Hi. I am a female amatuer boxer and I was suggested to ask you guys the same questions that I did at boxing forum.
I have a fight coming up on Saturday, but I am still 3 lbs over. In the past I had no problem making weight, but this time nothing works. I had a weigh in 2 weeks ago, and I was 2 lbs over, so I had to jump rope for 1 hour and half that resulted hurting my bunion and ball of the foot, so I haven't been able to run. I am bicycling but it's not the same. For the past 2 months, I ate 1200 cal and workout 4x a week at the gym and everyday at home. I don't eat sugar, very little carbs, lots of veggie and fruits. For protein, I eat turkey breast, chicken breast, tofu and beans. I can't eat any healthier, but I do eat a lot of veggies like whole head of lettuce for dinner. I wonder if this caused water gain. I am 5' 4" and entering 110. I need to be 112 because this will be a 1/4 final, so they will give us 2 lbs allowance. I am pretty muscular and very little fat left on my body. In the past when I reached 105, my body fat was 9% according to the scale. It might not be accurate, but for sure my body fat was really low. Now my question is that how do I make weight. Some say drink a lot of water, but if I drink a lot of water, shouldn't I get water weight?
This will be my last fight due to the age limit, so I really want to do this, but my weight is not moving at all.
Please help!

if you need to drop the weight...it's bad to say and is awful for your body but don't drink water.

Workout and drink as minimally as possible. For the wreslters I've worked with AND DO NOT DO THIS but they sweated most of it out by going to extreme measures.

If you have one of those Everlast suits made of plastic run and workout in that.

As a woman you retain water more than men. So you need to get rid of water weight, you will need to sweat it out and not add more than is really necessary. The more you lose the more you can drink, so if you have the plastic suit you are going to lose more and don't have to watch your consumption as much. Definitely stop a day and a half before the weigh-in (obviously you don't want to be dehydrated for you fight). This is all very confusing stuff I know.

i wrestle and i dropped 15 pounds in 3 1/2 days and this is what i did.
i drank enough water to stay hydrated but every night i would take 2 water pills which would dehydrate me.
i went into a sauna for 20 mins with two sweatshirts on and jumped rope everyday
then i would have my wrestling practice after that.
i made the weight but i had no energy to actually wrestle and i wrestled like **** luckily i was still able to win though

Thanks! I hear that wreslers know how to do it. I do have a sauna suit and I wore that when i had to make weight 2 weeks ago. I put on a make up remover called Albolene on my body to open up pore and wore suits directly and cover up with sweats. I sweat a lot, but I lost only 2 lbs in 1 hour and half with non stop jumping rope. Yes I was extremely tired and hurt my foot. I don't want to do this again on the day of fighting. But say if I lose 2 lbs water tomorrow, how do I keep that weight until Saturday? limit water? Any suggestions on meals? Thanks for your advice again.

well i wouldnt get down to your actual fighting weight untill friday night because once you get down that far i know it is very hard to stay that low for long or at least it was for.
you can do other things besides jumping rope to keep a sweat going like sit ups and push ups worked good for me the main thing is just keep moving at all times

What is water pill? Where can I get it? 15 lbs in 3 1/2 days! unreal! I only need to lose 3 lbs, but I assume I am smaller than you...
No chance to lose weight from the food, right?

I too have had to lose 15 pounds in 3 1/2 days for wrestling. No food or water intake the day of weigh-ins, no food and 1 liter of water the days before, plus sauna and wrestling practice.

These methods are extreme, you only need to lose 3 pounds of water weight. With you just limit food and water. Not so much that you're dieing, but it should be slightly uncomfortable. Keep in mind most people lose about a pound in their sleep.

You don't have to perform badly just because you're weak from cutting. What you eat and drink after weigh-ins is everything. Try gatorade, a carb-rich food whole grain food like a sandwich or bagel, and some sort of fruit.

Gatorade and fruit both have sugars that will spike your insulin levels quickly, giving you more energy. Of course you don't want your energy to flat line, so the slow-absorbing whole grain food will help you maintain energy throughout the day.
