even though i frequently switch up the exercises that i do, i have been doing a full body, 3x a week for quite some time now. i was thinking about switching to a 3 day split, but i was unsure if i should take a break from lifting before implementing this new routine?! > i did my reg full body lift on Saturday & was going to start the new routine today... or should i take off 4, 5, 6 days & then back to lifting hard/heavy?!

:::curious on your opinions & what has/hasnt worked for people:::

Unless you have soreness somewhere, there's no reason to take a break. If you do have soreness, that'll tell you which body parts not to work today. Go for it!

thanx for the quick response :)
.....
its not like i really have substantial soreness anywhere, but im just taking other things into consideration when it comes to starting this new routine right away: *ive been on antibiotics for a week & a 1/2 now due to a cavity in my wisdom tooth that led to an infection! *im having the tooth pulled tomorrow afternoon & know i'll prob feel crappy for a couple days *not too sure if im "due" for some time off from lifting, etc.

Ah, more to the story ;)

Working out today may help you feel better. But if you're in pain, or generally just not feeling right, take the time off. Needing a time out from the gym usually comes from being burned out, physically or psychologically. Taking a time out due to illness, injury, vacation, etc. is fine. No need to feel guilty or to try and find a justification.

Hope all goes well tomorrow and that you don't feel miserable afterwards.

yea i think thats what it is > i just "dont feel right". its quite possible of course that its from all the nonsense thats going on, not trying to justify it really...
maybe taking 4-5 days or so may be good for me (as i havent taken a break in a while...) & will lead to a stronger start to a new routine! :)

It's ALWAYS a good idea to take a week long break every once in a while, so now is probably a good time.

yep agreed you don't wanna lift if you are pain and on antibotic's

you might be a little groggy for a couple of days

take it easy, get well and hit it hard when you get back :)

I dont think there is anything wrong with some time off. It might actually do you good.
Take some time off, rest, then get back into the gym and hit it hard. Change it up a little too. if you have been doing the same routine for some time now, a change might do you some good.

feel better!

thanx :)
...& thats pretty much what i plan on doing; resting up for a week or so (even tho it may not really be considered "rest" as im sitting here in pain :( ) & then starting over on MON w/ a new routine & hopefully feeling better/refreshed!
