Their plates aren't going to last very long if they keep throwing them around like that............
Are they juicing on testosterone by chance?
That video left me a bit worried. What if they dropped a plate on their toe or something?
My gym is much nicer. No bigger boys chucking stuff about, and no-one really looks as scary as they do.
What are the hats all about though? If they were that cold, wouldn't a nice cardigan work well for them too?

Branch Warren is amazing and MetroFlex is probably the only place in North America you can still train like that.
Good post!

Ok sorry fiend.
I was just joshing. They are big and scary. I do find the big power stuff quite shocking to see as most people do. But it is very impressive.
Sorry I suggested drug use. It wasn't intended in that way, it was more related to the agression and throwing stuff around, which I couldn't quite understand.
These guys undoubtably do bust their asses. That's obvious for anyone to see. Just look at the weights. I doubt they were made of rubber just for show.
I understand maximum output and working to failure, but what gym owner would put up with people throwing expensive equipment around? Just not necessary.
I just didn't think the big shouty aggressive throwing is needed, that's all.
Unless or course you have an image or product to sell.
Steel toe caps? Err....... why not just not throw stuff about?
Again, apologies, I'll put comments across in a less accusatory manner in future.
P.S. My gym is nice. I don't have to worry about people playing dodgeball with dumbells. Ha!

Now that video reminds me of my gym that just closed. The guys weren't quite that BIG but they were just as focused. One of them Squatting 850+ would end up stopping all gym activity while everyone watched. I learned much much the guys at that place.
I suppose it's just my opinion but, dropping plates and having some serious aggressive noise in a gym is part of the atmosphere. For me anyway.
If I want quiet I can go to a library and if I want to listen to elevator music I can hit the 40th floor button.
But, that's just my opinion.

Hi can someone please clear something up for me.
Whenever I see huge guys training hardcore (in these videos) they are hardly ever using a strict form or good ROM - always swinging, cheating etc... Is that just what you do when you get that big to move the heaviest weights possible? I never lift like that, unless it's the very last rep or something.

No, even large bodybuilders will use good form (some do, some don't)

until you have acheived their size and mass, you cant understand. as an example, my traps and upper back are really thick. when I do lat pulldowns I cant get the bar any lower than my eyeballs, no matter the weight. so when I get to them in my back day, pulldowns are 5th on my exercise list currently. I am spent from my rowing movements so a little cheating and partials are what I get out of the movement.
as for the mention of synthetically derived hormone use on this board, it was asked in a manner of humor. the view taken of the board and some of its members suggests that even a hint of AAS use is akin to a racial or religious slur. its called life and we have bigger issues to worry about.

I have this DVD set. I watch portions of it before I go in to workout for motivation. IMO the video is just for that, motivation (and entertainment). Branch never explains what he's doing, so there's very little educational value. And of course, his form is.....not strict. But, he's lifted at a very high level for a long time and found what works for him. Ronnie Coleman filmed a DVD in this same gym. It's a hardcore gym. I wouldn't want to work out there without a fresh tetanus shot.
On the flip side, is a DVD like Victor Martinez. He won the Arnold Classic in 2007 (one of the best BBs). He trains in a nice clean gym, uses very good form, and instructs throughout his video. One of my favorite videos for educational value.

Oh, on a side note, Branch Warren has workout weekends a couple of times a year. You too can pay to workout with Branch and his buddies for a weekend. He has one coming up this June. Ive tried twice now, but I was too late each time befoe the maximum number of guests was reached. I would cherish the time I spent throwing weights around and rupturing tendons with Branch.

The gym I go to, there is this BIG guy. I have talked to him a couple of times.
He does not compete and does not want to. He just likes being big. And his workouts are intense.
One guy asked when a bunch of us where talking if he was natural. The guy said and I quote "**** yeah, I ain't putting **** in my body. My Body is my temple. Why the **** would I want to use substandard material. Give me good food any time!"
Ok, the exclamation point was my idea :>
Now, seeing as he is big and does intense workouts. he does not throw things around. He takes his time. Hell. When I go, he is there when I go, and still there when I leave an hour and a half later.

