Ok (a few ladies and) gents, I need some help here! I've been on a 40/40/20 diet for about 3 months now and I've decided to go over to the dark side. Keto sounds ridiculous but I'm giving it a shot, and it makes perfect sense but I just can't believe I get to eat delicious whole eggs with cheddar cheese and evoo and still lose fat!
Eventually I really want to focus on building some serious muscle, but for now I'd rather get my bf down because I'd rather have a flat stomach and some muscles than big guns and a gut.

I'm eating 1700 cal
21g of carbs
130g of fat
127g of protein

Using calorie king to track my macros. Sound alright? (6'0", 148lbs)

Its my second day (and a half) and I'm feeling GREAT. Is that normal?! I know I'm not in ketosis yet, but I was expecting some serious drowsiness and possible a migraine by now. I've just noticed I need to drink about twice as much to stay hydrated. I've lost 2lbs already but I'm sure that's water.

My workout today:

Leg extension 90# 3x10
Leg curl 90# 3x10
Leg press 230# 5x5 (ouch!)
Calf press 180 4x10
Lunges 30# 3x10
Kickbacks 3x10

I also did a few ab exercises. +
30 min rebounding
5 min HIIT (finally started getting worn out so I just had to call it quits.)

I used to love doing lower body but now I HATE it and prefer to work my upper body, so I'm not sure what else to add to the workouts. I can't do squats because at even 50# the pressure is too much on my shoulders/back. I'm definitely fatigued right now so maybe it's enough, but it doesn't seem like much.

The hardest part is going to be convincing my mom to buy me some food! She is all over the place with her diet. She tried keto for a DAY, then she was doing the same as me for a while (40/40/20) and now she has it in her head that she'll just eat whatever she wants and quit when she's full. I think that only works for obese people because that's what I've BEEN doing my whole life and only maintained weight, but whatever floats her boat.

She did get me some non reduced-fat cheese...

Oh, right. I saw somewhere that diet coke was good for keto?! What?! Could someone please elaborate. Maybe I misunderstood and that's just what they like to drink, because it doesn't make sense to me, but if it's somehow true then I'm going to be a happy lady.

One more question (haha) I think I'm going to do SKD. I hate the way I feel after eating a lot of carbs, even if it is just for a day or so.
I just read that even if you're doing this, you should still have a whey/maltodextrin shake after lifting.
I've been taking about 30g of Cytocarb II and 36g of whey. Is this good? And if so, is that an ok amount?

Any advice in the meantime would be great!

Hey, welcome to the dark side! haha

Diet Coke is not for Keto, its just that you can get away with drink it. Otherwise, up your water intake from what you were drinking before...try to hit a gallon a day I'd say.

Make sure to get some fiber into the diet, but subtract your Fiber from total carbs, but this will throw off your ratios on Calorie King (I use it too) but thats alright.

Otherwise just keep at it! The first week you will lose some glycogen and water weight, which is a great way to jump start yourself to hang in there for the long haul.

Personally I've lost 15lbs the first month. But Keto works both weighs, whether you want to gain Lean Body Mass...or Burn Fat, or both...

OH, I am. I just had ranch dressing and didn't feel guilty about it!

Update for the food:

M1: 3 eggs + olive oil + cheese + half&half
M2: Designer whey
M3: Turkey + asparagus + smart balance 37% flax + cheese
M4: Salmon + caesar salad w/ ranch instead of caesar uck!
M5: Almond butter + celery

and 2g of CLA + 2g Flaxseed + 2g GLA



Carbs: 29.1g - 9.2g of fiber = 19.9g
Protein: 145g
Fat: 119.9g
Cal: 1737

Really need more fiber, and I wish I would've gotten a little more fat in. We went shopping so tomorrow should be better. Got mayo, cream cheese, gouda, some roast beef, hotdogs (100% beef, no nasty stuff), and some ground beef that isn't 97% lean!

Still feeling really great. I almost WANT to feel like crap so I know something's working. Am I getting too many carbs to start out?

I can't imagine you having much of a gut being 6 foot and weighing 148 lbs! Your macros look good! Sometimes not everybody gets that "crashed" feeling. You may be one of the lucky ones. I wasn't too bad the first week I think. It was the second that got to me a little.

To start out, I think you should go for 20 grams and under. Most people try not to have any carbs the first two days. I just started with 20.

Oh, the diet coke isn't a good idea all the time. Just in moderation, I guess. A lot of people have different opinions, but I'd stay clear. Maybe just have 2 servings a day if you really need to have it.

