Negged...for a condescending and pointless post.
Your poor spelling and grammer represents a 16 year old high school drop out rather than a man who had an extra $15,000 for a home gym.
I'm afraid we're going to need to see a few pictures of this "flawless gym" or I call BullSh*t!

That post can be picked apart in so many ways it's laughable.
Sure the more expensive stuff from Elite, Sorinex, etc. is made from heavier gauge steel. That doesn't make it 'better' for the typical home user. Most people won't ever test the limits of a Powertec, Body Solid, or similar cage. You don't need a commercial dump truck to pick up a few 50 lb bags of sand from the local lawn & garden store.
While most pieces of commercial equipment do have more of their joints fully welded, you'll still see plenty of nuts and bolts holding the pieces together. These pieces of equipment also see much more use and abuse in one month than a piece of equipment in a home gym will see in its lifetime. To suggest that you shouldn't get a piece of equipment because you have to assemble yourself is ludicrously stupid, but then so is the entire post.
I'm sure whatever the $15,000 was spent on looks and works quite well, but I'm also sure that your physique doesn't look $15,000 better than it would using a much less expensive setup.

On the Hammer Strenght equipment, there are plenty of nuts and bolts and it's a commercial equipment !

first off i dont wanna sound like im arrogant but trust me i spent 2 years building a flawless gym i know something about this stuff......
heres the ONLY thing u need to know
if you buy something, anything i dont care if its a rack or a seated calf machine.....NEVER get anything u have to assemble urself....
all real equipment comes welded together on a pallet with no assembly required. i made that mistake and let me tell you, anything you buy for your home gym not purchased on Elitefts.com is no more than a gigantic waste of money that wont last u more than 4 years. isnt it worth paying more for something thats made 10000 times better? i dont get why u people puump up powertec. its made of 14 gage steel and plastic.
my rack is made of 7 gage steel from hammerstrength. granted i may have spent 15 grand plus on my gym but honestly, if ur gunna skimp on a powerrack u have no business working out at home

negged, a rare one
your condescending tone from someone unknown and unproven, with no pics, is not required here
not everyone has $3k to spend on a power rack for a home gym
I have traveled and visited multiple equipment manufacturers of commercial equipment, pricing out a REAL gym, but I still understand that MOST people here do not have the means to spend more than a few grand TOTAL on en entire home gym, including treadmill and strength equipment
why do people hype powertec when it is a soso gym at best?
because it is the best MOST of them can afford and is better than the Dicks/Oshmans/Sports Authority crap at a similar price point
Sure... you need to spend 15000 on a home gym for it to be decent. I've spent one percent of what you supposedly did and can probably get the same level of workout. I may not be as possible strong as you are, but it still get my ass handed to me during my workouts. I'm not recommending that most people go the route that I did, but a workout is a workout, weight is weight.

hey i didnt mean to come off as condescending, u all seem like nice guys.
bro seriously though i highly doubt u get the same workout as me. i wish i could agree with ur point because i realize the point u are trying to make "you work out as hard as you can and its all you need" but lets be honest....it would take you no joke 3 hours to work out your lower back the conventional method in the time it takes me to do it with my reverse hyper.....
you can do leg curls for 2 hours and you wont get the same effect id get using my glute ham for 30 seconds.
u can do tbar rows in the corner until the cows come home, you wont isolate ur back and lats the way i do with the chest supported row.....
you can do pull ups all day it wont be the same as using a lat tower with a 300lb weightstack and a dozen attachments
im not trying to sound like a you know what here, but i just hate it when people try to make a point by "standing up for the average joe" and convincing himself its right.....dude perfect analogy, i drive an acura tl and im quite happy with it, but you sure as hell dont see me going up to my buddy with the bentley and telling him mine is just as good as yours. hed laugh at me
again im not being antagonistic im just proving a point based on fact, not tugging on people's heartstrings.
but yes the rest of you are all right, i learned an important lesson once from a very good powerlifter. he said dont pay attention to machines, just lift weights!
glad to be here guys
I'm glad you are here too - douche bag. Powertec rules!

03-12-2008, 01:11 PM
Funny thing... I used to have a few pieces of Hammer Strength equipment in my home gym and now I have some Powertec. :)
I don't deny that machines can have a part in any home gym but for many people, basic equipment is all that they need to see results. Some of us simply have different amounts of resources to spend on equipment and have to make do. It's alright to talk about how great ones gym is, but to say you are the end all of end all knowledge about gyms leads itself to sound arrogant.

Right, you are so big and strong! have you looked at the equipment Arnold used to work out with?! Not to say that he got that body mostly from the weights, but... The thing is that, you have to use what you got, and if you work at it, anyone could have a better body than your 15k gym! Did you ever ask yourself, how bodybuilders from third world countries, build their bodies with?? If you search on here, there was this Nigerian that was working out with axles and concrete-wheels and he had a better body than most of people here! Just shows that it doesn`t matter how much you spend on the damn equipment, but if you use it or not!!!

