What are the best carbs for loading 3 days before contest? I have tried loading with wheat bread, strawberry preserves, and a few high carb bars, but they all leave me gaseous. Does anyone else have this problem? I would hate to enter my first contest leaving clouds behind me. ( OH man I had a great laugh the other day, I asked my mom to pick me up some Preparation- H for my comp, she brought me home the suppositories.)

I use sweet potatos for carb loading. White rice and rice cakes can work pretty well too.

try to stay away from the bars closer to the comp as they are usually higher in sodium and can cause water retention. i would also recomend sweet potatoes but cook them in a microwave not boiled to eliminate watter in them ( made that mistake before ) rice cakes are nice to add something lite to the diet other than heavy potatoes all the time you should find the potatoes work well they usually do for most! note that grapefruit are good as well due to a mild diaretic affect!

Great. I can do white rice. Being chinese, we have a lot of it around the house. Choking down sweet potatoes isn't going to be fun, never even eat them during the holidays.
Do you think it was the bread that made me bloat?
Thanks guys.

Do I keep protein up on high carb days? 1gm per lbs? I weigh 154lbs I take in about 240gms on a low carb day and about 100gms of carbs 35gms of fat ( natural peanut butter and almonds mostly) Some say to let the carbs do the work some say to leave the protein high, but then I feel I am consuming way to many calories.

I generally drop the protein down to 0.6g per pound on my carb up days. I'm eat 8 meals a day(every 2 hours), and only half of the meals contain a protein source.