Well, it's a baby gut. And it used to be a lot bigger, so I'm having trouble adjusting to being thinner because I had such a warped body image for so long, and really still do.
But I have really thin arms and legs, too, so a good amount of my fat is sitting right in it's comfy little spot around my stomach.

20g total or net? Because 5% of my cal from carbs would be 21.2g, so I'm sticking to net carbs under that. But with fiber included, I'm getting over 20g.

And I can go without diet coke. I was up to about a 5 can a day habit and went cold turkey. Now I've only had it 3 or 4 times since (3 months ago.) It's only when I eat out at a restaurant.

It's supposed to be 20g net. You gotta get that fiber in. ha ha. I'm having a hard time with that now.

Cool, than you are on a roll with getting the dite coke out and drinking it rarely.

You are lucky to have skinny arms and legs. My legs are my problem area!! I bet after a month of this you'll be where you want to be. I noticed after just one week, my tummy is starting to go away!!

I'm finally running out of steam!
I woke up at 8 thinking I had to go to work, but I didn't.
So I slept till 11 and still had to draaaaaaaag my butt out of bed.

I thought I'd do 40 min or so of rebounding, I made it to 20 and by the end of it I was in a daze and just barely lifting my heels off the trampoline. Glycogen: depleted. ahah, take that!

I should be in ketosis soon, yeah? I don't have any keto stix or whatever, and I don't plan on getting any. I'm just going to assume everything falls into place and stays in place because I don't plan on doing carb ups.

Plus I would get obsessive over it and eat a container of lard or something if I didn't get the results I wanted. I've heard that if you're properly hydrated they may give wrong results, and I drink anywhere from 100oz to over a gallon of water a day, so, yeah...

Pretty good workout! How do you feel?

You have to be in ketosis by now because of your feeling like you need tons more water. Your symptoms are right on. I've been drinking a gallon or more water and showed in ketosis a couple days ago. I'm 100% positive you are in it!! Happy keto-ing

Oh I was meaning to ask what the SKD is? I heard of TKD and CKD. Is that meaning NO carb-ups?

I have DOMS like no other in my legs/butt from yesterday. But I feel great! I still have energy, I was worried I wouldn't make it through my workout today but I did fine.
My arms feel really weak-- but no more than normal 2 hours after lifting.

I am getting very lightheaded though. More often than usual, and it's lasting longer, too.

I'm getting that, too! ha ha. It was hard getting going on the treadmill. It does feel good, though!

Did you get protein in after your arm workout? Try to eat right after your workout. I postponed after a workout because I had to do some grocery shopping. I felt like I was going to pass out there (got very lightheaded) so ate some hard boiled eggs and felt better.

Yeah, I normally have 36g of whey but I had 18g today because I've been going way over my protein eating all this fat.

But I was getting lightheaded before my workout, so I don't think it had anything to do with it.

And theeen we went out to eat...

10oz hamburger (very lean surprisingly. without the bun of course.)
with boursin cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and saut?ed mushrooms.
+ 2.5 amazing seafood deviled eggs. They're SO good, they make deviled eggs and then put salmon, crab, and shrimp on top. Not all together, but it comes with two of each.

Oh yes, and some diet coke.


So yeah, if that doesn't kick me into keto I don't know what will.
I don't know my macros for today
but I went over everything (except carbs!) because that dinner alone had at least 60-70g of fat and 1000+ cals in it.

I'm supposed to work lower body tomorrow and I know I won't be able too. This slower recovery time SUCKS.



I just peed, and I wasn't really paying attention then BAM! as it was flushing I caught a whiff of it! Ew!
I didn't know what to expect by "smelly pee" but NOW I KNOW!
I've never been so excited about piss before!

I work at the student store at my school, so the job is 97% sitting on your ass surfing the web and 3% ridiculous manual labor type ****.

Luckily for me, today was that 3%. This is my cardio:

It was empty when I started at 9. at least 80 heavy ass cardboard boxes lifted, carried, and ripped apart and 5 hours later... ta da!

I don't know what I'll eat the rest of the day, but I know it won't be much. I envy you guys who get 3000 calories a day. I want to eat more!
I'm thinking of eating more of lower fat things... instead of ONE thing with 15g-20g in it. That way I can eat more but still stay in my macros, yeah? I went crazy shopping and didn't buy anything with under 11g in it, now I feel like I'm hardly eating anything before I reach 120g.



