View Full Version : post pregnancy training
My wife is made keen to get back into training after the birth of our child I know there is a certain time period before you should start training, but does anyone know of a particular program designed for post pregnancy to gentle get her back into training.
It depends on if she was working out during and before her pregnancy. My doctor had said to wait at least 4 weeks but as usual I didn't listen to him and was back in a week and a half. At my 6 week checkup he laughed and was fine with it...I jumped back into my old routine except I did abs carefully for a while.
Mainly it depends on how she's feeling a healing up, others may feel I started back too soon but it sure made me feel a zillion times better, also I don't know if she's b/feeling but it really increased my supply. Sorry if that's TMI for some.

As long as she's got the green light from her doctor she can do anything she wants to. Of course she needs to listen to her body and not overdo it at first. I had a c-section 2 months ago, and I'm back full force now. Mostly she'll need positive encouragement from you. I've found that I'm more out of shape now than I've ever been, and I figure it's going to take a while to get back where I like to be. Patience is a virtue I tend not to have.

I actually went a bought one of those exercise ball things (for core stability) I found a book which actually covers training with the ball during and after birth. She's started on that and seems to be doing alright the only problem now is the babies head has engaged for a couple of weeks now and is giving her a bit of pain but we are told that its just the ligaments stretching and its all normal. The book is call 'Strong to the Core' writen by Lisa Westlake, she is the Senior Physiotherapist in the Road Trauma Intensive Care Unit at the Prince Alfred Hospital in Melbourne (Australia) and I must admit I found it to be very good myself
