Since I started my little journal(http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=7203511) not to many replied, but maybe because I suck at keeping journals even though I have all my workouts in my workout book. ANYWAY
I just want to tell people just how damn good I feel since I started this past December. I feel so damn good I should have a twin because I just about can't contain myself. I mean physically I feel like a teen, damn I feel better now than I did when I was a teen.
Yeah I may not be as big as the majority(YET), but the feeling of feeling GOOD is just unbelievable.
If your new to exercising , lifting, or both hang in there and be consistant. Because it's a HIGH that DRUGS can't touch.
Well I know some may think this post is useless, but I just had to say how freakin good I feel so far. I can't wait till later because I probable feel better.

At 54 years old, I know how you feel ? I just quit my grave shift job working security at a well known Strip casino, taking 2 weeks off before re-joining ?Corporate America? (casinos are the worst employers in America; casino security is the worst job in a casino, and graveyard is the worst shift in the worst job for the worst employers in America).
One week off so far, got back into daylight, running, working out and eating right.
My tight jacket is now loose, my blood pressure dropped 30 points, and I feel better than I have in years!! I can only imagine how I will feel in a few more weeks!!
Keep it up!!

Ain't it a great feeling! :) Thanks for sharing your happiness; it's great to read about other's successes.
I'm with BH; I'm tired of reading "can I do this at my age?" posts (except to write back and say "H*ll, yes! Now go hit the weights!"). Positive success posts should be manditory reading.
And I've learned not to concern myself with replies to my journal. (A)I've heard from some folks that they read but don't always post replies - and I do the same. (B)The act of keeping the online journal makes me accountable for my training and helps me focus on improvement, whether anyone reads it or not.

After working out pretty consistently for 2 years I got real slack over the last 4 months. I have been back in the groove over the last 2 weeks and it feels so good. Every time I leave the gym after a workout I am so stoked. Lifting/working out is the best move I have made in years.

In a lot of ways, bodybuilding IS a drug. We keep going for that pump or that endorphin rush, a lot like a drug addict goes for that high. Only we get to keep our teeth, our cars, our homes, our families.

:) I wish there was a way to convey this "high" that we experience so regularly to all the young people out there and to convince them of our better "high" as opposed to all the other things that seem to be getting kids "high" these days! Seems to be easy to get someone to try a drug that makes them high, but not a physical exertion... Guess you've got to be willing to work for it - maybe that just makes it all the better! Yeah to us!

I'm SOOO with ya' on this one... Just need some clues as to how to get it done!
My state's safety council is, this spring, kicking of an Alive @ 25 program for young drivers, which I will be training to be an instructor for. The program is a defensive driving course specifically targeted to 14-24 y.o. drivers and passengers and their decision making. We will also have a simulator that will simulate drunk driving for them. I'm excited to get going on this and maybe this will be an avenue for me to talk to them about life's "natural" highs... What do you think? It's not a great big start, but it's definitely something I can do in the here and now. Any other ideas?????
I often catch myself walking around in the gym with a big stupid grin on my face :D I just love that high. Nothing can beat that feeling, NOTHING I TELL YA.... :D

That is cool, real cool. Personally I believe it will be a great time to talk about that. I wonder if you can speak to the local Y or maybe the local Middle / High School coaches and / or principle about having a 1 hour discussion on drug and fitness maybe, I'm quickly brain storming here. If that is possible bring up the natural highs and benefits compared to the high's and no benefits from drugs.

I these ideas are awesome and I'd love to tie them in... However, unlike sluge, I can't say that I have the "experience" to back me. I was always a good girl. :( or is it :) ? Anyway... I also come from small town, USA with less than 2000 people with my town being the bigger in the area, so I am working w/ the local schools to get the Alive @ 25 defensive driving program into the schools with grants, so I guess I'll just try to tie it all in the best I can. But, if anyone has any great ideas about a new program to tie in our natural "highs"... I'd LOVE to hear 'em!

And I am in better shape than I have ever been in my life also! I"ve been lighter weight, but with less muscle, and I have been able to lift more but not with this light of weight! I weigh about 20 pounds less and I can lift within about 10 - 15 pounds of the same weight as when I was heavier. 6 more months of improvements until 40!

My wife laughs at me when I get home from the gym. I apparently get very talkative and like to describe in detail each of the exercises I did and how that compared to the previous day.
Isn't it amazing at how just changing your diet and exercise can impact your moods and general disposition? I'm genuinely a happier person these days. So much that even my family has noticed, which is a huge blessing.
So here is a question for ya'all though. How do you handle your rest days?
Do you get frustrated knowing you aren't going to the gym that day?

Agreed. Working out and eating right makes one feel SOOOOooooo Good. I don't know what's better sex or the high I get from exercising, yeah baby!!!!
I handle my rest days very well to be honest. Altough my mind tries to make me feel a little guilty, I quickly flood that out. I don't get frustrated on my rest days at all. NOw you want to see a person madder than a bastard rat, interfer with my workout days, Then I get beyond frustrated.
Rest days are good brother, take advantage of them without any frustration. You'll learn to love them, I do.

I feel like crap. Allergy season is in full swing, and it makes my workout feel like I'm working out with a wet towel over my head. Not to mention the fact that I sweat differently when I'm having a reaction -- a bad kind of sweat that doesn't feel good and refreshing like usual, but rather like I'm about to melt into slag. And it's hard to maintain focus when every set ends in a sneezing fit.
BUT
If I force myself through the workout, at the end enough has changed physiologically, with blood vessels and nasal passages dilating and so forth, that I get to feel normal for a couple hours before the reactions set in again. So in the end it's just more motivation. :D

i too suffer from alergies. Thankfully though this year has not been that bad. Not sure if it's contributed to eating healthy and exercise or just luck. Maybe a little bit of both.