I'm going to hit the gym soon. Probably an hour or so of the elliptical, if i can stand to be on it that long. But it's been a while since I've been on it so I'll mix things up.

K SO I've only lost 1lb....

I don't know whether to be discouraged or excited. I mean, I have not been 147lbs in years. I was stuck between 148-150. So maybe I just had to break through that...

BUT, only one freaking pound!?!? Is that even fat?!

I know it will take longer and be harder for me, because I have less than 10lbs to lose. But I was expecting more...

My workout (5x5):
chest press 70#
sprint 2 min @7.5
shoulder press 15# db
sprint 2 min @7.5
bent-over row 15# db
bent-over side raise 5# db
sprint 1.5 min @7.5
bicep curls 15# db
crunches w/ legs raised
reverse crunches
plank (i just work my abs til they burn-- i don't count reps.)
sprint 1 min @8
chest flies 50#
tricep dips 2x10

Now that I look at it, I really didn't do all that much. But it took me an hour and I was really worn out. The 5x5 tires me more than 3x10-12.


I also upped my calories to 1900. I'm going to see how I do on this for a while, because I'm trying to listen to my body and I was just hungry on 1700. The extra 200 made all the difference as I'm not looking at the clock constantly for the next time to eat again.

so

M4: turkey + cream cheese + broccoli + asparagus + avocado
M5: PWO shake 36g whey + 10g maltodextrin

I'm going to see how I do with that. I really needed something else after lifting, the protein powder alone wasn't enough.

138g fat
140.9g protein
30.3g - 11g fiber =19.3g carbs

at this point, you may have lost a minute amount of fat. but it was mostly water weight. when i carb up i gain 3-4lb's, then go low carb and lose it again in a couple days.

slow recovery sucks but your body will adjust. after about two weeks your body will learn how to use fat efficiently for energy so muscle repair and all that good stuff will go back to normal, or almost normal (like if you were eating carbs).

As long as I don't LOOK underweight, which I don't, I'd say no.

But some others would tend to disagree. I think if I lost 5lbs of fat and added 5lbs of muscle, I'd look great. Which would leave me at the same weight.

AH I've lost 1/4 inch off my hips!

Well I don't think I'm actually measuring my "hips". I'm measuring right under my belly button, because that's the widest area of my stomach annndd I'm happy with my hips. They are bony so I don't think I could lose any fat from there anyway, aha. So, 1/4 from whatever that spot is. My love handles I guess, lol.

YAY.

Oh, and I did 20 min on the elliptical and 10 min walking 5 incline @3.5mph, plus a few minutes of running at 5-7.5mph.

I was reminded of why I only go to the gym at 2pm or at night. Jeez!

The taste in my mouth is awful!

But I am starting to see a difference when I look in the mirror and my mom just said "your waist is so tiny!" so I really couldn't care less what my breath smells like.

WHooaa I've been going a little overboard the past two days.

Went out to eat with friends at qdoba.
I got steak, a FEW black beans, queso, like 2 cups of cheese on top of that, guac, sour cream, and some lettuce.. all in a bowl and ate that **** with a spoon.

The guy making it was pretty stoked...
and it was pretty darn amazing but I can bet it was half my daily intake in cals and fat.

Now I'm just eating a big bowl of 3 kinds of meat, cheese, and mayo.
Ridiculous!
And I can't go to the gym tonight because it closed before I got off work.

Going to the hookah bar tonight, but no delicious humus with pita bread for me. =( I probably won't eat anything anyway, since I think I'm already over my limit for today.

Well I barely survived the hookah bar, but not because of the food. I made it out of there having only eaten 2 french fries.
But they didn't stay in my stomach long...


1 week and 3 days on keto and I have lost SIX pounds.
I was so surprised when I got on the scale...
I was expecting to still be at 147.

So I did finally pump some iron today, but I was so out of it I really don't remember what I did. Upper body, so basically it was the same as what I've previously posted. I've been in la-la land all weekend ever since I met a very... well, mysterious man, can't seem to get my mind on anything else. d'oh.
Still following keto, but I haven't been counting calories or working out as hard as I should be.

But it's spring break! I deserve some time off!

for today, so far:
M1: cheese + beef + asparagus + butter + avocado
M2: 36g whey + 10g cytocarb
M3: tuna + mayo + cheddar
M4: salad + ranch + steak + bleu cheese, + a couple bites of 3-cheese bacon burger with no bun! mmm.

Hey, how about pepperoni and beef jerky's stuff like that. I think there are cheeses out there that don't require being chilled. You could also keep a cooler in a locker or w/ you somewhere w/keto foods, right?

