I was just curious so as to what drives women into bodybuilding apart from competitions etc.

Thanks

I like the look of the muscular female body, I like the feeling of being strong, and I think the shape accentuates femininity.

I know for me, I've always been thin and in decent shape. When I started working out seriously I just wanted to get in Jessica Alba/Biel shape - feminine and athletic. But I loved lifting weights too much and wanted to challenge myself even more. That's when I learned about figure competition. I loved those girls physiques so much, even without competing I knew I wanted to look like that. Now its purely about the shows, it's addictive.

I started weightlifting to help controll a muscular imbalence I have. I'm a runner and cyclist, I have a slight turn in my left leg and b/c of this I favor this side a little so the muscles on the right have to work harder to compensate for this.

I love feeling strong, I love looking strong, I love being healthy...For me its a lot of a control issue... This is pretty much the only thing at which I am in complete control...Control of what I eat, how I train, how I rest, how I supplement, etc...

Best thing is, I love how I dont look like every other woman! ;)

I personally think that--aside from seeing a resplendent and joyful pregnant woman/nursing woman, perhaps--the obviously muscular woman is the most beautiful aesthetic a woman can possess... can BE. While it is true that I appreciate the human body in all the shapes and sizes it comes in (although obesity certainly is one of unhealth that I would not encourage anyone to strive for), I personally love the look of a strong, natural bodybuilding woman. It shows her dedication; it shows her drive; it shows her intelligence and knowledge of her sport; and it shows that she is not afraid to be the strongest and most independent soul that she can be (considering muscular women are often looked down upon in our anorexic- and breast-implant-obsessed society).

The lean look of dancers is nice, too, and they definitely are beautiful performing their craft, but nothing beats a muscular woman in my mind, hands-down, particularly if she is natural and not "enhanced" in some way. I'm shooting for a Cory Everson-ish look myself, ten years down the road or so. Even if I only ever hit a Marjo Selin I'll be happy. :)

I prefer building muscle to letting flab and cellulite hang around :)

I want to like my body and I want to feel confident when my hubby of 10+ years sees me naked.
