View Full Version : My weaknesses

So out of all my body parts I feel as though my back is my weakest point.
Before dieting and doing my bulk I was lifting heavy. Front pulldowns I would lift the stack, on T-bar row I could do 7 plates, db rows I could do 125lb db's, bent over rows I could do 225lbs and more. The one exercise I didnt do ( and now regret ) is pull ups. I would do them from time to time but it was the one exercise I was not very good at so I didnt do it very often. If I did them would it really have made that much difference? Or are genetics a big part of having a big back?
Here is a pic of me 2 weeks ago

I have very small bones and putting mass on ( without adding much fat ) is pretty hard.
Just curious what some of you more experienced people have to say about it. I would be curious to try some new exercises in my off season to really get the size up in my back.
Thanks

Yes, chins/pull-ups would help a lot....BUT where are your DEAD LIFTS???!!! ;)
Dead lifts are a great mass builder..for the entire back area, as well as other muscle groups! Build that core bro!!
I guarantee that if you focus on correct dead lifting form and slowly work your way up to some kick ass poundages, your back thickness and mass will take off. Chins are awesom for back development as well...so definitely add those in too! :)
PS: I have small bone structure like you dude...but a big back is possible!!

I do deadlift. For both my back and hammies. I wouldnt do them weekly but I would do them every other week. When going to the gym their are only so many exercises you can fit into your routine. So I guess you are saying deadlifts should be a staple?

I think so, especially if you're looking to pack on the mass and bring up that body part...besides adding to your thickness and strength of the back, they will help you build a strong core (like squats do)...and this will enable you to lift better with all your exercises.

Thanks guys I am looking forward to this. It gives me something to strive for. Hopefully next show I come in bigger. So I am going to add pullups and deadlifts right away to my workouts after this show.
Right now I have to focus on the show I am doing in 3 weeks.

Agreed. Deads, pullups, and bent over rows are the staples to a great back.

The back is a great bodypart once you start to enjoy it. I have really been hitting my back hard for a few years now and what a difference it makes. I found an old shot of me before I started doing wide grip chins and bent over rows...I had zero lats. Now they are visible from the front....nothing spectacular but I am happy with the change. I also started deadlifting a year ago and love it. The added strength it gives me is noticable in many other lifts and it seems like it gets stronger every week. Here is a pic i compared my lats in a while ago....poor ligthing but still...zero lats is zero lats!...lol.