I totally forgot about nuts....

we sell slim jims so I had one of those one day... it was pretty disgusting but it did the job.
The only jerky I could find at the store had carbs? (i only looked one place.) Is that just what you have to buy or is there some without?

Last night I did 25 minutes of... a combo between HIIT and LISS, haha. I just do whatever I feel like on the treadmill. Between running 7mph and walking 3.5 at a 5 incline.

Today I did lower body.
Leg press 200# 4x10
calf press 200# 3x10
leg extension 100# 3x8
leg curl 100# 3x8
inner thigh 90# 3x12
istometric glute squeezes, 3x30 seconds
and some ab work.
+ 40 minutes rebounding/dancing crazy to daft punk, ahaha.

I'm really bloated today! Ugh. I don't know why? I had a coke zero... but I went crazy yesterday and had like 4 diet cokes and didn't get bloated, so I don't know why ONE would hurt me today.

M1: beef + avocado + havarti
M2: 36g whey + 10g cytocarb
M3: eggs + roast beef + olive oil + whipping cream + bleu cheese (mmm.)


I'm going to class so I probably won't eat again for like 5 more hours...

M5: UHHH, chicken with gouda and bacon and olive oil and... almond butter. It was a wonderful concoction but i don't want to know how many calories were in it. I had 480 left in my allowance, so I'm sure I didn't go too far over.

I also had a little 15 walk on the treadmill before I got really bad hunger pains and had to come home and eat the above.

My school likes to give away food, yeah? Mostly fazolis and qdoba...
and usually when they have pizza, it's nasty like dominos.
BUT today they have papa johns, of COURSE. UGH.


i took a bite, just one tiny bite...... but then ate all the toppings off the rest. Then I was thinking, the sauce is really sweet so I probably messed up there. But it wasn't a lot, mostly cheese and pepperoni. I think I'll be ok?


But it was sooo good, omgosh. First time I've wanted to eat carbs since I started..... papa johns?
Papa johns!!?! That's my number one weakness in LIFE, after a tall dark and handsome man.

About the Jerkey -- some have only 1 carb per serving which is fine, but a lot have like up to 8 carbs per 1 oz. serving....I mean, come on!

you could go with like pepperoni bites or small sausage sticks...they taste all right and have no carbs.

I love the quickness of meals on keto.

canned roast beef + bleu cheese + avocado + butter + 1:30 = happy.

i usually pack up 1/2 cup almonds, some cheese sticks and some low carb shakes when i have my long days at school. i just snack on that until i can get home and chow down.

the shakes aren't that great tasting, but they are decent. They're soy protein, which isn't the greatest protein source, but it's better than none on the go. They have 1 gram of carbs. I just ran out, when I get some more, I'll let you know the brand.

Awesome on the 6 lb loss!! I should think about not carbing up, since I have a wedding I need to get into shape for.... my own!! hahah! I've stopped using the scale altogether.... mine is so stupid and inaccurate. If i step on and step off 5 different times in a row, i'll get 5 different readings. Screw it!

Yeah I ate almonds all day yesterday... then came home and binged on what was previously posted, haha. I wanted to get some low carb shakes but my mom bitching about price, even though they were cheaper than the muscle milk RTDs she had been buying?

I feel like I'm losing strength... I keep telling myself "it's all your head, just push harder" while I'm working out... and I can still lift the same weights on everything, but it's just so tiring. I feel like my lifts should be increasing, not remaining constant...
but that's why I'm thinking about eating more and switching to TKD.

BUT I did catch a glimpse of my little tricep muscle in the mirror poking out while I was doing dips. I've never seen it through the fat, haha. It was so cute!
Now I just need my arm to look like that all the time....

I've been eating the same piece of turkey bacon for the past 10 minutes.... which isn't even worth the ONE gram of fat? Right. It's the only thing that didn't make me want to hurl.

I think it's just my nerves... that "mysterious man" i previously mentioned is flying in from ny for the weekend again. His personal assistant/slaveboy keeps calling me AND my friend, saying that "his boss wants to see me tonight....."

Hopefully I can force down some food before I go.. ehhhh.

I've been slacking on my log. oops. I hate being so busy! I haven't had a decent workout in a while because I'm at school from either noon - 10PM or 7AM - 5PM and I'm so tired and hungry when I get home.