Well you come across as an arrogant jackass to be honest. 2 years? Big deal. I've been in the business for 6 years and there are guys here who have been in the home equipment area longer than that.
heres the ONLY thing u need to know
if you buy something, anything i dont care if its a rack or a seated calf machine.....NEVER get anything u have to assemble urself....
all real equipment comes welded together on a pallet with no assembly required.
So that rules out most pieces of equipment. Unless you have patio doors leading directly to your gym, or are prepared to knock out a wall, your idea is completely unrealistic. I've had trouble getting some welded equipment into freight elevators. And you want to put this into residential homes, with 3 foot doorways?
i made that mistake and let me tell you, anything you buy for your home gym not purchased on Elitefts.com is no more than a gigantic waste of money that wont last u more than 4 years.
In other words this is just a sales pitch for your website? 4 years? Are you just making that up? I've heard a lot of random numbers thrown around, where do you get 4 from? My residentially designed power rack, lat pulldown, calf raise, and bench have survived more than 4 years and are in perfect working condition. I know because I check them with carpenter levels and squares regularly.
dont get why u people puump up powertec. its made of 14 gage steel and plastic.
Um, no it isn't. It's 12 gauge steel and I'm not sure what you're looking at, but I see no plastic components of the Powertec Power rack. Unless you are making reference to the rubber slip on covers for the chin up bar, which have absolutely nothing to do with the unit's construction.
my rack is made of 7 gage steel from hammerstrength. granted i may have spent 15 grand plus on my gym but honestly, if ur gunna skimp on a powerrack u have no business working out at home
hahaha, are you joking? I've spent $10k on my home gym and most of my equipment is residential equipment. Do you expect people to believe that you can fully outfit a home gym with the equipment you're making reference to, including Hammer Strength which is one of the most expensive brands on the market?, for $15k? Who are you kidding?

yea its all good no hard feelings.
im actually five ten and about 200 and i wont lie im not as cut as i used to be im still solid no flab but i used to have one of those beach bodies now im more in it for power. my total jumped from like 1100 to 1450 since i started working out at home last year.
Why don't you go to the exercise or powerlifting section of this site and dazzle them with your claims.
cant believe how antagonistic u guys are but im still not apologizing, and i understand the point you make about arnold and the guys who train with logs and boulders and get jacked but are you seriously going to tell me that you're getting the same training experience as me with no reverse hyper and no glute ham and no specialty bars, bands, chains, prowler etc? if so its not worth me being here, as i bet my life 90 percent of you dont even know what westside is....
If you're not getting results with simple barbells and dumbbells, then you won't get results with the fanciest equipment money can buy. I have yet to see the exception to this rule.
im actually used to it though, people being jealous and thinking im a dick when all i did was state a fact, its a fact that my gym was over 15 grand, heres a question for you, if i was to say that my gym cost 150 dollars and i drove a pinto would you think i was a nice guy then??? in reality im a pretty nice guy in person but see people look at pretty much every aspect of my life and get defensive right away and assume im a dick, im not gunna lie, i live in the richest part of the new york, i come from money, i was a lawyer at 24 years old and had my own firm by 27, i drive a 7 series and my girlfriend looks like an underwear model....i bet you guys really hate me now and are probly gunna talk trash about me when im again just stating facts....wooo hooo lol by the way none of that is a lie, even though ull probably say it is to make ur measly lives seem better just by convincing urselves that people like me dont exist....
Buddy, don't worry, nobody is jealous of you. This is the internet and there have been many trolls long before you who have claimed just about everything you did.
its cool though im not looking to make cyber friends, and i like being the bad guy lol
So a highly successful laywer, who makes all this money, with a great girlfriend... and you have nothing better to do than come onto an internet website and try to be "the bad guy"? I don't know many lawyers who put sentences together as poorly as you do.

and again not to sound like an arrogant @ss but, someone said something before about me being an authority on this stuff....as arrogant as it sounds, based on the fact that i actually trained at westside over a dozen times, ive been in over 2 dozen meets and my total is probably better than any 2 people on here combined, id say yea, that pretty much gives me authority staus here and when i say something anything, ud be damned sure ur gunna benefit from listening. again, this is all fact not opinion,
What is your name? I'm sure Westside gets a lot of lawyers at their gym so you'll probably be familiar to them. Give me your name so I can confirm who you are and what you claim is true. If you are the real deal, you'll have no problem doing this. blue rain that is a chest supported row, its similar to a tbar row but does not put stress on ur back....
yea im sorry if i came off as arrogant but i take that stuff seriously....
its not that much, the rack was 3grand, the lat was 2, reverse hyper 1500, glute ham was 1000 and chest supported row was 1000, bench was 500, 435 hyper was 400, 90 hyper was 300, the bars came to about 2000 total, so yea it came to about 17 total, the real money was on the plates and dummbells....
Well I wish I had that kind of money but I don't so that's why i have a powertec rack, but hey if I hit the Powerball tonight i'll sure go check that out.

If you don't have to prove yourself to anyone then why are you telling us you trained at Westside and have all kinds of experience behind you?
I'm sure guys like Ed Coan, Dr. Fred Hatfield, Paul Anderson, and Bill Kazmaier never used all these specialize equipment you talk about that is so necessary but that didn't seem to stop them from being some of the greatest strength athletes ever.