Handling the weights is a problem. If you want a good workout you've gotta go around and scrounge up weights.
So, yeah... I can understand a guy tossing a few weights around. The heavier you lift the more stuff you gotta gather up.
I work out 24hr and if I was to drop a fully loaded bar of weights after a heavy deadlift they'd probably call the bodybuilding police on me.
Honest, I know I could put more into alot of lifts, but you just can't get rid of those heavy buggers presto in an "uptight gym". You got gingerly lower the weights and make little or no racket. Sometimes the kids will drop some DB onto to rubber matting up by the db racks, but there is no way you could drop some real weight from a loaded olympic bar.
There aren't alot of gyms around anymore that put up with weight dropping/tossing at the end of lifts, unless you go to a powerlifting gym. Those kinds of gyms are not around like they used to be.

Thanks for the Video! I was having a little trouble getting motivated today and now I am ready to go. Unfortunately, I cant lift like that at my powder puff gym. I live in a small town with only one gym. It sucks-mostly soccer moms on the stairmaster and local businessmen/politicians making the rounds. Signs posted EVERYWHERE reminding us that cursing, yelling, dropping weights, etc. is not tolerated. There's even a dress code. There was a small gym that we (the few hardore trainers around) went to where we could train in whatever manner we chose. Needless to say, it has been culture shock training next to Pete the Politicians fat a$$! Anyway, thanks again, I'm going to lift now.

If you're lifting to develop strength you still need the heavy stuff.
I'd say you probably would have to work out at some of the "uptight gyms" in the wee hours. Then dropping a few heavier weights might be tolerated.
I'm not talking about throwing plates around like in the video. I'm talking about turning some serious weight loose after a tough lift.

Different strokes for different folks. Branch Warren is known for his over the top hardcore lifting style.
These guys are lifting in a well known "Hardcore" gym. Their behavior is the norm. You're only going to see what they're doing in that video. The guys reading "Fluffy Mens Guide to Toning the Waistline" will never see the big mean guys throwing the big iron plates. I don't know how you could be embarassed by their technique. Yeah, they're performing some cheat reps, 1/2 reps, etc., who cares. Branch has reached the pinnacle of his bodybuilding career doing what he does best.

Reading all the comments on this video has been very interesting
It is inspirational to see some of the top guys lifting the really heavy weights.
But (and I think this is a big but), these guys have to understand they are role models for the younger guys in the gyms.
I don't care how big you are or how hardcore the gym is, there is absolutely no excuse for throwing weights or just dropping plates from a bar onto the floor.
Yes we all put the heavy weights down hard and sometimes drop them. That can't be helped, and we have all mentioned how the likes of Bally's will throw us all out if we so much as sneeze to loud. I have never thrown a bar at a rack or tossed a plate across a gym.
Maybe seeing actions like that on video is why the kids we complain about in the gym are the way they are.

I get your point. But this is not a mainstream video. Yeah, it might land in the lap of some 16 yr old Noob. In fact, now that I think of it, my 16 yr old son has seen it. But, he hasn't thrown a bar across the family gym we both belong to. And, he hasn't snorted and spit on the floor like Branch does in the video more then once. He has enough sense to know that our gym is a "family gym" and not the extremely hardcore Metroflex.
I love my family gym and use typically accepted gym etiquette. But I would pay good money (I've tried already) to spend some time working out with Branch. Im sure if I could glean just a little bit of his intensity I would be better off for it.

For every sport there is an extreme element, and some of the more extreme personalities are drawn to that type of training/environment.
Fortunately there is a place for people like that to train. I imagine they pay a premium to be able to work out in that kind of environment.
I feel like that sometimes, but for me intensity is quiet and focused, not loud and reckless. It may not look as intense, but I aint there to look intense.

X2! I love their intense attitudes but throwing the plates around shows a lack of respect for the people and place that actually paid for that equiptment. Just because you've paid your monthly dues (Like everyone else I should add) Doesn't give you a free pass to destroy equiptment in the name of intensity!! It's not at 1:36 . . . but is this what you're asking about? Sounds like it.