Did lower body and abs today though.
Leg extension 100# 3x10
Leg curl 100# 3x10
Leg press 230# 3x10
Calf press 230# 3x10
Back extension w/12# ball x12
and some crunches/reverse crunches and stuff. =p

I ate a huge breakfast:
turkey bacon + asiago + turkey + cream cheese + flax oil + an avocado. 800 calories.
M2 PWO: 36 whey + almond milk + 10g cytocarb


I'm going to eat around 2400 cals on days I lift and 1500-1900 on days I don't. And try to make my weight lifting more intense. But we'll see how that works. I want to build muscle but I'm afraid of gaining ANY fat as I haven't even lost what I have yet.

I think I can see a difference in my pics.. you can see my hip bones, so I obviously lost fat.

Sure thing! I hope it works well... I did it before for a few days, it wasn't planned... I was just really hungry, and ended up eating like 2200 calories for like 3 days, and lost a lot of weight during that and as soon as i lowered them again. It's kinda like a cheat.. but not cheating, haha.

Try squatting! That will get some muscle going. Or deadlifts for legs.

I checked out your progress pictures, I can tell a noticeable difference, your body looks firmer and more tone which means you lost fat...and I can see dem dere abs.

Squats are fantastic - you'll thank yourself, for the afterburn calorie consumption if nothing else.

Deadlifts are intimidating at first, but BB.com has a great video tutorial -- it'll stretch out and strengthen your back.

There's definite progress, but every day is different as far as vascularity so it really does become a mind game ahaha!

im back. i fell off the wagon for way too long.
been back into keto for about 3 weeks and im not getting the results i want and know are possible. i clearly know what im doing so i dont know whats wrong this time. im sure its because i had spent 5 months pre keto building muscle, and now im starting back from scratch. my metabolism is in the ****er. but i still thought id have better progress.
anyway, i gained back most of the weight i had lost. always been off and on working out, but this time i know i have to stick with it for life! before when id lose an inch or so and then gain it back it was no big deal. but i was more fit than id ever been and now im back to my "normal, eat whatever the hell i want and sit on my ass and still maintain" weight, about 155, and i HATE it! i gained back EIGHT of the inches that i worked my BUTT off to lose. and lost most of the lean muscle i gained.


so i think i do better when write here, so here it goes. just got back from the gym and im pooped.

leg press 140# 3x10
squats 50# 3x8
hamstring curl 100# 3x8
lunges 4x5 (my legs were already shaking.)

+ some other glute stuff with the ball and hip extensions. i havent been taking any pwo carbs and i can feel the difference. but im seeing how it works for fat loss.


30 min rebounding earlier when i woke up.. which i havent been doing and i personally think is the best cardio on keto. when i started doing it last time i noticed an quick increase in fat loss.


m1: hot wings + sour cream - 700 cal, 50/60/4 (bigger meal than id normally eat but i wanted to finish the bag... since leaving just 3 wings is pointless to me?)
m2: 2 scoops whey + egg - 300, 8/50/3




m3: burger + cheese + ranch - 300, 24/24/1
m4: spinach salad + cheese + pecans + 4 pieces bacon + evoo = 340, 27/28/6

its a good thing im not as lazy when it comes to working out as i am with updating this thing.

soooo today was GOOD. i increased ALL my weights... quite easily.
and began a love affair with superpump250. and if anyone says its placebo, i say it's still worth it.

15min elliptical warm up.
leg press 200# 3x8 +60lbs! piece of cake!
calves on the leg press machine 200# 3x8 +60lbs! not so much a piece of cake!
squats 70# 3x8 + 20lbs!
hamstring curl 110# 3x8 + 10lbs!
butt blaster! :) 35# 3x8 + 15 lbs!
leg extension 100# 3x8 + 50lbs!

and i went to my first day of bootcamp?? girl kicked my ass.
everything was 3 fast-paced, continuous sets of 14.... no weight.
lunges, ball squats, hip rolls, kick backs, some crazy runners lunge toe tap ive ever seen before, bicycles, whatever you can imagine for an hour... it was a lot more intense than i thought. but i made it!

feelin pretty good.

just cardio today. was scheduled to do upper body but my biceps are unbelievably sore for some reason. i can even extend my left arm enough to stretch it out.

my friend at school asked me if i had lost weight, he hadnt seen me since before winter break. so... noticeable weight loss in just 3 weeks. i refuse to weigh/measure myself until february so.. hopefully ill get a wonderful surprise.

I know exactly what you mean. When I was logging I was actually losing...when I stopped logging, I stopped losing....I need to start as well.
