are a given. He is absolute garbage. I laugh when watching the national telecast because the announcers seem to think he is a good player, when everyone who follows basketball in Kansas knows that up to this point he is nothing but a selfish, lazy, ballhog prone to the mental errors you mentioned. I usually hope for foul trouble to get his sorry ass off the court. Maybe he'll develop and mature in the next couple of years, but I don't see it happening yet. He does have some scoring ability, but if he is off he'll continue shooting no doubt. As far as no match for Hansbrough, well Arthur doesn't play defense so that is kind of a moot point.

I disagree about Memphis being the only great team. They have been a great team for about the last 4 games. I would actually rather KU play them than UNC, because of how inconsistent Memphis can be, and their free throw shooting. KU has lots of big bodies and lots of fouls to give, and I have serious doubts about Memphis going 21-26 or whatever from the line again, especially if KU fouls Joey Dorsey instead of Derick Rose, lol.

Even if Kansas played the way they did when acing out Villanova, I don't see it as enough to beat UNC, although I think UNC is a better chance for them than is Memphis. Kaun will need to play like he did against Villanova instead of how he did against Davidson, where he looked pretty ragged. Then again, the entire team looked half-asleep for most of the game, so maybe it was just an off night.

2. Disagree about Collins, Chalmers, and Robinson not having a chance to stop Lawson. Chalmers and Robinson especially are great defensive guards. Rush has really developed into a great defender, also.

All of them struggled all game against Davidson except in the last 13 seconds or so. Lawson will run circles around all of them. I think Rush is the best of all those names, but unless the coach of KU is better than I'm giving him credit for (and what he showed against Davidson), I think KU fatigue in their guard line is going to be a major factor as it was for Louisville.

Arthur is a mess. Jackson can't guard Hansbrough, either, which leaves who? It will have to be either Arthur, Jackson, Kaun or some combination of all 3. Even moreso than Lawson, this presents a huge matchup problem for KU, unless they plan on double-teaming him all night, which probably still won't help.

Memphis is peaking at exactly the right time. They were good enough all season to be a 1 seed and they're hitting on all cylinders right now. Whether they were great before doesn't matter anymore because they're great now. I disagree that KU would be better off vs. them instead of UNC as Memphis has a lot more hot weapons right now. Memphis has not left games up to free throws (except in the case, arguably of Mississippi State) and I doubt they have any intention of starting now. Dorsey, in fact, basically won that game for Memphis, so it's not like he's a weak point or anything. The only way Memphis doesn't take the whole thing is if they have a really bad night.
