Best bang for the buck home gym:

-power rack (with chin-up bar)
-adjustable incline/flat bench
-300 lb olympic weight set

This setup can be bought new for between 500 and 600 US dollars, depending on where you live. If you want to spend a little more, grab:

-a pair of spinlock dumbell bars (and some plates to load them)
-an EZ-curl bar (olympic or standard)

I agree with MiloMan. I bought all my stuff used. When you get your bench get a good one. I have been through three benchs until I finnaly got a really good one. Maybe in the long run I would have saved money getting a good one at the beginning.

My husband found a professional Olympic bench, bar, plates and other assessories at a local St. Vincent dePaul's over the holidays. You might try looking at the larger charity thrift stores and in their back lot. Usually you will find alot of former overpriced dreck but if you look closely, some treasure too.

The whole set was a steal at $70 and He bought it at half price. I have no idea how old it is and it had been repainted a few times. Very solid and the bench is adjustable for incline. Has a detachable leg extension, preacher's chair, gladiator's chair and at one time may have been set up for cable pulldowns (missing this pillar) However, my husband is a blacksmith and can make one with all the fittings.

I priced some other used ones, online, that looked close to what we got and was amazed at the savings.