A gym I used at college had a special bench that looked exacty like this when you were on it. It was basically a long incline bench that angled up from the floor and had a foot plate at the bottom (most guys just took a wide stance with feet off the plate). It was a little strange to use, but I liked it. Just an incline bench but you were kind of standing up rather than sitting down.
Looks a little like this (can't find an actual picture so you get a stick drawing)
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc274/tahusker/Bench.jpg
From the comments I've read, it appears I'm the only one that finds it somewhat amusing. Gratuitously throwing plates on the floor brought to mind "Wayne's World Goes to the Gym".

One thing that video brought to my mind. Maybe I should start looking for a more hardcore gym. The bit I previously mentioned about not lifting heavy as you can at an "uptight gym" has merit. I know I can certainly put alot more weight on the bar, but dropping weights would not be tolerated at the "uptight gym" where I work out.
Well, there is a saying... "It is very difficult to be successful in spite of rather than because of".
I think it might be interesting to own a hardcore gym where rowdy BB take out their testosterone enhanced bodies to the extreme. Let's face it... the weight loss boogie is what sells gym memberships. Guess the "uptight gym" is the future. LOL

Pretty sick,...Kind of funny.
This is clearly for the cameras, most of it anyway... there is no way to get that level of separation and size with that kind of form, and we all know that..

If it's on You Tube I think we can now consider it main stream, I don't think a day goes by that I don't get an email that has a link to something on You Tube.
I just wanted to make the point that if we want respect from the younger members of the gym, then we have to set the example. I don't think this sets a very good example.

I dont care about his form or intensity.. its his chidlish and obviously scripted behavior. They do it to get attention, I dont see it as some kind of internal focus. whos reading "Fluffy Mens Guide to Toning the Waistline"? , ive been powerlifting for years and have trained with that kind of intensity, I just dont have the maturity of a 12 yr old. If he is so masculine and tough he should get in the ring and fight, not take ridiculous amounts of gear and act embarrassingly juvenile. There is nothing manly about what I saw..
but your right, different strokes for different folks.. he can do whatever he pleases, its just my opinion..

Interesting. You've mentioned AAS in two posts even though you said it doesnt matter to you. I think that does bother you.
Why would he get in a ring and fight? His fight is in the weight room. I don't see the relevance.
It seems as though people either hate the video or love it. There is no doubt the video is scripted to be over the top extreme. If you've seen Dorian Yate's Blood and Guts, it's done in a very similar theme. Maybe Branch is trying to one up Dorian, who knows. But he hit the mark on extreme for sure.

Probably not a good training vid for the beginner!
The computer has really changed things. My son asked me to watch a video he found on a similar site (not youtube) of a Humvee racing through the streets of Iraq. The Humvee repeatedly knocked cars and even a bus out of its way as it made its way through the streets. I believe the drivers were concerned that if they stopped they may become an easy target. The video was unnerving. Even more so when pedestrians appeared to be close and possibly hit during the trek.

I don't even find it entertaining. Throwing bars around like that. What an a$$hole. Dropping plates? What, they are too heavy for him?
Sad.
And while I am at it, making a bunch of noise, wrapping his knees, etc., to squat 405 and not even break parallel?
GTFO.

I can just imagine me walking in with them around my neck.
People will look at me and stay out of my way then... What do you think? LOL

Looks a little like this (can't find an actual picture so you get a stick drawing)

probably something very similar to this, not an unusal set up just kinda old school. I remember reading in some older training books, maybe even arnold's that they used to clean the bar and then lean into there incline bench because they had no rack.

If I saw someone doing that once, I would never be able to take them seriously again. What in the hell is he supposed to be doing?
Doing **** that is just stupid serves little to no purpose. I am all for people training with intensity. Acting like a seven year old that needs an ass-whipping does not impress me.

I've been fortunate enough to bump into these guys occasionally. Also you can drop these weights and not damage anything.

I'm not into this video at all, but I'll say there is good training in throwing weights, you use muscles you don't use other wise and in differant ways.
apair of bumper plates would be good, if inside (when no one is in the way, or kids aren't running around).
One of the most impressive things I've seen (on vid) was Kaz actully tossing 180lb beer kegs into a flatbed!!!! WOW!
